It's sold out, so my guess is "yes"

"The band is a psychedelic amalgamation of Neil Young and Buffalo Springfield, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, the Velvet Underground, and Black Sabbath."

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 5:54 PM

That Jay Reatard Cobra melting trick blew my mind. Where did he learn to do that? That's some tribal shit right there.

anyone else hear about the national at highline ballroom monday night??

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 9:16 PM

The National killed tonight. And they did a duet with St. Vincent on Green Gloves that sounded really good.

Terminal 5 is alright - much better than Roselands. It's huge though and the stage seems really, really big.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 11:15 PM

how AWESOME WAS THAT FUK BALOON????

I stil have smile!

Posted by Taco Time for Mom & Dad | October 11, 2007 11:43 PM

Terminal 5 was cool..looked like there was a leak in the roof..

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 11:47 PM

Not to beat a dead horse, but Reatard is pretty fucking unstoppable at this point

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 12:44 AM

The National kicked ass.

Terminal 5 is still under construction it seemed like.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 12:49 AM

terminal 5 is easily the best of the big midtown venues. it didnt even seem that big. the decor was lacking though. just a sea of newly painted drywall.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 12:53 AM

I can't believe this was designed by the guys who did the Bowery Ballroom. The sightlines are horrendous on all three floors for anyone who doesn't show up at least an hour before the headliners. Sound is too loud on the 3rd floor and you can't hear anything on the 2nd floor middle bar area. Wanted to love the National so much but the superlarge venue took so much away. Course, I saw David Yow's "'tight n' shiny'" Tuesday and PJ Harvey last night so anything afterwards is going to be a letdown.

Posted by j | October 12, 2007 1:10 AM

i would have liked to have seen !!! but wont support any band that cunt robin taylor works with.

Posted by lakes | October 12, 2007 2:18 AM

Terminal 5 is a good venue, the sound was solid on the main floor, the 2nd and 3rd floors were only worth it if you were there an hour before and grabbed a rail seat, but the main floor was open enough. Much, much better than Roseland ever was/is.

Posted by anon | October 12, 2007 3:02 AM

As i suspected from being at Terminal 5 for a few things before it was Terminal 5, the place is a terrible venue for concerts. Don't believe these jackasses above saying how cool it was and great it was and so much better than roseland. These are dummies. The sound is not good at all. Sightlines are awful unless you are right up front or you get there so early to get by the rails on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Granted Roseland is not a great place either, the sound is much better there and at least if you are in the back you can see something. They really did not do much to change the place from before. You can put a silk hat on a pig but it's still a pig. Terminal 5 is gonna make you cry that all the bands you love who can and should play at Webster wont be there anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 4:15 AM

I thought Terminal 5 was overall pretty nice. It was a hike to get there (just keep walking towards the Hudson, you'll land at Terminal 5 just before you fall in the river), and the place smelled of fresh paint, but it seemed like a really big bowery ballroom.

I wasn't up on the Balconies, but I'm sure the sightlines sucked if you were more than a row or two back. But who cares? The Balcony is usually the place where the assholes who want to chat during the set go anyway.

The decor... well... there wasn't much. I'm sure in the coming weeks they'll be adding some little flourishes. Right now it's pretty bare bones.

There are three bars, which is nice... not much of a wait for booze. The beer is overpriced, as I would have expected. Not too bad though. $6 domestic/$7 import. The merch table is cute... although getting out of that place sucked. They put up barricades on the sidewalks as to herd you out like cattle.

Last, but certainly not least, the sound. Well, it wasn't great. But this was the first show there. It was a little muddy and the bass was overpowering, but not unlistenable. Although, I'm no audiophile. My guess is, is that it will improve with time. Not a horrible start though.

Terminal 5 is definitely a nice alternative to Roseland... Hammerstein is probably the best still.

oh, and the National and St. Vincent were great, as always.

!!! love the sexy ugly. i only wish i could dance like that. sooooooooooooooooooooo fun.

Yeah who gives a shit if you cant see unless you are the 1% who makes it up in the front. Yeah no one really cares to go to a show to actually see as well as hear the band.
And sorry non audiophile, sound doesnt get better over time. This is what it sounds like and it aint good

Yeah kids Terminal 5 is awesome. You cant see the band and the sound is muddy. Rocked the shit seems full of crap.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 9:29 AM

well at least I'm not a pompous asshole like Anon 9:29.

Posted by rocked the shit | October 12, 2007 9:38 AM

What's wrong with you people? I was on the floor in the middle and I am an audiofile and the sound, perhaps a hair too loud, was pretty damn good. I'm not a big Bowery presents supporter, but there is no denying it's a better venue than Roselands.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 10:04 AM

When the National played 5 nights at Bowery, that was honestly the peak for me...Terminal 5 is a symbol for the expanding popularity of indie rock...Why do you think bands love playing at the Bowery Ballroom? the crowd is more intimate and for a band like the National, it is exactly what you need. For anyone who saw the National for the first time last night, I suggest you see them in a tighter knit venue with better acoustics. Berringer just wasn't that into it last night, he was just going through the motions.

You can't be pompous when you are a shit fer brains
Believe me you were never in jeopardy of being called pompous.

First of all its ROSELAND. And umm no, just wrong. The statement you make above shows clearly you are not an audiophile.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 10:26 AM

Yoda: I've seen them eight times (including last night). Berringer was just as into it last night as he was when they opened for AF, at the Bowery or at any of the other shows I've seen them at. You're just too cool for the National now because you're not the only person who likes them anymore. Better find something more obscure - stat.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 10:29 AM

The Qui show rocked. The guy who took that picture btw also got a face full of David Yow's crotch. He grabbed the guy by the back of the head and buried his face in his crotch for a minute or 2. Now was that picture worth it?

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 10:29 AM

Hey 10:26. You're extremely mature. Sorry that I put an "S" at the end of the name. I assure you I was going to shows when you still had a curfew. You're just another a-hole who refuses to allow for differences of opinion.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 10:32 AM

"Berringer just wasn't that into it last night, he was just going through the motions."

Maybe because they're now racking up their 4th stop in some towns since Boxer came out. Most places were lucky to get them once on any of the previous records.

I strongly doubt it's because he had any qualms about the fucking venue.

Hahaha, Idiot

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 11:04 AM

Why are people starting shit on these comment boards? Do you want to "throw down" or something?

It's a lot easier to be a complete dick when you're typing anonymously on a blog. The same asshole who's been calling everyone an idiot on this thread, is really tough. Really tough. I hope he feels pretty good about himself, too.

anyone go to the division day show at union hall? how were they?

Posted by andy | October 12, 2007 12:05 PM

!!! were great last night. Such a fun show.

Posted by A | October 12, 2007 12:51 PM

it was depressing watching !!!. the crowd wasn't that into it and neither were they. intensify wasn't intense. i should have let their performance at coachella be my last !!! show, instead, i ruined their perfect record with last night's horrific show.

i think they're just tired of touring.

Posted by Anonymous | October 12, 2007 3:28 PM

well digitalism was great!

conversely, maybe the National "is a symbol for the expanding popularity of indie rock"
