The B-52's, pioneering dance-rock stars, are exploding on the scene once again with the February 26th, 2008 release of 'Funplex', the band's first studio album in 16 years and the first with the Astralwerks label.

The influential band - who bridged a gap between punk and new wave with a sound that was uniquely their own - along with producer Steve Osborne (New Order, Happy Mondays, Doves, KT Tunstall) have created a new album as cutting edge, distinctive and danceable as their self-titled debut album and hit single "Rock Lobster" were in 1979.

Recorded in their native Athens, GA and with all 11 songs written by Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson, 'Funplex' finds the band in vigorous, forward stance, while staying true to the party-rock style that influenced such current bands as LCD Soundsystem, Interpol and The Scissor Sisters. Guitarist Keith Strickland explains, "It's loud, sexy rock and roll for your pleasure zones, with the beat pumped up to hot pink."

"We are thrilled to be bringing The B-52's music to a new generation of intergalactic fans. Cindy, Fred, Kate, and Keith have made an album that is incredibly fresh, dynamic and perhaps most importantly, quintessentially The B-52's ... instantly recognizable, instantly fun," Astralwerks label manager Glenn Mendlinger comments.

The band have been touring nonstop, recently making a triumphant return to Europe after a 10 year absence, headlining Spain's Benicassim Festival and the London Lovebox Festival this past summer. Fans will get a sneak peak at 'Funplex' with live performances set for 10/31 at Roseland Ballroom in NYC and 11/16 at The Roxy in Los Angeles.

Kate Pierson's rack still looks rad.

aw, screw you all. The B52s are fun. And there's a like 12% chance the album will be good, even.

As for Kate Pierson's rack, I'll take Fred Schneider's yelp anytime.

Anyone know if Sterling Campbell was on drums?

The B52s were terrible last night. There was an utter lack of energy and the band totally phoned this one in. I don't think homegirl with the blond hair moved all night.

Yes, it was Sterling Campbell on drums.

ok so i went into this one with very low or no expectations as far as either band was concerned... but i was getting in for free via a friend of a friend who's an employee at roseland. so we were on the v.i.p. stage i guess it was i have no idea. at any rate, i had a surprisingly good time ok the free drinks may have had to do with it somewhat --- seriously though i swore off ever going to see another reunion show again after Jesus and Mary Chain @ Webster Hall --- and i swore off larger venues the like but i guess it was because maybe i was on the same level as the speakers being that we were elevated on stage as well but the sound was rather amazing! both bands brought the energy! i realized i don't think The Rapture has the greatest songs but they do know how to execute and the songs are pretty cool. the B52's seriously impressed me. I just wanted them to play Dance This Mess Around but i'm kind of glad they didn't because the stuff they did play and it all went blurry beyond a certain point, well that stuff sounded pretty damn good. as in they brought more energy at 50 or whatever they are than many bands i've seen half their age. now the real question is should i go to the Pylon show? and should i go to Ariel Pink and Cass Mccombs at ugh The bowery.

The B-52's are amazing and I almost can't wait til February 26th to get the new music into my stereo and turn it up! Love them all and love Cindy Wilson's raw, powerful vocals on the new songs!
