What exactly constitutes a "shitty" band? Would it be a band with little-to-no musical talent, playing the same three power chords, ala the Sex Pistols? Or is it a band whose songs aren't pleasing to your ear? Personally, I believe the definition of "shitty" should be the former. Unfortunately, many bands in this day and age are written off too quickly because they are relatively measured against the uncontrolable hype surrounding them.

Now don't get me wrong; I completely agree that Vampire Weekend is the most overhyped band of the century, but I find no need to hate on them for that. Their songs may be soft and poppy, but the talent is there and it is undeniable. If I caught them playing at an empty bar up in Morningside Heights, I'd think they were a pretty solid find.

HUGE VW FAN!!! Can't wait for this show. Thanks for the update BV!!

And agreed on the hype -- there are a lot worse bands out there. If you don't like them, fine. More room for us at Bowery!

Vampire Weekend are overhyped?

christ.

i'd imagine less than 15k people in the US even have heard of them...

if you think they're overhyped now, you better put on your blinders throughout 2008

I think shitty is a bad way to describe them... I wonder more why they became musicians... they are so lacking in passion or ideas... oh wait.. money, feeling important... just another bloodless band in a long list of bloodless bands... well I guess indie rock is over... I'm gonna remember what it feels like to be alive and listen to donovan

yeah I mean music is so lucrative right now. I mean im sure they said hmmm how can me make money. Work on wallstreet...no...invest in realstate...no...I got it we'll form a band hope some one hears us and then...ok we still won't make money
