School of Seven Bells = Secret Machines + On! Air! Library!

School of Seven Bells is a new band formed by Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines. He left Secret Machines in early 2007 to concentrate on the new band solely. The band also includes twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, formerly of On! Air! Library!, and James Elliot aka Ateleia. Curtis and the Deheza sisters met when both were opening on an Interpol tour. [Wikipedia]They're on tour with Prefuse 73. That means they play Bowery Ballroom in NYC tonight (Nov 26, 2007). All tour dates below....

Christ, I'd love to be in a band with those two goddesses!

Regardless of how good this band is (and I will definitely try to get down to Bowery tonight), I really, really hope Benjamin finds some time to get back with Secret Machines again, assuming that's a possibility. It's just not the same without him. I'll never forget the disappointment leaving Highline after seeing the post-Benjamin Secret Machines for the first time. Serious buzzkill sesh. Didn't catch any of their run at The Annex, but I assume it was more of the same.

Agreed, Drugs. I saw the Machines out at Warsaw a few months prior to the Highline show, at their "in the round" tour, and I blabbed to any and all how it was one of the most incredible shows I'd ever seen ... and then, I found a friend to take me up on the boast, only to then sit and listen to that garbage for 2 hours. A total, inarguable disappointment.
The fact that the Curtis's are brothers gives me some hope they'll get back together at some point.

Drugs, I was at one of the Annex shows as well as at the Highline.. more of the same. I can remember one good song they played at the Highline but the rest was slow & sludgy, just way too different to be called Secret Machines.
Maybe the album will sound different...

don't kid yourself, the secret machines suck with or without this guy in the band. the first album had maybe 1 or 2 good songs and that's about it. go eat a hana sandwich

Their myspace page sounds really fucking weird.
This is why Benjamin left the band? You gotta be fucking kidding me.
I'm with you Drugs D, bring back the Machines!!

I was a big fan of On Air Library and I've been listening to the few currently available tracks by this band quite a bit lately. I think they'll be big in '08.. interesting sound, hard to pigeonhole..
