Dan Fogelberg, RIP

Dan Fogelberg

Dan Fogelberg, one of the most popular singer/songwriters of the '70s and '80s, died Sunday at home in Maine at age 56. He had battled advanced prostate cancer since being diagnosed in 2004. Fogelberg was a key component of the golden age of the confessional singer/songwriter, joining the likes of James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne and more in turning pop music's focus inward after the '60s' explosion of social commentary. Very sad. Fogelberg's music was the soundtrack to many a magical night yachting on The Vineyard. Fortunately most of the indie artists artists these days are equally vapid and saccharine, so I shall not want for soft rock succor.

I remember the couples' skate at the Fairfield Roller Rink, Fairfield, California, in 1980 - they always played "Longer". Open skate was KC and the Sunshine Band or ACDC.

He was not quite the superstar he deserved to be. He wrote some marvelous lyrics.

Only 6 comments. This guy was great. It is a shame more people here don't seem to give a crap that he passed away.
Rest In Peace.

Sadness has permeated most of today. For me, there is not any other singer/songwriter who moved me quite as much as Dan Fogelberg.

I will miss you Dan and never forget you and your work. R.I.P.

Sad news. I'm the #1 fan of the man who sang Leader of the Band.

The day My music died.... I was blessed to spend time with him three times, twice to trade words with him... less than an hour each time. The most exciting moments of my life. I felt like I was in the presence of greatness because I held so much admiration for the person that was able to put my thoughts into words. He wasn't perfect, never pretended to be. But, I sure admired him and loved his talent. I will miss Dan more than words can express. For those of us who discovered his real music, we will miss you. I am sorry for those that never got beyond the commercial work. God Bless You, Dan. With love, from Jan

I put on The Innocent Age at the moment I heard he passed, and it took me right back to those retreat weekends with the girls fawning over the guy playing cliche guitar songs like "Circle Game" and "Father and Son" and "My Sweet Lord." There was always a Dan Fogelberg song in there as well.

Glad to see nobody dissing this topic. He was a great songwriter.
