Magnetic FieldsThe release season really gears up next week with discs by Cat Power, the Drive-By Truckers, the Whigs, and more, but this week's list has at least one standout CD. Stephin Merritt releases the latest Magnetic Fields disc, Distortion. Among the rest of the list, I can wholly recommend the Tyler Ramsey album, A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea.

Eels release a greatest hits disc (with two unreleased tracks), Meet the Eels: Essential Eels 1996-2006, Vol. 1, as well as a rarities compilation, Useless Trinkets: B Sides, Soundtracks, Rarities and Unreleased 1996-2007.

What new releases you picking up this week? What can you recommend?
