Santogold, Diplo & Amanda Blank @ Music Hall, NYC - pics
then, and now....
Though free, the Metromix holiday party at Music Hall of Williamsburg wasn't that packed. I'm guessing that had something to do with it falling on a day that was simutaneously the worst weather we've had this winter AND one of the busiest nights of the year (Dec 13, 2007) (and Pitchfork hasn't given Santogold 'best new music') (and White Williams was on the bill - his 500th show that week). Anyway, it didn't stop Santogold from putting on a fun show - what she called her first real/official show (in NYC, or anywhere - I can't remember). Last time I saw her it was at the FADER party which was probably a shorter set (but honestly not by much), and it was more industry (though this party was a newspaper party, so it wasn't really normal either).
Last time I saw her (Santi), she also wasn't accompanied by Diplo and Amanda Blank. This time she was. Bonus! I really liked her sidekick the first time though, but Amanda was good too, and she seemed to know all her parts really well, and they played a new song that was produced by Diplo. Actually, they played all the songs Santi had/knew (which wasn't very much, but long enough). More pics below....

Comedian John Mulaney hosted....
And David Bruno and The Rapture DJ'd the holiday party that was at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY.

I thought Santogold and Amanda Blank were tremendous but oh man was that crowd insanely weak. A real letdown. I mean, I know it was a busy night and bad weather, but don't enough Eugene Lang New School students live in Williamsburg to fill a free show? Sort it out.

i liked when White Williams said something about waiting just one more minute for them to finish setting up, and some dude in the crowd yelled "just press play", and he got all defensive and screamed "yeah, that's all we do is press play".
that was funny.
oh, and Santogold was great!
