Dax Riggs = Deadboy & The Elephentmen minus the girl on drums.

Dax's solo project started out under the name T-Daks & His White Plastic Soul. He performed a few times live under that name, mostly doing acoustic shows.

After the breakup of Deadboy & The Elephantmen in 2007, Dax has stated that he would release the future albums under his own name. The first album under his solo name We Sing of Only Blood or Love was released in August 2007. [Wikipedia]

He's been out on tour with Queens of the Stone Age, and now he's headlining his own shows - that includes tonight at Maxwell's, and two shows in a few days at Mercury Lounge. What else?

i have such a crush on tessie brunette...i once emailed her, ya know...

Posted by andy | October 1, 2007 4:47 PM

that Wiki entry is bullshit - no mention of the chick except her last name, which, according to my understanding, should only be done after one has stated the full name.

... and those are some nice boobies.

Raul Midon's CD release show at Highline Ballroom will be one of the best shows of this year, incredibly talented solo musician.

these comments further confirm my theory that women no longer care about music. it's mostly guys at shows ect. i think it has to do with the fact that artists are no longer sex symbols like they were back in the day with the exception of acts like the strokes.

"these comments further confirm my theory that women no longer care about music."

HOW do they confirm that theory? Maybe women haven't responded to the sexual comments about the drummer because, for example, they find it beneath them.

"it's mostly guys at shows"

If that is a valid observation, there may be a reason for it other than women supposedly not caring about music.

"ect."

Please, tell us the other phenomena you've noticed that indicate women no longer care about music.

"i think it has to do with the fact that artists are no longer sex symbols like they were back in the day with the exception of acts like the strokes."

So on the whole, women need to be attracted to a musician to enjoy his (her?) music but men don't. OINK OINK!

As someone who occasionally checks out the mainstream indie/hipster/"flavor of the month" acts that are promoted on this site, but who spends a great deal of time checking out less hyped to death and more DIY acts all over the indie, punk and hardcore spectrum, I can say that the hipster shows are definitely more male dominated. It may have to do with the egalitarian nature of the less commercial scenes that females feel more comfortable participating in them, or perhaps we just on average have better taste? I certainly don't think it's a matter of there not being enough tasty man meat on display at the Pitchfork approved indie sausage fests. Women are just as capable of appreciating music sans overt sex appeal as men are. More so! Shocking but true!

I thought you hipster liked not having chicks at your shows so you could snort coke off each other's cocks on the dance floor without the judgmental stares of future date rape victims?

I weep for humanity. Does the dude behind Brooklyn Vegan find the misogynistic comments that so many of his posts elicit in at all disturbing? Most likely not considering the fact that he advertises porn on his home page. It's truly bizarre how the indie rock scene especially in New York has degenerated into the same type of frat boy mentality you would expect more from 13 year old fans of KORN or Lim Bizkit.

Hey 10/2,11:03, that made me chuckle. Pretty funny. Hey 10/2, 11:16, lighten up on the melodrama. Weep for humanity b/c of Darfur, not BV. Hey 10/2, 12:12, I appreciate your passionate and the OINK was funny. However, I doubt you are a hetero male. Could be wrong tho. Hey 10/1, 3:54, uncouth, but I gotta agree.
Also, responding to this post by saying something that mimics it (e.g., hey 12:36, f-off), is predictable and lame. Please be creative in lashing out at me. I will be watching and grading you. Wow me.

"Does the dude behind Brooklyn Vegan find the misogynistic comments that so many of his posts elicit in at all disturbing? Most likely not considering the fact that he advertises porn on his home page."

question: how can you be so sure that BV is a "dude," you fucking misogynistic hypocrite??

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 12:40 PM

Porn is not synonymous with misogyny.

Posted by debya | October 2, 2007 12:45 PM

Where are these porn advertisements and why can't I see them?!

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 12:45 PM

"Porn is not synonymous with misogyny."

It is? What about gay porn?

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 12:49 PM

12:40 - because his myspace profile says he's a 0'0" male Libra in a relationship. And I use the word dude in a non gender specific way. And also, this hand looks awfully masculine:

FYI Tessie is no longer in the band. She is very sweet and very beautiful....but damn people need to stop talking about her "rack". Dax is an amazing musician and these shows are not too be missed.

"'Porn is not synonymous with misogyny.'

It is? What about gay porn?"

You should spend less time jerking off and more time with a dictionary. This poster is on your side, silly.

No, it is not synonymous with misogyny, but it is of course, for the most part misogynistic.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 1:35 PM

Brooklyn Vegan's name is Dave and I have heard his voice on his Sirius show — it sounds masculine.

I believe the porn "advertisements" that Anon. Oct. 2 11:16 AM refers to are the porn sites (currently numbering three) that BV has included in the blogroll along the right side of the main page of this site.
