I saw ravens and chimes at CMJ @fontanas. Their music was interesting and they seem to have a lot of upside potential. Despite their youth and inexperience, i'd definitely recommend attending a show.

what time do you think grizzly bear is actually going on and what time do you think i should get to virgin?

you'd be a fool to skip the bowery show tonight. black angels and a place to bury cobras - tonight we dine.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2007 2:14 PM

Grizzly Bear will be going on right before Daft Punk.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2007 2:18 PM

a place to bury cobras is my new favorite band!

Spindrift is on that Bowery bill as well. Some bands from DE are worth listening to (I hope I didn't just do The Sky Drops a disservice there.)

PYLON is the show of the week by far!

"Sklar Brothers (From LA. sooooo awesome)"

You're soooooo wrong.

Gang Gang Dance and TV on the Radio are playing at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Music starts at 9pm.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2007 2:52 PM

Pylon is playing again tomorrow in Williamsburg, for those who couldn't get tickets for tonight.

I'm going to Pylon tonight, but tomorrow's show at MHoW is maybe a more interesting bill: Free Blood, plus Hugo Burham of Go4 is DJing, as is one of DFA signees Hercules & Love Affair. Can't imagine that show will sell out.

Looks like it's just "members of" TV on the Radio and it costs $100:

For real? Any other details on this?

yowzah, nevermind!

Possibly, but Mercury > MHOW in a big way.

"tonight we dine"

In hell?

Go check out AutoVaughn at 8PM at the Canal Room! Great band from Nashville that doesn't come around here too often...

Anonymous 3:37 PM,

No doubt...smaller is better. And though I actually like MHoW, I'm wondering if Pylon will be able to fill a place that big. If they're good tonight, might go again tomorrow.

@ bill p

Agreed 100%. No knock against MHoW, but Pylon will be great at the good 'ol Mercury.

Posted by Anonymous | November 7, 2007 5:29 PM

Hey, don't knock tonight's Pylon bill at Mercury. Tara Key, Antietam's guitarist, is quite possibly the best guitar player I have EVER seen. And they too have a connection with DFA: James Murphy produced one of their aalbums some time back.

Grizzly Bear was good. They went on just after 7 and played for 35-40 minutes. Setlist for anyone interested:

Alligator
He Hit Me
Little Brother
Knife
On a Neck, On a Spit
new song

They had five guys from a school choir somewhere in the city sing backup on Knife. New song was really good.

Grizzly Bear played a short but sweet set. They were more rockin than I'm used to seeing them and the energy was great. The way these four guys harmonize vocally is unbelievable. It's seamless. On a complete side note: I had never noticed how cute their drummer is. He's really cute. Really really cute. Highlight was On a neck, On a Spit, it was absolutely amazing. The new song is great too.
