I had to leave before the encore unfortunately, i'm glad they didn't play The Room Got Heavy in my absence. sounds like the Chilton set was great.

That show rocked.

The final song was "Jeepster" by T Rex. Todd Barry sat in on the drums.

"Time is on My Side (Stones cover)"

Did they perform that song using the Stones' arrangement or the one used on Irma Thomas's recording? (See link.)

The Mix for Saturday was put together by James. AKA Yo La's Bass Player.

Alex Chilton again on Saturday for the encore. Repeats of Femme Fatale and the Carol King tune. Really fun to watch Alex interact with the band-- it was obvious that both felt a little deferrential to the other, but in a really cute way.

YLT played a different Carol King song during their set too.

Sarah Vowell was the main comedian-- read a piece on a map-maker on the Oregon Trail, which was pretty funny. Same thing she performed during the first 826NYC Bookeaters show at the Beacon.

Amy Poehler did a short, largely improved bit (in disguise as "Ira's aunt") where she discussed why everyone should study Kabbalah.

Great show. I forgot how small Maxwell's is! Definitely worth checking out today or tomorrow if you have a chance.

does anyone know who the opener is tonight? (Monday)

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2007 8:46 AM

Tonight's opener is rumored to be New Pornographers. Makes sense as they're doing a free in-store at the Apple Store tomorrow.

"Time Is on My Side" was sung by Tammy Lynn. The organization receiving the benefit was Ponderosa Stomp, an annual New Orleans music festival.

Alex Chilton has the personality of an accountant singing karaoke. Love his work though, but his live presence is a tad boring.

last night (sun) was great, opened with 8 days a week, closed the set with drug test, tom courtenay, i saw you looking and our way to fall. encores (with red kross) were september gurls (chilton), bus stop (hollies), who loves the sun (velvet underground), and dr. love (kiss) and then ira's mom came up and sang my little corner of the world. good times.

"Tonight's opener is rumored to be New Pornographers."

How the hell are they all gonna fit on the Maxwell's stage, even without Neko?

Well, they've played there before:

I'm sure they'll make it work somehow.

anyone know about what time yo la tengo has been going on the past few nights?

Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2007 1:07 PM

They came on just past 11 on saturday, which was a fantastic show.

Note that the weekday shows start an hour earlier than the weekend though.

Best bet is something like:

doors at 8
opener at 8:30
comedy at 9:15ish
yo la at a little after 10

they haven't come on before 10:45 all week, last night it was just about 11 when they hit the stage
