Spiritualized tomorrow, win tix, tour dates
DOWNLOAD: Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space (MP3)
Spiritualized in Denmark, Nov 2, 2007 (CRED)

This week, Spiritualized broke a three or four year absence on this side of the Atlantic with a series of acoustic concerts that premiered at Bimbo’s, one of San Francisco’s best and oldest venues. Every seat in the small club was taken with fans who have patiently waited for Jason Piece, the mastermind behind Spaceman 3 and Spiritualized, to take the stage again and reclaim his legacy. [car less in LA]The NYC show is tomorrow (Nov 16, 2007) @ The Apollo Theater. Simple Kid is opening. It's sold out, but keep trying - I heard tickets keep going on and off sale. Would love to go, but not going to trek up to the Apollo. Saw him a few years ago at Irving Pl and before that at Bowery Ballroon. Both times were amazing. Does he still refuse to play Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space?

it's not sold out. it was, but as of now, tickets are still available on ticketmaster.

He played a bit of "Ladies and Gentleman" the second night in L.A., then modulated it into a bit of "Can't Help Falling in Love." He also did a bunch of great old Spacemen 3 material: "Hey Man," "Walkin' w/ Jesus," "Lord Can You Hear Me When I Call." Wow, what a great show.
Posted by JZ | November 16, 2007 2:02 AM
not to nit-pick, but Sonic Boom might disagree with the statement that Jason was the mastermind behind Spaceman 3.
Posted by pjx | November 16, 2007 9:37 AM
i'm really looking forward to this tonight. even if he only did "broken heart" from "ladies and gentlemen..." i'd be more than satisfied. has he been playing any new material?

great show..people were actually showing up during the enoce..way to waste $45 stupid hipsters
Posted by Anonymous | November 17, 2007 1:39 AM
yeah it seems like these hipsters have never been to an adult concert....leaving seats tripping over people to go to the bathroom midsong, taking dozens of pictures on cell phones, etc... the scene didn't change once for the entire concert and this fat douche kept taking shot after shot for 90 minutes. wtf, grow up and see something besides les savy fav, jackass

Forget that bullshit. beautiful show almost ruined by the fucks yelling out shit throughout the show. Why must the rest of us be subjected to your annoying quips. Even when it was clear that Jason was ignoring all of it. Could these idiots not figure out that hmmmm he is playing with singers and violionists who probably do not play with him often so maybe he cannot veer from the set program. Duh. Oh and to the biggest moron who shouted out "Welcome to NY, Jason" Please die you asshole. He has been here and performed here a number of times before this.
All of this though could not kill a really beautiful show.
Saw Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers there.

It was an awesome show. Not many people take risks anymore, so it was refreshing to have Mr. Pierce remind us theres more to indie rock than four white guys with guitars.
As a bit of redemption - I saw the fat a-hole who was shouting all night get "politely" tossed by the Apollo security.

Great Show overall. Simple Kid sucked and what was with everyone getting up all the time. Is it so hard to sit d watch a show for 90 minutes?
Was that Michael Stipe in the balcony box?
Posted by th | November 17, 2007 9:32 AM
To the guy who scream out, "take of your sunnys jason"....you are an idiot..same goes for the girl who requested "mediacation" after every song..
simple kid was pretty bad except for the last song which I quite liked...and the kermit the frog duet on its not easy being green..
Posted by Anonymous | November 17, 2007 10:31 AM
Yeah the people screaming out stuff got extremely annoying and was actually embarrasing-it's fine at a a louder, less intimate show or at a larger venue, but here it just seemed out of place. I am assuming that they were drunk-those drinks seemed strong. Is this just a New York thing? Seriously-I have gone to shows in California and Texas and the crowds out west are never as annoying as in this city, with the cell phones, screaming, getting up every few minutes to go to the bathroom (cocaine) and constant Blackberry checking.
I am so glad that he sang "Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space". That and "All of My Tears" were the best songs IMO.
I thought some people were late because they didnt know how to get to Harlem/were apprehensive about going to a non-white neighbhorhood or something.
OK, I'm being too negative...but it was a great show and it was nice to see the songs presented in a new way that showed how they worked without the wall of noise and the light show. If they work with all these different arrangements and settings, then you know they are good!

Amazingly great show. I thought it was Michael Stipe too but after a good long stare I realized it wasn't.
Silver fucking Cowboy Boots!

stellastarr* was definitely there
music slut's got pixxx
jason is sexxxeee
Posted by Anonymous | November 17, 2007 2:38 PM
lol stellastarr will be anywhere they can photographed, cause they're an industry band that no one gives a shit about.
the fat guy yelling out that stuff getting his camera stuffed in his face then brought out was awesome.
and yeah that kid that yelled out "welcome to new york" was absurd. every 30 seconds taking out his camera phone.
these kids need manners.

ugh! i am reading this board and so relieved that others were irritated at the audience at friday night's show. so these two hipsters/ scensters were walking out behind me - a guy and girl - who were discussing the yells / "shout outs" from the audience. I turned around and said, "yeah, those stupid people really annoyed me." the girl made a face and said, "i thought it was awesome. that's what new york needs, especially at a spiritualized show. especially at the apollo." i said "whatever," and turned around, knowing that i did not want to get in a fist fight. BUT I WAS ENRAGED!!! first of all, girlfriend is telling me what NEW YORK NEEDS?!!! i think nyc has a fine social scene, thank you. secondly, YOU CAN GET LOUD AT THE APOLLO?!!! as compared to where? as in, we are in harlem, so we can act like loud black people? excuse me?! and finally, are spiritualized shows ROWDY everywhere but nyc? have you ever SEEN OR HEARD SPIRITUALIZED BEFORE TONIGHT? this bitch was ridiculous in every way. fortunately, she did not ruin a great show for me, but that was truly one of the worst crowds i have ever seen. i was afraid j. was going to walk off the stage - i was happy to see him in a good mood, despite the morons.

"FREE BIRRRRRRD"!!!
Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2007 3:41 PM
for such a "special" Spiritualized show (meaning: not a full band/rock show), and given the fact that it was all the way uptown at The Apollo i was shocked at how BAD the crowd was. Yikes!! I did my best to tune out all of those people yelling out requests, etc...
Great Show...too bad SO MANY people there who are not into J. Spaceman....how/why did they come?
Posted by KRS | November 18, 2007 5:36 PM
"as in, we are in harlem, so we can act like loud black people?"
Anon 3:13pm...I'm going to assume that you are not trying to suggest that all black people, be they from Harlem or otherwise, are loud and obnoxious.

i wasn't there, but is it possible that the guy yelling "welcome to ny" meant that the crowds at most ny shows are filled with self-important assholes? it really has changed a lot over the last several years.
i rarely go to shows anymore because there are so many douchebags. it's not quite as bad as this in other cities.
Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2007 6:02 PM
anon 5:51, i think he was saying that's what it seemed like the dumb chick was insinuating.

Anon 6:02, you sir are a jackass. Good thing you do not go to shows anymore. I invite you to take the fuckwit who screamed "Welcome to ny" and go out on a date together far away from any concert venue. No he did not mean it as you stated. He is just a moron like yourself.
Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2007 7:15 PM
I've been to enough NYC shows to know how bad the crowds are, but that show was exceptionally bad. I guess people didn't recognize that it was an acoustic show, so they needed to speak in their quiet voices. I actually put in my ear plugs not to lower the music, but to drown out the crowd.
I wouldn't be bothered if we were watching a rock show at Irving Plaza or whatever its called now, but c'mon folks. I take it most of the a-holes in the crowd work in the "music industry."
Posted by David McCaffredy | November 18, 2007 8:15 PM
man do stellastarr* suck really bad ass. they think they're cool for liking "good music"
Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2007 8:38 PM
I loved the show. Very special engagement, indeed.
But I'd like to use this opportunity to give a big, ass-hole-ic "thank you" to the two ladies behind me that spent the 2nd half of the show having a gab-fest about Lord-knows-what.
I'm talking about you, Row U, seats 12 & 14!!!
Posted by these blues | November 18, 2007 9:12 PM
I think it would be interesting if an act was performing on stage and got so (justifiably) annoyed by the NYC audience that they walked off stage and cut the show short. I wonder what the reaction to that would actually be-maybe they would be so apprehensive about the media reaction that they are afraid to do it even if they really want to.
Posted by Charles | November 18, 2007 9:18 PM
...or maybe they don't do it so as not to disappoint the members of the audience who aren't misbehaving.
Posted by Anonymous | November 18, 2007 9:56 PM
the show was great.
I'm glad he played "Walkin' With Jesus", I wish he played a few other spacemen numbers. but his song selection made me smile a lot. the sound was great, jason sung beautifully..
the crowd was a little loud - I was sitting lower mezzanine and all I heard were people talking and getting up and shouting for the same song over and over again ("SHINE A LIGHT JASSOONNNNN!" or "MEDICATION PLEAZZZEEEEE!!") that type of shit kind of annoyed me because it was supposed to be such an intimate experience.
Simple Kid did his best.. it must have been nerve-wrecking for him- probably his first time playing nyc, having to play a sold-out show at the apollo opening for Spiritualized. I'd be pissing myself!
Posted by gentlemen | November 19, 2007 11:43 AM
The show was excellent, but those (like myself) who had mezzanine seats a few rows in front of the bar had to deal with the constant clinking of glasses and ice, loud bartenders and very bright lights that would not dim. Not unlike watching a movie in the theater with the lights on, and not what you want at such an intimate experience.
I'm guessing this is a pretty common gripe at Apollo shows, but I would certainly take that into consideration the next time I need to see a show there....
