'Twas a sick night. Danced my ass off. Faux Punk killed it with a 90 minute set that started at 1am. They played 90% Daft Punk with some LCD and Kanye West thrown in for good measure. The place went crazy for them. You would have thought it was really Daft Punk from the way the crowd reacted.
Big props to Dave Bruno who totally tore the place up!
Comparing this show to Keyspan would be retarded, but for what it was, it was fantastic.

Faux Punk > Daft Punk

looks like a sausage fest to me

That was one of the most pathetic nights of 2007. I went there of course with no expectations for a Daft Punk cover crew...but it was so cheesy and the crowd was trying to get into the DJ booth as if it were really Daft Punk. The mixes sucked and the costume/ helmets were so corny.
Did Daft Punk really give permission for this? For a group that hardly tours and wont even release a proper Alive DVD, I am very surprised that they would sanction this as "official".
Studio B blows balls.

A dj cover band? So I can go and play electronica records by the artist and be a cover band now?? Awesome!! Wait for the L.E.D. Noisesystem dates to pop up soon. I'm getting paid bitches.

the 2 fights at around midnite towards the back were fun moments. really fratty vibe for the most part. and skipping computers wee hoo
but i had fun overall. cant go wrong with too much daft punk i guess... but i'm still kinda like why is the dj flashing a HOVA sign??? or am i way off-base?

Pathetic night. Jock-ridden crowd. Nobody seemed to care much about music until these clowns put the helmets on (soon after playing "Star Guitar" by Daft Punk; wait, no, Chems).
Faux indeed.

Posted by greg | December 10, 2007 5:29 PM
su:
the "hova" sign was what they were flashing to the crowd since their setup is a giant pyramid

Who is Faux Punk? Somebody has to have this info?
Posted by Anonymous | December 10, 2007 5:38 PM
Oh my god. You people are retarded. Faux Punk were cover DJs. Of course, they looked nothing like Daft Punk!! It's like saying that the members of Mr Brownstone don't actually look like the members of Guns 'N Roses! Take it all with a grain of fuckin salt. The music was great and tight as fuck and that's all that should have mattered. Faux Punk played an hour and half of music that was near identical to what Daft Punk actually plays. Bruno played everything from the Chemical Brothers to Digitalism. If you took any of the "performance" seriously, you're a fucking tool and need to get a life. It was about playing HI-NRG and that's what was delivered. If you couldn't dance to it, get your ass out of the way.
And if you think it was a sausage fest, you obviously didn't get laid that night, which just proves what a fucking loser dipshit you really are.
And for the record, Faux Punk is actually James Murphy and Luke Jenner. I refuse to release my sources.......

You are wrong.
Faux Punk is actually Eddie Murphy and Bruce Jenner. I refuse to release my sources.......

I had a good time.
Posted by P.S.H. | December 10, 2007 9:20 PM
the show was an album release party, and the dj's accordingly pretty much dropped the entire cd. it was a way to relive keyspan park/coachella in a high energy setting, with a lot other drunk daft punk fans, who were all ready to party. what more could you possibly ask for? the dancefloor was packed, and most everyone was having a good time, save for a couple of bv commentators.
if you didnt have a good time, you probably just suck at life, which isn't faux punk's fault.

Of course this was done over a year ago in Philadelphia (ya' know before we all wondered what time they went on at) - with a full on light and video show with actual equipment (vs serato)
New York a year late as usual !

Faux Punk is Justice. aDUH.

I don't know, maybe I am jaded after having seen Daft and both Keyspan and at Vegoose (which if you can believe it was actually even better than the Keyspan show). But it felt like a lot of people there were trying to convince themselves they were having the best time ever....as if they missed DP before and were trying to make up for it. Yeah, they played some good tracks but were they really so good that everyone up front needed to basically rush the booth as if it were actually DP? Plus that one costume didn't look like Daft nearly as much as it looked like a sea diver from the 1800's. I thought he was gonna take his helmet off and Steve Zizzou would be under there.
All that being said, it was ok and I thought David Bruno spun a pretty good set.
Finally, why is that it seems a lot of people everyone on here have gotten into house/electro because of Daft Punk, Justice, etc, yet there is never any mention of good house or techno DJ's? Doc Martin is a legend and played an absolutely killer set at Sullivan Room on Saturday night.

I agree with Rob. I had fun and I think it's cause I never tried to compare it to an actual Daft Punk show.
Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2007 1:34 PM
People have gotten into Justice/ Daft Punk because they are really good and were able to transend the normal boundries of just played in the clubs and into played in people's home stereos. Yo it was fun. It wasn't amazing in any sense, but I definately had fun. I do agree that there were alot of guys, but it should more about the music then the getting laid anyways- though thats not bad.

if you went to this show expecting anything that could be even remotely considered as good as daft punk live, you shouldn't have gone at all.
negatives
- they played kanye west's 'stronger' - VOMIT
- milked the fuck out of alot of the samples (i think they looped part of robot rock at least 30 times)
- one dude took his helmet off! sure its hot under there but the REAL daft punk bosses up and deals with it.
positives
+ dance floor communal Js
+ most people goings nuts
+ faux punk not sucking
+ free glow sticks
+ dude wearing the light-up armored helmet
+ sneaking a broke friend in

anyone get any prizes or giveaways? I never saw any that night, maybe I came too late?
Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2007 7:49 PM
Glowsticks are never a "positive."
Also, how many of these guys in the pics have scruffy facial hair? The hell? What kind of job allows you to get away with that? Barista at Starbucks?
