Someone from The Hook got in touch to let me know that they're not going out just like that. There will be one final party at the closing venue on October 27th, and strangely - it will be a Halloween party called "The Death of Astroland" - "a laying rest of the Coney Island we all once knew". So basically the final party at the Red Hook venue will be in honor of the closing of Astroland in Coney Island. I guess, why not? More details below....

The Hook

THE DEATH OF ASTROLAND...a laying rest of the Coney Island we all once knew...

There is going to be free beer and free food.

There is going to be a ball pit (Yes, like the kind they have in Chuck E. Cheese but for adults).

There is going to be free skee ball.

There is going to be a highstriker (For those of you who don't know what a highstriker is, it's that stupid game where you hit a thing with a hammer and the ball flies up and hits the bell).

There is going to be a paintball alley (alla "SHOOT THE FREEK"). --i misspelled freak on purpose.

There is going to be pin the beard on the fat lady.

There will be live bands, a burlesque show, and live DJ music ALL NIGHT LONG.

And much, much more!

The Hook

Astroland and Thor Equities just reached a deal to keep the amusement park open one more year. So I guess there goes the Hook's excuse for a party.

Screw that, they've got a ball pit. Who needs an excuse when you've got a ball pit.

It was just announced today that Astroland will now be open next year. Does that officially make this show ironic?

Maybe Astroland should hold a "Death of The Hook" party?

I was at Coney Island this weekend. Like 90% of it has been demolished already, so I don't know how "open" it will really be.

Turns out the party is just at The Hook, but the actual party is being thrown by some group called 94, and honestly, Astroland has been dead since last year....they've been slowly tearing the thing down and it's super depressing...

it's like some weird corporate apocalypse. there are signs everywhere that say, "coney island project" and no more go-carts. drinking giant beers and riding the go-carts was so much fun :-(

Goddammit, I love The Hook. Saw some super bands (ie, Flaming Fire, Eagle*Seagull, Rev. Glasseye) and made out a lot there. If not for the fact that it's a stupid hike from the train it should be the hottest spot in BK. Do you have to go to the skeeviest hoods in town now to see good bands where developers aren't already licking their chops?
