« video of Peter Moren & Carl Newman ('Never My Love') + new PB&J Tour Dates (tonight) | sad news from O'Death - European tour cancelled »

Repetitious images captured Stevie Wonder's Madison Square Garden concert on Saturday because photographers were allowed only minutes to take pictures of Mr. Wonder, who performed with his daughter, Aisha Morris, and others. [NY Times]"Stevie Wonder fans got more than they bargained for last night (Nov. 17), as Tony Bennett and Prince made surprise appearances during the R&B legend's sold-out show at New York's Madison Square Garden." [Billboard]
"...Yes, Prince came out to play guitar during "Superstition" but they pretty much buried his guitar in the mix until he took a solo which was short and nothing special. And honestly for what Prince has been doing lately to his fans on the internet i really hope people post pictures and videos of him from tonite all over the place. Tony Bennett on the other hand was great as he always is..." [Anonymous]

What a great show that was. From the vocoder medley to the special guests to the dance sessions intermixed with lovely ballads. His voice has not aged a day in 30 years.

Even though I stated otherwise on this board, I DID end up buying a just-released $165 ticket last week... & I'm glad I did! Great show.

I was there and I thought the first half of the show was a little slow. The second half however, was probably the best hour or so of music I have ever seen live. Tony Bennett gave me chills and Prince, though brief was awesome. A once in a lifetime show. Stevie's band was top notch. The 'dueling harmonicas' with Frederic Yonnet was another amazing highlight.

Ahhhh, I was wondering who the harmonica player was. Thanks!

Stevie showed why he is a legand. 2 1/2 hours straight of great music and none of his cheesey 80's material. I reluctantly paid $165 right before the show started. Money well spent!

Loved the fact that he focused on the 70's stuff. The tail end of the show, I think it was Signed Sealed Delivered; My Cheri Amour; For Once in my Life (original version then with Bennett); Boogie on Reggae Woman (with that harmonica jam between him and a guest); Sir Duke; I Wish; You are the Sunshine of my Life; Superstition (with Prince); As.
Can't beat that.

Here's a funny, informative review that gets beyond the typical MSM fare...
http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/the-stevie-wonder-bar-mitzvah-band-is-now-available-for-weddings-and-arena-rock-shows/
Excerpt: "Every time the house lights go down and a band takes the stage, I generally hope the show begins with a balls-out rocker, a top-drawer opener eager to fuck me right in the ear. Stevie on this night didn’t disappoint, treating the crowd to a solemn speech that started with a moment of silence for 9/11 and an emotional anecdote about the loss of his mother. In a word, rager. Fucking rager."

Less than five minutes to shoot a blind man. I love the publicists' response.
I hope it shows the public what concert photography has been reduced to.

What does his blindness have to do with anything? If you mean he shouldn't object to the photographers because flashes don't bother him, what about the members of his band?
Posted by Anonymous | November 19, 2007 10:32 PM
concert photographers are prohibited from using flash in most venues.

I went to the shows at MSG and Boston. Both were great! NY was amazing, especially when Tony Bennett and Prince hit the stage. But the highlight for me was the harmonica duet with Fred Yonnet on Boogie On Reggae Woman in NY. I had never seen Stevie Wonder so energetic. They were bouncing and jumping around so much that he almost fell off the stage. Yonnet is clearly the air apparent to the the Wonder throne and from the way he sounds, he deserve to be. Thanks Mr. Wonder for sharing your talent and your friends.
