Guess that means 2 years in a row playing Coachella!

Posted by sdsd@dd.com | January 3, 2008 12:07 PM

Why oh why Terminal 5? It's the worst venue!

I'm so irritated! I got tickets to their Highline show, but can't go because I now have to go away that weekend. ARGH!

Posted by DC | January 3, 2008 12:11 PM

hellz yeah!

Posted by Bobby the Rookie | January 3, 2008 12:12 PM

DC, sell me that ticket please.

Posted by Eduardo Osorio | January 3, 2008 12:15 PM

i hope they play coachella again. last year was a disappointment. not their fault at all, just that they played too early in the day (too hot) and in the wrong tent (too small and crowded) it was impossible to get in. they definitely would have fit into the Sahara's lineup.

Posted by jp | January 3, 2008 12:46 PM

whaaa?? hot chip at coachella last year was awesome, great performance. no chk chk chk, but still great. theyve gotten bigger since, so theyll probably play the sahara.

Posted by Bobby the Rookie | January 3, 2008 1:01 PM

Boo for no Toronto date!

Posted by danieljosef | January 3, 2008 1:09 PM

Speaking of Coachella. I have confirmed through 100% reliable source who books bands for Goldenvoice that the Talking Heads are reforming and headlinging with REM, Beastie Boys, Stone Temple Pilots and the Kinks.

Can u say weak lineup...lineup is better suited for Bonnaroo.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 2:30 PM

if i was 40 and trying to convince my kids that i was once cool, that'd be the greatest lineup ever.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 2:39 PM

It just wouldn't be a proper BrooklynVegan comment threat without someone bitching about Terminal 5, now would it?

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 2:46 PM

That is the first rumor I have heard for headliners that could actually make sense. Even though I havent heard anything solid about Talking Heads.
Does anybody else have info on this years Coachella? Minus Portishead, MBV and the Verve?

Posted by Dave | January 3, 2008 2:47 PM

a shitty room deserves bitching. it just wouldn't be BV without someone defending such lousy space. close already.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 3:05 PM

Talking Heads are not reforming. Not in this lifetime anyway. Anon 2:30 is trying to start a rumour. Nice try jerkoff.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 3:16 PM

Fuck yourself anon 3:16. I hate the Talking Heads so why would I start that? David Byrne is a washed up artsy twat.

My Bloody Valentine will unfortunately not be performing because Kevin Shields does not feel confident in returning to the stage that soon. Those previously announced dates will be the first. However, Coachella 2008 will have more than enough reunions: The Verve, Swervedriver, The Breeders, a No Doubt headlining set, and most surprisingly: Pulp.

Goldenvoice went through great lengths to get Jarvis Cocker to play Coachella last year and Cocker was so impressed with the vibe and weather at the festival that Paul Tollett was able to talk him into bringing the band back together for a one-off performance in 2008.

Gwen Stefani wanted to perform in the dance tent last year, but for various reasons it did not work out, but the Empire Polo Fields have been chosen as the first venue for the reunion of So-Cal favorites No Doubt. Gwen's contributions to the upcoming album are expected to begin next month.

Major acts performing at Coachella 2008:

Friday:
Kanye West
Pulp
the Chemical Brothers
Death Cab for Cutie
Feist
Broken Social Scene
Café Tacuba
the Magnetic Fields
Swervedriver
Supergrass
Jedi Mind Tricks
Saul Williams
Cold War Kids

Saturday:

A Tribe Called Quest
Underworld
the Verve
Sufjan Stevens
the Avalanches
Goldfrapp
Modeselektor
Dwight Yoakam
Cat Power
Calexico
Blackalicious
2 Many DJ’s
Metric
Rabbit in the Moon
Clipse
Tomahawk

Sunday:
No Doubt
Portishead
Aphex Twin
Justice
the Breeders
Jeff Tweedy
Deltron 3030
Armin Van Buuren
Nas
Kinky
Royksopp
Ween
Mogwai
MF Doom
Simian Mobile Disco

Various buzz bands of Coachella 2008:
Hot Chip (in the Sahara tent, this time)
Animal Collective
Dan Deacon
Islands
Asobi Seksu
Beirut
Liars
Black Kids
Okkervil River
Crystal Castles

Wow...worst lineup in years. Think im going to Sasquatch or Lollapalooza this year. Sucks cause I love the Polo grounds.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 3:58 PM

I know for a fact that the line up that "The Calculator" just posted is complete bullshit.....it's not official until its on www.coachella.com, that's been proven year after year...and the only thing on there now is last years line up... nice try peoples..

Posted by Sam | January 3, 2008 5:30 PM

HEY DC

can i get that ticket !!! ??
asDASDASD

for hot chip please

Posted by HEY DC | January 3, 2008 7:01 PM

Worst lineup? I know, right? Seeing R.E.M., Portishead, the Verve, Chemical Bros, Underworld, Pulp, Sufjan Stevens, and so on all in one weekend would suck. No Doubt and Kanye West as headliners sucks, maybe.

Posted by The Calculator | January 3, 2008 7:01 PM

you would actually have more fun seeing sufjan stevens than no doubt?? hipster snobbery at its worst.

r.e.m. is likely not headlining, as its doubtful they could sell that many tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 7:08 PM

Fuck No Doubt...

Posted by new post | January 3, 2008 7:14 PM

I saw No Doubt years ago and it was not that fun. Maybe if Gwen didn't sound so terrible live it would have been decent.

Posted by The Calculator | January 4, 2008 1:31 AM

I think I love their new publicity shots too much

Posted by Nilina | January 4, 2008 5:15 AM

that lineup is speculation, but INFORMED speculation.
I know a large number of the bands listed have offers, but have not confirmed yet, so there are no guarantees, but the calculator def knows what he's talking about.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2008 9:15 AM

"you would actually have more fun seeing sufjan stevens than no doubt?? hipster snobbery at its worst."

. . .ironic hipster snubbery at its worst . . .

saying that no doubt is better than sufjan is like saying pb+j is better than filet mignon (or your vegan equivalent). no doubt were good when i was a kid and my mom packed my lunch.

>>>that lineup is speculation, but INFORMED speculation.

well if you list enough current popular bands you are bound to be right on some of them...but I know for a fact that a few of the bands on the list never received offers and wont be playing..

Posted by Sam | January 4, 2008 10:41 AM

Nice try The Calculator.

At least get the headliners correct if you're going to make a long winded lying post. None of your headliners are a British band...

Posted by Monklish | January 6, 2008 7:15 AM

I hurd talking heads, coldplay and beastie boys are headlining. And its blur playing, not pulp. Portishead and my bloody valentine will play too.

Posted by Hollywood hogan | January 7, 2008 12:11 PM

okayyyy it's up on ticketmaster - who's got the presale password?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2008 3:42 PM

Silly as it may be, that's a bit closer to the truth BROTHER.

Posted by Monklish | January 7, 2008 4:14 PM

So who is Monklish and why does he "know" everything, but won't ever specify what he "knows"?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2008 6:07 PM

Does anybody know the presale password for Hot Chip @ Terminal 5????????

I saw these guys at Bonnaroo and need to see them again. The Highline Shows sold out so quickly.

Posted by Adam | January 7, 2008 8:17 PM

i'll tell you after i get tickets LOL

Posted by Anonymous | January 8, 2008 1:57 PM

Quotation marks give "words" an added smarminess.

I'm not going to reveal the lineup, because the it comes out in the next few weeks, and everyone has the patience to wait a few weeks. I'll probably continue to tease it, though, because I possess privilege, and most people enjoy the excitement of "knowing", whereas most Coachella fans seem to enjoy the excitement of guessing about "what could be". Some foolish person decided to post an overly long-winded bunch of lies pretending to be in my position. I don't want people to get really excited about a grouping of headliners that are essentially incorrect. I'll say something based on fact without being revealing, but with enough truth to show the rest of readers that the fool's post was based on nothing more than his own creativity.

Posted by Monklish | January 8, 2008 6:16 PM

being vague without ever revealing a single band is an effective way to give the impression of being in the know, but minus the risk of being wrong. but its no fun, so spill the beans! if your post ends up correct, you will become a god among us, and if not, then it's not your fault your sources were inaccurate!

i doub anybody actually knows the whole lineup except for mister tollett.

Posted by Anonymous | January 8, 2008 6:53 PM

dunno if you got the presale code yet but it's "madeinmn"

Posted by LB | January 9, 2008 3:34 PM

it was madeinny

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2008 8:15 AM

if anyone has an extra for the highline show, i'll gladly trade a 1/26 ticket to the dj shadow/cut chemist show at irving.

thanks.

No that's a fake lineup. It's actually decently correct, though, but with some noticeable errors though: Justice isn't playing. Islands aren't playing. Xiu Xiu isn't playing. The headliners are mostly wrong. It's missing a big electronic name. They're thinking too young with the headliners. No Doubt might have signed on, but they're not headlining a night. Portishead will be there, but they're not headlining a night (unless they're moved to Friday). Where's Lupe Fiasco? The Raconteurs? People really think the Black Kids will there?

Posted by Monklish | January 12, 2008 3:32 PM

way for everyone to believe the fake coachella lineup that has been circulating for about 2 months now

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2008 3:39 PM

Ooh. Who are the correct headliners and the missing big electronic name? Will My Bloody Valentine and Pulp and the Verve be playing?

Posted by Nehi Orange | January 14, 2008 4:40 AM

no and yes.

Posted by Monklish | January 14, 2008 4:26 PM

to clarify:

MBV: no
Pulp: no
Verve: yes
Portishead: yes (though you didn't ask)

Posted by Monklish | January 14, 2008 10:36 PM

Oh hey look... I said "They're thinking too young with the headliners."

and a few days later:

Posted by Monklish | January 14, 2008 11:36 PM

Thanx. No My Bloody Valentine or Pulp would be a gigantic let down! Plz tell me theres a surprise reunion to make up for that.

Posted by Nehi Orange | January 15, 2008 4:58 AM

Veteran acts? The Kinks and REM?

Posted by Nehi Orange | January 15, 2008 5:06 AM

no, not the Kinks.

Posted by Monklish | January 15, 2008 7:41 PM

Is that a yes for R.E.M.? What about love and rockets and prince?

Posted by Nehi Orange | January 15, 2008 7:55 PM

Rob from a comic strip's idiot brother.

Posted by Monklish | January 18, 2008 9:13 PM
