Jens Lekman @ Triple Rock, Minneapolis - Nov 3, 2007 (CRED)
Jens Lekman

Jens Lekman to Pitchfork: Well, I really have to ask. First of all, thanks so much for the review. I was really very flattered about that. You know, I heard something about the "8.0 club" a long time ago. Oh You're So Silent got 8.6. Everyone kept telling me, "Oh, you're in the 8.0 club now," which was kind of intriguing to me because it literally means that all these festivals and all these distributors want to have your record. It sort of puts wheels in motion.

And then when I got this review, I was like, "9.0? I wonder what that means." The day after, my frequent flyer card was updated from ivory to silver. I just wanted to check if you had something to do with that. I was thinking, "Oh, the 9.0 club" [laughs].

Tune in to KEXP (part of the NPR Music network) right now - Jens is about to perform live in their studio. Jens recently played a bunch of NYC shows, and he has a few more North American tour dates left. For more Jens, check out the BrooklynVegan Mike interview from 2006.

I don't mean to blast this guy... he seems nice enough.... but he's totally overrated. I mean, c'mon.... just put on any Belle & Sebastian record before you play any of this dude's mediocre ripoffs!

I downloaded the album from Emusic because of the rave review Pitchfork gave it. Maybe it's a "creeper", but it still hasn't hit me yet?

I think Jens is great, and different from Belle & Sebastian. I wasn't crazy about the new album at first, but it really grew on me. As my favorites often do.

That's right Jens, it's official - you suck, welcome to the club.

The 8.0 club and the 9.0 club? This is a joke right? I just threw up in my mouth.

@ 11:48

I've had the album on my mp3 player for a while. After several listens I'm still waiting "to get it" as well. I like the music, but the lyrics and vocals seem to undo it for me.

HAHAH "The Opposite of Hallelujah" just came on player as I'm typing this. ITS A SIGN...JENS IS WATCHING :(

check "Oh You're So Silent" first. It's a better introduction to jens in my opinion.

postcard to nina is one of the best narratives of the year. it hit me right off, as the rest of the album took a few more tries.

maybe being in sweden helps.

i know he was joking about the whole 8.0, 9.0 club but the fact he even referenced it is beyond lame.

"i know he was joking about the whole 8.0, 9.0 club but the fact he even referenced it is beyond lame."

Why is it lame? He was kidding while at the same time letting Pitchfork know how they changed his life in tangible ways. He may have also thought it was off the record.

Yeah, Jens Lekman totally isn't allowed to joke around. He should remain elite at all times. Serious business, his life should be. All serious business. He probably wishes his pfork review was a piss-drinking monkey, right?
