Earl Greyhound @ Mercury Lounge, NYC - New Years Eve, 2007/8 (CRED)

....while Flaming Lips were doing it in Oklahoma, Mr. Brownstone was playing in Williamsburg, members of Spoon and Wilco were jamming with Jon Brion in Chicago, Gogol Bordello was playing Terminal 5, Dirty Projectors were at Knitting Factory, and Patti Smith was over at Bowery Ballroom before leaving to make room for a late show by Les Savy Fav.
Radiohead played too, but that was taped and from the privacy of your own home.
Earl Greyhound's next scheduled show is at the Langerado Festival in March (where REM is also playing).
The Big Sleep played the Mercury Lounge show too. Their latest news is a new album.

The Big Sleep absolutely killed.
Earl Greyhound sounds kind of like Q104.3. But the drummer gives them a certain funky something they wouldn't have otherwise, I guess. Still, the Sleep stole the show.

Earl Greyhound were the band that killed that night. One of the best live shows I've seen in years. Lenny Kravitz wishes he could rock like they do.
The Q104.3 comment is ironic since The Big Sleep played a Led Zep medley and a Queens of The Stone Age song.
