Neighbors Against Rock Concert Site vs Vineland Festival

NARCS

VINELAND -- Members of a group opposed to the Vineland Music Festival -- including a former City Council president -- are mobilizing the troops to try to block the event. Neighbors Against Rock Concert Site (NARCS) will hold an organizational meeting 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the New Italy Club in East Vineland.

The festival is scheduled for Aug. 8-10 on a 570-acre farm near Sherman Avenue and Hance Bridge Road. It is expected to draw 35,000 to 40,000 people over three days, many of whom will camp on-site, festival organizers said.

Local developer Pete Steenland and his daughter, Joy Marion, said they recently formed the group to let residents opposed to the festival have a unified voice. Both Steenland and Marion live next to the festival site. [The Daily Journal] (via)

this is why a festival will never happen anywhere near the northeast. if you cant even get a permit in a random huck town, where household income is less that $40,000, then you'll never be able to get one anywhere.

I hope the Vineland organizers learned from the mistakes of Field Day and have all of their permits.

While the killjoyness of it all is kind of depressing, gotta give them credit for having the huevos to call themselves NARCS.

Posted by Josh | January 3, 2008 7:19 PM

if a bunch of old people who hate music block my first chance to go to a festival I will be so pissed. Lining the Northeast sucks for festivals and really "NARCS". How can that be taken seriously?

Maybe if the promotors set up a tent where they play Johnny Mathis on a phonograph and reruns of JAG we won't be having a problem...

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 8:21 PM

Yeah, seriously it's all old people but I doubt there's enough of them to do something about it. They should be in an old folks home anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 8:39 PM

yeah, stoopid old people....so old and stuff. they were probably hipsters in their younger days...or maybe corporation owners who don't get our music.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 9:14 PM

i bet they wouldn't be complaining if daft punk were the scheduled headliners!

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 9:14 PM

R.I.P. Vineland music fest, it was a good idea while it lasted. old people just look for things to complain about. so much for a jersey festival, try Pennsylvania next time.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 10:17 PM

Based on what I've seen of the supposed tentative line up, it was a good call on the NARCS part.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 10:35 PM

Right, the supposed tentative lineup that some person who is against the Vineland Festival made up. Besides Rage I have not seen any bands that are expected to play(from credible sources, not people who post on here).

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 11:26 PM

to anon 10:35pm - the concert is in jersey because they couldn't get a deal done in time in philly. clearly the promoters didn't pay off the right people in the fairmount parks commission.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2008 11:54 PM

What is this alleged "tentative lineup"? Post it.

Posted by The Calculator | January 4, 2008 1:42 AM

"NARCS"?? I feel like I'm living in a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comic or something....

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2008 8:23 AM

Dave Matthews Band? Ratdog? Ugh.

Jeez, can someone post a link where I can join NARCS.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2008 8:24 AM

Can't they all just go on vacation that weekend?

Posted by Ed | January 4, 2008 8:37 AM

that website/MySpace thing posted a few lines up is some local fans...it's SO not an official site.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2008 10:16 AM

fucking guineas

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2008 10:49 AM

Just throw some money at the problem. Have these people never dealt with community opposition before? Make some promises, build some playgrounds and have your rock 'n' roll festival.

Points to the above poster, my father is a JAG zombie.

Posted by kiteless | January 4, 2008 12:04 PM

Well its really the mess it could cause vs the local economic boost. The locals mostly see inconvenience and annoyance. As always, when people are afraid.....they protest.

Doesn't look good but who knows. It certainly put Vineland on the map a little.

Posted by rockynotbullwinkle | January 4, 2008 10:06 PM

Perhaps a lot of these people remember the days of Woodstock and the mess that was made there.
You have to remember that Vineland is a very conservative place.
It would be great to see the concert materialize.
Perhaps some people who are "older" might have a good time, too.

Posted by linechick | January 5, 2008 8:58 AM

I live literally about 20 minutes away from where this festival is going to be, their main concern is drugs being trafficed through the already drug infested Vineland. Personally I am psyched, for this event, its our generation Woodstock.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2008 1:57 PM

economic benefits? o man im sure that all of those business that surround and are in walking distance of the proposed site are really going to see an economic boost from this baby- o wait there aren't any withing walking distance of the people that are going to be staying at the concert. The closest and easiest economic centers to the site are located in Millville people- Wal-Mart, Target, Acme and Shop-rite are all much easier to get to than the Vineland business district (or lack there of).

And I can promise you that NARCS isnt a bunch of old people, and to be honest isn't opposed to the concert, just the concert site and the underhanded and truly deceitful way in which the city went about setting this up.
They say that it will help the city and create something for the young people to do. Its one weekend, what about the other 51?
They say that it will be good for Vineland and help turn our city around but tell me this, will the concert fix the crime problem?
make the schools better?
fix the streets?
Will it make the city a place where my generation (yeah I'm 21) wants to move back to and raise our children?
I don't think so.
The concert and the corruption that has been exposed by it are not progress, at best it is a band-aid on a greater problem that Vineland faces- being a place where no one wants to go.

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 3:04 PM

so what's the problem with the concert? Is it going to make your city less a place that people want to move back to? Get a life you fucking pain in the ass loser. Relax... it's a concert. it's not about fixing the schools or streets. You are the typical, uptight, activist moron that joins these stupid groups like NARCS.

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 3:23 PM

haha thanks for showing everyone your intelligence level there browksi

NARCS - *sigh*
what a joke.

Just for that I hope they bring in Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Iron Maiden & AC/DC so these miserable assholes can't sleep the entire 3 days.

I think everybody should realize the greatness this festival is going to bring to our limp city!

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 2:07 PM

It's crazy, those uppity East Vinelanders have posters and signs up all over town trying to rally people behind them. Stupid Nimby's, they need to get a life so they can stop screwing up my summer plans.

Posted by Jennifer | January 16, 2008 8:56 PM

you must be from vineland if your whole summer is banking on one weekend- get a life

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 5:13 PM

morrissey took the money. smiths headline coachella.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 6:18 PM

Not from the area, but the people opposed to the festival should look at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Many people said the same things 30+years ago. The local communities and volunteer organizations worked together and made it into a great event for those attending and for the surrounding community.

Posted by anonymous | January 20, 2008 10:49 AM

Please, don't put down Ratdog, they are a great band. You're either obviously a little kid with no real knowledge or experience with rock 'n' roll or you're very narrow minded and probably shouldn't be going to any kind of music festival. I must agree though that Dave Matthews is corny. But Ratdog and DMB are worlds apart and if you disagree, you plainly know NOTHING about music. Also, little kids ranting about how this will be their first music festival will only harm the cause of getting this together. Do us a favor, focus on your high school textbooks and let the adults do the work here.

Posted by Frank n Stein | January 20, 2008 11:11 AM

Think you will probably find the lineup to be a bit similar to what Reading & Leeds festivals do. Allows the promoters to make offers based on all three..
My prediction? Rage/GreenDay/The Killers...

Just a guess.

Made a fansite for the festival as figure the organisers won't get one ready for months!
