do people respect stylus or pitchfork more? im curious because i think there needs to be a website with unbiased opinions that dont favor indie/pop etc...stylus always had fairly good writers and my website is even better, i will give you guys the link once its finally up...should be something you willl want to check every day!

Posted by brian | October 31, 2007 12:56 PM

LCD as number 1 is a great choice

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2007 12:57 PM

do you guys think pitchfork will pick a random #1 album...last year they picked the knife which they only ranked an 8.6... I think they just like being "cool" and do not rate based on what the best albums actually are....any predictions for pitchfork #1?

Posted by brian | October 31, 2007 1:03 PM

by the way i agree lcd is an amazing album..but its too hard to say its the best...id rather listen to Beirut - Flying Club Cup any day of the week over LCD...so does that mean its better?

Posted by brian | October 31, 2007 1:06 PM

I find that LCD Soundsystem most unlistenable. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I think it's awful.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2007 1:17 PM

i do not think its awful, there is a mood and time for every album.....my website will replace stylus as the source where music fans can come...but post about their own reflections and opinions on the albums. think of like a combination between metacritic and pitchfork? would you guys be interested?

Publishing year end lists in October is stupid. No matter the reason, so no need to even discuss.

If they said best albums for the first 10 months of 2007, then ok.

Posted by Sebastian | October 31, 2007 1:24 PM

sebastian, i agree with you

but nothing potentially epic is coming out between now and the end of the year..ghostface? wu tang? amy winhouse? could be decent albums at best....what releases are you anticipating with top 20 potential ?

Posted by brian | October 31, 2007 1:27 PM

Well, isn't "this is our last day" a pretty good reason to post that list.

That being said, its a pretty good list, except for the notable exclusions of "Widow City", "Strawberry Jam" (Panda but no AC?), and "Beyond".

Sorry to see Stylus go.

brian, you are annoying

I predict P-fork picks Person Pitch as #1. Which means it will be #2 because my guess for their #1 is always #2. And #1 will be someting mildly headscratching because it's P-fork. Reading back I'm kinda stoked on that first sentence.

Posted by SM | October 31, 2007 2:25 PM

#1 - souljaboytellem.com

always go for the irony factor, duh

Posted by gt | October 31, 2007 2:29 PM

I think Of Montreal will be number 1. And AC is surely missing in that list.

Posted by Eduardo | October 31, 2007 2:59 PM

Hooray, Miranda Lambert.

But yeah, no more lists until December. These guys just taped theirs to the door after they'd locked up.

Posted by J | October 31, 2007 3:05 PM

no jens? no deerhunter? wtf?

Posted by joey | October 31, 2007 3:07 PM

Individual ratings for albums only play a part in where an album will land on the list at the end of the year. (For the most part) the rating is that of the reviewer, where the end of the year list is comprised of the top favorite (read favorite, not best) albums of the publication as a whole.

Kanye West was not one of the top ten album of this year. Why is everyone all over this guys jock? This by far is his 3rd best album out of all of his releases.

Posted by Greg | October 31, 2007 3:12 PM

Kanye put out 3 albums this year?!

R.I.P. Stylus

Posted by Su@Worlds-Fair | October 31, 2007 5:28 PM

these albums will be on pitchfork top ten:
jens,
strawberry jam,
person pitch (in top 3),
mia kala,
kanye west,
in rainbows,
devendra?,
i dont know.

Posted by miranda | October 31, 2007 6:04 PM

Pitchfork will go Cryptograms. Think about it. Last year they were all over The Knife. They definitely played a significant role in "breaking" them, at least within indie rock circles. This year they did the same for Deerhunter. Someone should dig through the news archives for the past year and find out how times Deerhunter/Atlas Sound makes an appearance.

The only other albums I could see taking it are Person Pitch and Strawberry Jam. Which is upsetting, because of these three, I only sorta like PP.

Posted by feedbacker | October 31, 2007 6:50 PM

2 words: Britney Spears

Pitchfork album of the year.

ha

PS. Pretty good list but they are missing Strawberry Jam and Cryptograms.

Posted by Joe | October 31, 2007 7:12 PM

oh yeah. i forgot about cryptograms. For me personally though, the winner is Strawberry Jam.

devendra was ranked like a 6 on pitchfork..why would that be top 10..mirando i do like ur taste tho!

Posted by indie are e | November 1, 2007 3:44 PM

yeah i realized they didnt give it that glowing of a review. for some reason i thought they had given it a nine something.

Posted by miranda | November 1, 2007 11:59 PM

They'll pick the obvious good albums (if they're not retarded or assholes, which I sometimes wonder about), which was UGK, Justice, MIA, Kanye, Arcade Fire, Amy Winehouse, etc.

And then a bunch of awful awful shit. expect LCD and Spoon and the last underwhelming Bright Eyes and tons of unimportant disposable twee or faux-dance bullshit. Maybe a random black/doom metal album for the sake of their cool. Oh and Animal Collective, LOLZ.

I agree with Brian to the degree that the writing was excellent, but the reviews were often wrong (Yes, I said wrong. That last High on Fire album was boring, yet it got high marks)

Although, there's never any reason to read Pitchfork except for interviews with your favorite band. Everything else on that site is lacking.

Someone bomb the colleges, please.
