Donda West, RIP (mother of Kanye)

The mother of hip-hop mogul Kanye West died following a "cosmetic procedure" in Los Angeles this weekend, her publicist told CNN Monday.Video of Donda West below....But Patricia Green, the publicist for Dr. Donda West, did not give details about the procedure or exactly what the cause of death was. West died Saturday at the age of 58, confirmed a representative of West's record label, Island Def Jam, who added that "the family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief."
Donda West was a major influence on her son's life, as the music producer-singer-songwriter has often acknowledged. Watch Donda West talk about "Raising Kanye"
She was the inspiration for the song, "Hey Mama," on Kanye West's 2005 album "Late Registration." Among the lyrics: "Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you ... I appreciate what you allowed for me. I just want you to be proud of me."
Earlier this year, she released a book she co-authored called "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From the Mother of a Hip-Hop Superstar." [CNN]

Kanye may the grace and peace of God be with you. There is nothing anyone can say or do at this time of grief except tell you that Jesus loves you and God does evrything for a reason. Call on the Lord and He will help you through this.

Katee, I'd love to see you have the guts to go up to someone who's mother or father just died and say to them, "God bless their soul, but you're a douche bag." Your comment clearly shows who exactly is the douche bag. What was the point is writing such a thing here? Really classy....

what was the procedure that she died from? seems so sad if she just died from some kind of vanity project.

This is not a time to throw names at Kanye. This is a time to pray that he finds Jesus intimately because He is the only one that can bring him through such a time as this. There is LOVE through Christ Jesus! Forgiveness, redemption, hope, peace, joy and Eternal Life. Let us pray for one another and not tear down one another.

Top Hip-Hop Songs Honoring Moms
Donda West, mother of outspoken hip-hop auteur Kanye West, passed away over the weekend from complications during cosmetic surgery. With big-name MCs like Jay-Z offering up condolences we figured today would be a good day to honor the greatest dedications to mothers in hip-hop.

Vanity runs deep in the family apparently. Save the sympathy for those that deserve it.

Ummmmm...WHAT? I'm sure non-Jesus believing folks out there find good ways to deal with their grief. Let's leave God off BV - for Christ's sake.
And does anyone really think Kanye is reading BV right now? Send your sympathy messages another route.
Posted by anon | November 12, 2007 3:07 PM
Wow, definitely not the normal BV readers today...

^Michelle, learn how to use the caps lock key.
Sandra, how would you feel is Fischerspooner's mom passed away?
Also, I don't see why she wouldn't deserve sympathy just because of the type of surgory she was undergoing. I didnt realize that that automatically made her a bad person not worth feeling bad about.
Also, everyone send your condolences elsewhere. If you feel bad fine, but Kayne doesnt read this blog so theres no need to tell us that your best wishes go out to him.
Oh yeah, and I support keeping Jesus off of BV as well.
Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2007 5:28 PM
Why is Jesus such a big deal for people to have to say keep him off BV. I mean you guys have the right to say you dont believe in him anywhere, but other dont have the right to say they do. Nobody is forcing to believe in God or Jesus, but shouldn't have the right say they do. anyway...
My thoughts go out to Kanye.

In all genuineness, I am extremely surprised how many hip-hop fans read BV. I'm shocked. I just picture skinny-pants hipsters all the time. Interesting. ----- As for Jesus, Anon-7:08 makes a huge and flawed logical leap. I think that most of us believe in Jesus in a religious sense, but the invocation of him on a message board under a Kanye West post seems a bit contrived (read the second post again). Moreover, the injection of religion into message boards inevitably devolves into hurt feelings and pointless debate.

Kanye might read BV. How else would he know about PB&J and Daft Punk?
Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2007 7:25 PM
kanye keep your head up too the sky! Don't forget that even in hard struggles, pains, heartaches, and lost that God is with you. I know what it is like to lose apart of yourself. I lost both my mother and twin sister on the same day, but I made it through to encourage you. Keep "SHINNING"!

THIS IS A SAD TIME FOR THE WEST FAMILY AND THEIR LOVE ONES. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THEM DURING THEIR TRANSITION AND AFTER FOR HEALING.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO FEEL YOU MAY USE THIS SITE TO BASH K.WEST. YOU COULD BE IN THIS PLACE JUST AS EASY. ACTUALLY, YOU MIGHT WANT TO WATCH IT. GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY. KRAMA IS ALWAYS WATCHING, AND, YOU SHOULD BE SHAME OF YOURSELF AND ASK THE CREATOR FOR FORGIVENESS.
PRAYERS ARE WITH THE WEST FAMILY.

anon 7:43, no one is bashing kayne. you are stupid. stop sending out condolences on this message board because you want others to think that you care.

I just got it. The "god be with you" messages are sarcastic. Nice one. It took me a while to catch on. I thought they were for real for a minute there...that last one, though, gave it away.

Kanye West, his family and friends would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words that have come in from across the country since the death of his mother, Dr. Donda West … In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dr. West’s name to the Kanye West Foundation/Loop Dreams Teacher Training Institute
