new Park Slope music venue?

according to a couple of sources, 7th street between 2nd and 3rd aves will soon be home to a new musical venue run by the good folks at union hall. given the problems that i've heard about with their current location - i.e. noise complaints, it makes sense to open something in a location where noise is not an issue. additionally moving the music aspect of their business down the street opens up the basement for quieter activities such as the brilliantly booked sunday night comedy shows. [the food of the future] (via)I hope what "food of the future" is implying (that the new venue would replace the music shows currently going on at Union Hall) isn't true. 7th St & 2nd Ave is about as convenient as the Hook was (okay, not THAT bad - not even close). Anyway, I don't think the noise complaints against Union Hall have anything to do with what's going on in the basement. I even bet that the people going to shows are quieter than the regular upstairs bar crowd. Here's hoping that (assuming this new place really even exists) they have music at both.
UPDATE 1: A better description for this neighborhood might be near-Park Slope, or just Gowanus.
UPDATE 2: Anonymous reports, "The venue would be in addition to Union Hall. It would be more of a music venue...as opposed to a bar with bands downstairs. There would still be music at Union Hall."

This would be great. And it'd actually be one of the easier venues to get to in the area, what with two trains stopping four blocks away.

2nd ave is now Park Slope? Calling 4th ave Park Slope is already a stretch.

Yeah...I'm not sure that 2nd Avenue counts as anywhere, but it's definitely not in Park Slope.

NYT had a feature about the Bottom Line (I only scanned it), and they mentioned the owner of the BL driving around the Slope and Carrol Gardens scoping out potential venues.

Whatever and wherever it is it's all still going to be a hassle.

Now that all the shiny hotels are down there, maybe they can bring in some bigger acts to trash them.

haha what real estate broker tried to convince those people that 2nd ave is park slope? i love the attempt to ignore the fact that this is right on the gowanus canal, this will be a good place to get gonorrhea (http://www.nypost.com/seven/10042007/news/regionalnews/wading_in_gowanus__take_rubber.htm)

it's going to be awesome.

You don't even need an address to figure out that the location pictured is not Park Slope. You can look at all the pictures on Flickr tagged "Park Slope" and you will never come across a picture like the one shown above.
What "park" is this address located near?

the area is gowanus and it would actually be perfect for a music venue that doesn't feel like you should be sipping lattes and pushing a baby stroller.
i saw a bunch of jellyfish in the gowanus canal this year.

Sounds cool! The venue in Union Hall isn't great (unless you're tall). The new location would be perfect for us F train people, not to mention the 9th street bus line.

Yes, Union Hall will still have shows when the new venue opens. The new venue will have a larger capacity and therefore allow for larger acts than the intimate Union Hall performance space. No, it's not in Park Slope, but the F/R at 4th Ave and 9th St make it much more accessible than The Hook ever was.

2nd ave is NOT park slope. Slope begins at 4th ave.

South Brooklyn is having an identity crisis... And 7th & 2nd is not that far from Union & 5th... Stop crying... or listen to shittier music...

Why do you care if they call it Park Slope or not? You're from Iowa anyway, right?

"Why do you care if they call it Park Slope or not? You're from Iowa anyway, right?"
Thanks noisejoke , for telling these pale ass whiteys making affordable housing for blacks and latinos a thing of the past, to go the fuck back to motherfuckin' Montana .

Uh, thanx?
I'm not sure what I'm saying except why would anyone but realtors care what it's called? So many of you are such fags (sorry, nerds).
It's an industrial neighborhood, anyway. For the venue owners purposes wouldn't it be "cooler" to say it's in Gowanus? I mean that's neato for you Iowans, right? Yeah, man, crazy Brooklyn industrial shit only blocks from our bars. Hmm, maybe that's the problem with you Americans. A couple blocks is too long a walk.
So, yeah, sure, go back to motherfuckin' Montana. I've been there a couple times. It's nice. Why'd you and Albini leave in the first place?

Awesome. Outside of more luxury condos, this is exactly what New York needs, yet another music venue. Who are the geniuses behind this idea? Maybe by next year, every band that comes to NY will have their very own music venue. Doesn't anyone remember in the early 90's in NY when coffee shops started popping up everywhere? How many of those are still around? Those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

blacks and latinos are the only ones who need affordable housing? some of us 'whiteys' aren't exactly rolling either. white skin doesnt always mean money.

Dude, if you go to Park Slope, everyone knows you don't go below 5th Avenue period unless you want to see one of the worst rodent problems in all of NY or to score some good crack and maybe an STD. Maybe Brooklyn's new sloga should be WELCOME TO BROOKLYN - TOO BAD YOU'RE TEN YEARS TOO LATE!

have people gotten stupider or have more stupid people acquired computers?
I used to love the internet. Now it just makes me angry... and a little sad :*(
