Kimya is the new Feist, @ Europa, Brooklyn, NY - Jan 16, 2008 (CRED)
Kimya Dawson @ Europa

If you were wondering why Kimya Dawson and Adam Green never ended up reuniting on the Conan O'Brien show....

Well, we said yes initially because I didn't realize what the situation still was with the strike. Then John Darnielle emailed me and told me what the deal was with Conan being forced back on and when I realized that no agreement had been reached with the writers, I cancelled. [Kimya Dawson to Gothamist]
Kimya played Europa last night, and Southpaw and Sound Fix right before that. More dates TBA, and at her MySpace.

She was good at Europa, but, what's up with sitting on the floor like fourth graders?

Whats up with sitting on the floor like fourth graders?
Look at the crowd, it's a bunch of geeky, tasteless women. If you've heard her music do you honestly expect anything else?

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 9:02 AM

didn't she used to do shows in a bunny suit or some such nonsense?
if her music was significantly less whack it would aspire to be bad twee. as it is...

"a bunch of geeky, tasteless women"

so what does that make you?

i liked that everyone was sitting on the floor, then we could all see. it's also not exactly music you dance to.
what a lovely show - kimya is great.

'kimya is the new feist'

idk, she's not quite as vanilla. kimya's sassy and says ballsack a lot. Love herrrr.

Wow that is some large ass she got there. As for her being the new Feist, easy there tiger.. Although any guy who went to one of these shows this week and was unable to get laid is either gay or a total loser. There must have been a ton of easy pickings there.

I love Kimya but she's such a namedropper!

Who gives a flying fuck what Kimya Dawson thinks about the writers strike?

It IS interesting to see which musicians are going on the shows despite the strike, and which ones are holding out with the writers. (Though you might not hear about most of the ones who said 'no'.)

seriously. how many pricks does it take to complete a series of brooklyn vegan comments?

Looks like a Cat Power at Hiro Ballroom show, imo.

I've been picketing Club Europa ever since Taco Bell on Manhattan Avenue closed. I'm disappointed Kimya crossed my picket line. Of course, my picket line is face down at the bar at Connie O's. Striiike!

Does anyone know the setlist? I had to leave at 23:30 - did she end up playing any Moldy stuff?

Posted by andi | January 17, 2008 12:53 PM

Thanks all for coming last night. Europa was briming with happy people and good feelings. Joly recorded the show and I bet it will be on punkcast within a week.

'kimya is the new feist'

thats the worst comparison ever.
feist tears it up on guitar, has crazy unique vocals and writes neat little verses. Kimyas great at what she does, loved her at southpaw last week, but the new feist? eh.

"thats the worst comparison ever."

iPod Ad is to Feist, as Juno is to Kimya. Feist is now very popular. Kimya is now very popular. That's all I meant, half-jokingly.

Feist is a boring cunt.

So's your mom

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 11:08 PM

holy shit. it's depressing that a band like the brother kite gets like 15-20 people there and she packs the place with her "antifolk" garbage. i guess all you need is some nice packaging and a hip reputation (even if people only heard about you two weeks ago) and people will flock to your music no matter how bad it is.
