GOGOL BORDELLO playing New Years, DEVOTCHKA sign to ANTI, VELVET REVOLVER, tour dates
I never go to a show on New Years Eve, but all the options this year might finally change that. The latest worthwhile choice: Gogol Bordello at Terminal 5. Then again, tickets are $45, and I'm not sure if that includes anything besides a performace by GB.
Not necessarily worthwhile, but Velvet Revolver is playing Hammerstein Ballroom that night too (we New Yorkers are more forgiving than Japan). Tickets are like $100! Gogol Bordello suddenly looks like a bargain.
And speaking of gypsies, Devotchka signed to ANTI. Their new album will be released in March 2008, and now they're label-mates with Man Man. All tour dates below....

Is it weird that the Velvet Revolver Mezz seats are $50 more expensive than the floors?

maybe the free coke is in the mezzanine

It's because you can hear less in the Mezzanine.

GOGOL BORDELLO! Is there a better band for NYE?

not at the moment

Mehanata last NYE wasn't that great even with Eugene spinning. The new location will never have the same atmosphere as the old one.
I also never go to shows on NYE, and normally I would make an exception for Gogol Bordello, but not if they are playing Terminal 5. I would not want to be so close to Times Square on NYE especially at a venue that is far from the subway. Good luck finding a cab.
Why can't they play Warsaw again?

The NYE show is probably going to be the first Gogol Bordello in three years that will not sell out. Plenty of tickets left. I agree with the person above, I will not want to be near Midtown on New Years Eve. Plus it's at Terminal 5. Yuck.
