Kevin DuBrow (Quiet Riot) & Casey Calvert (HH) RIP
DOWNLOAD: Quiet Riot - Bang Your Head (Metal Health) (MP3)
Kevin DuBrrow, Sweden Rock Festival, June 2007

Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday.Sad news that follows yesterday's sad music news that Casey Calvert of Hawthorne Heights passed away in his sleep. He was 26 (exactly half of Kevin's age).
DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner's Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
"I can't even find the words to say," Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow." [Yahoo]

Be respectful people.
I met Kevin five years ago and he and I spoke for twenty minutes. he was very nice and gracious and was excited to be touring with a number of other bands. kevin was healthy and happy. He brought many people happiness and great memories and fun.
For those of you who love music- and loved Kevin-ignore these idiots.
Warmest and best wishes to Frankie and all family and friends!

I don't see any comments as being wrong. Let's get real here--no one was perfect and neither was Kevin Dubrow. If someone wants to say something other than some typical "he was a great guy" that EVERYBODY says after someone passes away then so be it. Folks are just expressing how they really feel.
Posted by Uncle Elmer | November 27, 2007 8:23 AM
I notice some sarcasm in many of the comments. These were artists, musicians, and generally good people. A good friend of mine, Ronnie, was Quiet Riot's manager for years, and having met Kevin, I can tell you that he was a decent human being, who enjoyed entertaining and enjoyed having a good time. As a mid 40's hard rocker, I was entertained by Quiet Riot, and introduced them at a show here in the Hartford area some 20 years ago. They were really talented musicians. We should be respectful. Who cares if he wore wigs? That was part of the persona, but an irrelevant part of the man and the musician.
As for Mr. Calvert, I know little about the band, other than having heard a few songs, which I found fun and original. Losing any musician is a terrible thing, but at such a young age, with such future promise, it moreso devastating.
RIP, gentlemen, and thank you for entertainment.

I usually read the comments on BV to get a laugh or to see just how petty people are. Why does everything have to be right or wrong. Who wants to hear your opinion. Show some respect to two musician who lost their lives tragically. it doesnt matter if you liked them or not. show some respect and shut the fuck up.

I just think it's pathetic how some people here are posting to tell others to "get a life" , or to poke fun at the deceased. Your families must be real proud of you (I'm being sarcastic here). RIP Kevin - he was a wonderfully nice HUMAN BEING (try to remember we are from the same species, people), and talented musician. And whether you knew him or not, it is very sad news. Thoughts and prayers go out to Kevin's family and friends. I hope that when the haters who posted here have a tragedy in their lives, they won't experience the same BS they bestow on others. God Bless us all!

.........not POKING fun at the deceased,,,,,poking fun at the non-established people who have done nothing with themselves in life and there claim of accomplishment of life is to broadcast there senseless interaction with someone who was famous. GET A FUCKING LIFE....its that simple...get over it! besides it brings me great joy to get on your nerves. Hey, have a great day!!!!
Posted by Get A life | November 28, 2007 12:20 AM
Out of all the comments on this post, hardly any were poking fun at the two who passed away. I thought, aside from a little bit of sarcasm in maybe two comments, most were respectful.
To all of you claiming that no one has respect for the deceased here, let me ask, did you actually read the comments? Come on.
And you don't have to type in all caps to get your point across. It's really just obnoxious.
oh and danielle: REGUARDLESS and ARROGENT? Bitch, you just making up your own spellings now.

It is sad how people can make fun of someone who died that they do not even know. I would like to see how they feel when one of their family members dies and someone does the same. Yes, talking about someones hair or crap like that is disrespectful. Would you like someone talking about your mom after her death with, "sarcasm", and then answer, why not? If you said you did not mind then your just a piece of s*it lier.

The life of Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow, who died at age 52 over the weekend in Las Vegas, had not been on a completely even keel after he'd broken up this month with his girlfriend of more than seven years, Las Vegas television personality and KXPT-FM radio DJ Lark Williams, according to friends saddened Monday by the news of his death.
Nevertheless, "his mood the last couple of months was stable," said former Deep Purple bassist and singer Glenn Hughes, who said he had communicated with DuBrow several times a week since they had become reacquainted after a 2001 performance by Hughes in Las Vegas. "He did not sound agitated or paranoid or anything at all -- he was just normal Kevin," Hughes said. He added that Quiet Riot's recent tour had gone well.
Williams said she didn't think DuBrow had any health problems. "He was as strong as an ox, that boy. He ate well, took a lot of vitamins. He worked out, and of course when he performed it was quite a workout," she said Tuesday from Las Vegas. "He never looked better." She said she had last communicated with him about a week ago by text message, with no indications that anything was awry.
As of Tuesday, the Las Vegas police were not investigating the death as a suspicious one. Samantha Charles, the communications officer with the Clark County coroner's office, said that an autopsy was performed Monday on DuBrow and that official determination of the cause of death would depend on results of toxicology tests, which could take six to 12 weeks.
"With everything that's happening," Williams said, "I'm just trying to take care of Kevin's cats."
He had two of them. Said Hughes: "He was crazy about those cats," and Williams agreed -- she said she and DuBrow had picked them out together.
DuBrow was a regular guest at Hughes' ocean-adjacent Los Angeles home. "He was truly like a little brother to me," Hughes said by phone Tuesday. "He was a very, very sweet, generous, kind, sensitive man. Loud and proud, yes, we all know about that, but there was a very personal side to Kevin that I will miss very, very dearly." Hughes helped write the songs on Quiet Riot's 2006 album, "Rehab," and was working on material for DuBrow's next project.
"There's a myth, I guess, if you're a rock 'n' roller, and you're of an age, you're a partyer," said Hughes, his proper English upbringing sounding in his voice. "But I can report that I never saw Kevin out of control, ever."
Hughes said that the residence in which DuBrow's body was discovered Sunday belongs to DuBrow's mother. The Quiet Riot singer lived alone, Hughes noted, and enjoyed the bachelor life, a predilection that contributed to his split with Williams, a tall blond with a photo-op figure who had helped DuBrow try to adopt a healthier lifestyle in recent years.
DuBrow was expected to fly in Friday night for a party at Hughes' house but uncharacteristically had not been in contact for a week. When he didn't show up or respond to messages, Hughes called Williams on Sunday to ask that authorities investigate.
DuBrow led Quiet Riot to the top of the charts in 1983 with the group's hit "Cum on Feel the Noize," which propelled the group's third album, "Metal Health," to sales of more than 6 million copies.
"He was one of the best singers rock has ever seen," said Blackie Lawless, singer-bassist of the L.A. extreme-metal band WASP, contacted Tuesday while on tour in Germany. "He had a voice like a razor blade that just cut right through you. And that voice is now silent."
"He was one of the first people I ever met when I came to L.A.," said Lawless, adding that he'd kept up the acquaintance for 32 years. "Kevin and I had a unique kinship, because our styles were similar, and we were both the same age. The third gig I ever played in L.A. was with him and Quiet Riot, when [guitarist Randy Rhoads] was still in the band."
"Quiet Riot [was] the first real MTV rock band," Lawless observed. "I always used to tell everybody that when people write rock 'n' roll encyclopedias, you'll see your '64 British invasion, the '56 Elvis chapter and the '69 Haight-Ashbury chapter -- well, L.A. will have its own '82-'83 chapter, and Quiet Riot would really be the beginning of that chapter."

Bill Nye, fuck you. No one is making fun of them. Fucking relax already. These people were in the public eye. And for the record, if my mom always wore silly wigs and then she passed away, I don't think I would be too offended by someone asking "what wig would they bury her in." It would be a joke. And I would get it. And I think my mom would have found it amusing too.
And as for you danielle, I wasnt using caps to be obnoxious, I was just quoting you directly. Plus, the whole sentence wasn't it all caps. Also, in your reply I really hope you missed spelled those other words on purpose as a joke. If so, I found it amusing.

Yeah right you would find it a joke if your mom had died and someone asked you what wig she was buried in. You obviously have not had someone close to you die and you must not have any real emotions either if you would laugh if someone said something that unfeeling and disrespectful to you. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.
Casey, Kevin and any of their friends and family that may be reading this, I'm sorry that people are beig rude and disrespectful. All of you have my upmost respect and condolences. Rest in Peace Casey and Kevin and may the people close to you or who were touched by your music find comfort in their time of need.

Posted by Anonymous | November 28, 2007 9:09 PM
Come on people, honestly.
Quit being immature, we're here to leave comments, not insults.
Casey Calvert was an amazing person and guitarist.
I probably wouldn't have started playing if it weren't for the musical inspiration he so instilled in me.
Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2007 8:28 AM
hey anon 7:59, did you even read what i wrote?
Do you understand the difference between a mean-spirited joke at someone's expense and a light-hearted joke? That's the point I'm emphasizing, and I'm sorry you can't see that. And don't tell me that I haven't lost people close to me, because that simply isn't the truth.
Oh, and I doubt anyone from either of the families is going to read this message board. And even if they did, like I said before, if you actually read through the comments, there really haven't been too many disrespectful comments.
Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2007 10:27 AM
Casey was awesome, not heard Kevin's band, I'm sure they were good.
Why are you people arguing with each other over the deceased?
That's a pretty lame thing to do and you can not call your self a fan if you seriously start insulting either Casey or Kevin, even just starting arguements with the other people who have posted is a pathetic thing to do.
Please stop.

I loved Hawthorne Heights and Quiet Riot.
Geez.
I can't believe this.
Idk if HH will replace Casey and I don't want them too; it's just gonna suck without having those new albums come out in the future, except the one they already recorded.
WELL..I HAVE TO HOPE FOR THE BEST.
RIP CASEY & RIP KEVIN.
I LOVED THOSE GUYS.
THEY WERE COMPLETELY AMAZING.
&& FOR ALL OF YOU PPL THAT ENJOY THOSE STUPID IDIOTIC JOKES: FUCK YOU.

Is there anyway the webmaster can find a way to be able to delete peoples comments and the way they logged onto this site when they very immaturely post degrading, ignorant and disrespectful comments such as I, unfortunately, had to read to get to the next good comments by people with hearts and loved the ones deceased? I agree it's sad to see such ignorance and lack of self control and mental power to see what has happened - people that were loved died. What did Kevin do to any of you who were ignorant enough to degrade him or anyone that wrote their condolances? These people need banished from the internet if they have nothing better to do than to waste their time and ours with such worthless garbage like I read above. To the webmaster: Is there anyone that reads these blogs that can delete such ignorant comments and keep it respectful for the deceased? I can see if it was Hitler or Hussein but they weren't. Appreciate if you would take this into consideration as this is very disrespectful to all who were hurt over their passing and have hearts and feelings. Thank you and, yes, we'll miss you Kevin as your music made my teenage years somewhat as I bought the first Quiet Riot album they made that I knew of in the US, 'Metal Health'. Apparantly these children (level of maturity - heck, even children mourn over someone passing even if they don't known them...), above, don't even know who he is or ever heard his music and should be banned from this site from ever posting another comment as it blattantly appears they have nothing better to do in life. I took the time today, trying to find out why Kevin died, to look at all kinds of websites and come upon this were people with NO LIVES somehow find the time to prove it to the world by posting worthless comments. Please have these people banned and removed from this site for keeps. I think IP Addresses banned will work? I know they do that on other websites. Remember, I know you guys might not all believe in Jehovah God or the bible but there will be a resurrection in the future after this system of things is done away with and death and illness is no more. Maybe he'll be back then if Jehovah is willing. Either way, yes, it hits home.
Take care everyone! James

i saw quiet riot in the 80's at "la'mour east" on queens blvd, nyc. i was listening to their version of "cum on feel the noize", and when i sidled up next to the amp-stack to get a really close up experience of their jamming; much to my surprise there was a fat guy sitting on a folding chair, hidden behind the amps, playing guitar with the band! thats when i realized that they were just doing business, jumping on the metal wave to make dough; they were NOT a sincere band. more like a creation to milk the kids of the era that were nuts for the likes of judas priest, and iron maiden. true story.

Hey Kev, why'd you have to mess with that white powder?? What a hell of a voice! I crank your stuff up on the weekends on a PA and blast the house with it. Some of the material could be better, but from a wild goth vampire dude (me) you totally kicked ass with that voice. It really stinks when a good old boy takes the dirt nap, especially when it's too early.
I like to go down town with your stuff blasting in the car, people stare at me, but they've always stared, it just amuses me.
Cheers, maybe one of these days you'll sing again.
