Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ Bowery Ballroom

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah returned to Bowery Ballroom in NYC last night (Nov 13, 2007). Decent show - I've feel like (I'm tired today and...) I've seen them play most of the same material too many times to say much more. I didn't see either of the openers because I was over at Mercury Lounge checking out Deer Tick - also good. Would have liked to have seen Battles, Phosphorescent, or even Jay-Z too, but oh well.

Bao Nguyen took some pictures. More of them below....

CYHSY play Studio B in Brooklyn tonight (Nov 14), and then a few more places.

They are better on record than live; that said, they were better last night than any of the other times I've seen them. Still, the show was way too short.

what time did cyhsy come on stage? i'm seeing them tonight at studio b. also were the openers worth catching?

they played "Motor Away" by Guided By Voices, which was pretty sweet.

CYHSY started at 10:45. Set ended at 11:43. They came back out and played two songs. Opening bands were kind of a bore.

They came on at 10:40 and played till midnight I think. Missed the openers.

Hmm...so the openers are not worth seeing then?

they played a quiet, great new song (IE not on either record) as the last song in the encore.

it's a melodica. it's like a harmonica with keys, and you can get one from between 50-100$.

that is a melodica. AKA a hooter. They should have played And We Danced!

They may not be the most exciting live act but DAMN they are pretty fucking excellent musicians. Their lead guitarist consistently melts my mind.

Anyone who saw their NYE show knows that they don't give a damn about the people who come to see their shows. It was a disgrace.

Oh good christ, what happened to that man's head?

Any chance someone out there knows the setlist for Mazarin/Black Stoltzfus from either night? Though apparently no one was there to see them...

The show at Studio B was actually a damn good show. True, I have not seen CYHSY before so I cannot attest as to whether or not they are playing the same stuff over and over, nonetheless there was a good vibe in the crowd and the small space that Studio B is provided for a very intimate experience. And if you pair a good setlist from CYHSY with two amazing and I mean AMAZING opening bands, you have a great show that for only $15 cannot be beat. Delta Spirit was fantastic, the lead singers voice is one of the most amazing voices I have heard in a while. I am inclined to say that I almost liked them more than CYHSY themselves! These guys have the potential to be really big and they should be headlining very soon.
