where is "standing room" at united palace???????????? and i think you have to buy a pair of tixs to get the album for free blahhhhh

Posted by hmmm | November 30, 2007 10:08 AM

I called the United Palace and they said "standing room" is to the left or right sides of the theater. I asked if you could stand near or far and she said basically anywhere on the sides. I'm still not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound half bad.

anyone dropping $75 on a sro ticket is all-at-once & simultaneously the perpetrator and complicitous victim of (self-inlicted) unarmed robbery. if n. young ever possesed an ounce of shame it got spilt and refilled to overflowing with greed. prince of a chap. complete nonsense. okay - now let's hear from the "don't blame neil" ninnies.

Posted by drunkenstepdad | November 30, 2007 11:19 AM

drunkestepdad is probably the same one who thought $9000 was too much to see Radiohead!

What, no "Cortez the Killer"?

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2007 12:02 PM

utterly effin ridiculous. they did the released the EXACT same tickets the day of the arcade fire show. the standing section is a "box" (literally) at the very tippy top of the balcony section. both a rip off AND a fire hazard.

hasn't the UPT been shut down yet? the place is a rock and roll disaster waiting to happen.

DONT pay for those tickets!...

talk about females performing Neil Songs: The Be Good Tanyas do a great version of For the Turnstiles, it's on Hello Love, along with an equally spectacular When Doves Cry cover.

Dig if you will the picture....

Well couple of things
actually the standing room is on the sides of the the main floor. You can only go up so far which i think is about the 15th row
and it gets really crowded and you cant see that well from there but i guess you get in for 75 dollars for a ticket that was 200. Plus you can try to scam an empty seat.

and drunkenstepdad is absolutely right. Neil Young is totally part of the blame for this fiasco. To say he had no knowledge of ticket prices or how they are handling it is to not know neil young at all. If you know anything about him you are aware he is very hands on with his art and business. This tour really is a stain on his character as far as greed goes. Long gone is the "This Notes for You" Neil.

oh and 9000 is way way too much to see Radiohead(and i love them)

I understand everyone complaining about the ticket prices. And I was too. But I saw this tour in D.C. at the DAR Constitution Hall and it was excellent. He is on his game and definitely is not mailing it in, he gives it his all. He plays an acoustic set and electric set, lots of material from Chrome Dreams II, lots of classics, rarities and even a few things nobody has heard before. It is a very intimate evening. And if you don't walk out thinking you got your money's worth, it won't be by much. You get acoustic neil and grunge jamming neil. He tore the DAR Hall down a couple weeks ago. The United Center may be a little too big for this show, we'll see.

no,no, no. as pseudnym implies i'm long gone - it's after 5 o'clock n'all. "...canadian club love, a place in the country everyone's ideal everyone's ideal...," - check out roxy music. neverheless uknowwho is one greedy mf'fn sob. i'm sorry for his kids - htg i am - but no way it costs this much to take care of 'em v. fan's interests. suggest next album title to be "chrome dome - scalped my stupid sob fan's" - wid a pic of a screaming bllodthirsty native american (pun > or < intended) holding a scalp & a tomahawk standing above a bacon-cookin' pilgrim, face down on a prarie somewhere in the mid-west.

ps - $9k is that too bad for radiohead considering @ 63% of folks downoladed "in rainbows" for nutin'.) god bless 'em.

don't miss "the clean" at the cake factory or in philly at jb's. i'll buy you a drink i9f you mention this bull shit. i'm the old fat guy at the bar.

peas, out (as in plant of the peas {i.e., apes]), changed the marquis in my heyday. charlton heston rocks - sort of. hey, i'm sobering up as i wite this.

Not a cheap ticket. But how many great American rock icons are still standing? Bob Dylan is the only other one who comes to mind - and you have to see him at casinos or baseball parks, playing a set that might not be very satisfying. After Neil Young, there's still Lou Reed or Iggy or Bruce, to name a few. But Neil's the last of a breed, and he wont be around forever (remember his little medical problem a few years ago?). Someday, there'll be someone who will tell you that they'd have given their right arm to see Neil Young live - but you don't have to pay that big a price now.

Posted by drewo | November 30, 2007 5:52 PM

A (North) American icon, that is.

Posted by drewo | December 1, 2007 10:27 AM

Tixs are not cheap but have you seen how many tour busses for gear, crew and musicians he has to use for these (um, small for him) theatre shows. I assure you he is not stuffing his own pockets with the extra cash. It is going to pay his longtime staff members and band members whom he takes care of better than any recording artists I know of. He could have played big arenas and charged much less for tixs but then these blogs would be filled with complaints about how he never plays small venues and how much the large arenas suck. The man can't win. I think seeing a legend with a 40 year song selection like Neil Young is an honor. Pay for your ticket and don't complain or stay home and watch the rain.

Typical schmuck talking right out of his ass. Idiot, Neil doesnt have that big a touring crew on this tour. It is actually much smaller than say the Greendale. Actually on this tour most of the money does go into his pockets. Maybe you should go stand outside MSG and see the amount of trucks that wee used for the Van Halen tour before you start making dumb statements.
And yes, United Palace is not MSG but its not some tiny theater either. Most artists who play big places and then tour more intimate theaters charge less when they play smaller. Apparently you have not been to a show at MSG in ages to know that the top ticket prices are in the 350 range. I know what the shows have been like on this tour. I have plenty of boots and they sound great. Even with this anyone who bought a ticket has every right to stand up and point the finger at the ridiculous greed this man is showing at this time. Even more so considering what he has been about over the years and how he has stood up to this kind of thing in the past.

" Even with this anyone who bought a ticket has every right to stand up and point the finger at the ridiculous greed this man is showing at this time."

Save that kind of reaction for politicians - people who really rip you off.

Neil Young owes you and I nothing. Yet he has given us decades of great music. And continues to do so. I may just stand up and point a finger and say: thank you.

Yes and after that you should turn around, drop your pants and excitedly let him continue to fuck you in the ass.

I think he's keeping himself busy enough, what with making new records, touring, and stuff like this:

The Bridge School Benefit is an annual non-profit charity concert held in Mountain View, California every October at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. The concerts are all organized by musician Neil Young and his wife, Pegi.

Posted by drewo | December 1, 2007 2:10 PM

haha i was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring up the Bridge School Benefits. Lame. The Bridge school charity is an extremely noble thing and does a lot of good. He should be commended for that. Does not take away from the fact that he is showing an incredible amount of greed on this tour.

I am so sick of hearing people complain about ticket prices. It's simple if you don't feel like paying $75 to see Neil Young than simply don't pay it, stop your bitching and shut up. He should be able to charge whatever the hell he wants. If you want to pay $20 or less to see show in NYC there are plenty of other options.

Yeah what this guy said. We should all take getting fucked in the ass and not complain about it or not even say anything about it.
And for that matter, we should not complain about the war in iraq. We should just take whatever our govt does and not complain about it. If you dont like it then just get up and leave this country.
Yeah i am in total agreement with this Einstein's comments. I am so sick of people complaining about things. They should just shut up and deal with it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2007 1:40 PM

Anon 1:40 - People should complain about the unjust invasion and occupation of Iraq by US forces. Lots of people do. Neil Young even made a whole record about it.

The difference is the war is being funded by our taxes (assuming your work and pay taxes) - we are forced to pay for a misguided invasion and pointless occupation of another country, an act of aggression that's responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people. People should complain to their elected officials and should protest. I'd even call for a tax protest to stop funding the war machine. But that's for another post, and has nothing to do with Neil Young.

Neil Young makes music and is an entertainer. You can take him or leave him. He does not tax your paycheck each week. You may even have obtained some of his music for free. Maybe you should send him a small check for all the bootlegs in your collection. You ask yourself how much value Neil Young has added to your life. The choice is yours.

The government offers no choices. It forces you to pay up every week, and if you resist, you will ultimately find yourself face to face with the barrel of a gun.

It doesn't take an Einstein to see the weakness of your analogy. Direct your anger towards the government. They are the ones who truly owe you something.

Posted by drewo | December 2, 2007 2:24 PM

Drewo,
unfortunately you are as much of an idiot as the guy who said people should stop complaining. Thank you for the long winded but simplistic explanation of what our government is doing to us. Yes the analogy of course is not the same. Any moron would see that. The point though is strong and correct. The idea being that no matter what the case or situation, it is every persons right to complain when they think something is wrong. To say oh i hate complainers and you should just shut up about it is ridiculous. Unmitigated greed fits into this category nicely and certainly when it is committed by someone who has been the antithesis of this in the past.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2007 2:52 PM

Sorry for the long windedness. But judging from the name calling and juvenile tone of earlier posts, it seems simplicity is in order.

Complain all you want. About the government and about high concert prices. But the best way to be heard is with your wallet - refuse to pay and refuse to go.

I just wish it was that easy with the government.

Well i am not sure that refusing to pay and refusing to go is the best way to be heard. Might be true but there will always be rich people with endless money supplies who dont care and maybe this is what Neil was counting on. Who knows but it is certainly not easy.

There is nothing wrong or juvenile with calling someone an idiot. It is a straight to the point with no bullshit. If you don't want to be called that, dont make stupid comments. Your long winded simplisitic response was not the same though. It was just more validity of my previous insult. Nice of you to apologize for it though. Hopefully that means there will not be more idiocy coming from you.

You can always hop the A train and stand outside the theater during the Neil Young shows and hold a sign and voice your discontent. We'd see then who gets called an idiot.

Posted by drewo | December 2, 2007 4:08 PM

The only thing that irks me about the ticket price is that you don't get a real opening band. His wife is the opening band, great way to keep the money in the family. I wonder how much Neil is demanding the promoters pay his wife as an opening act. And don't forget, you don't even get a full Crazy House as the backing band.
