Where is Cass McCombs from? His 4AD page says "Cass McCombs was born in the Bronx, Haiti, and Tahiti in 1977." Wikipedia says, "McCombs was born in Concord, California." and that "He has spent most of his life traveling the United States, moving from one city to the next, settling at one point in Baltimore." On his own MySpace page he simply claims "here and there". He was living in NYC on 9/11/01 - an experience he has cited as an influence on his music. Today (Nov 12, 2007) the eccentric singer-songwriter comes back to NYC for at least one night - to headline Bowery Ballroom. Ariel Pink opens, and is on tour with him. All dates below....

Went to the Bowery Ballroom last night. It was really, really great. First Ariel Pink played and was backed up Cass McCombs; then CM played and was backed up by AP. It was very refreshing to see two musicians humbly backing each other up, rather than trying to outdo each other.

Yeah, I read they were calling it "The Solidarity Tour". I really wanted to see this show but am not in town. Cass' show at the Mercury Lounge in June with Arboretum behind him was truly fantastic...and he was playing new material from the record that hadn't been released yet and it didn't matter nobody knew those songs.
Any more comments from attendants from Bowery?
