How touching. "Sorry we can't help you, but if you ever get up near Williamsburg way, you give Mother Cat and me a call."

as you type away on you keyboard doing what?

Cat Power doesn't grab me as the humanitarian type, maybe she really has changed her ways...

Posted by Feline Energy | January 9, 2008 8:05 AM

her name is not "cat power". and, no, she doesn't strike me as the humanitarian-type either. More the insane, dramatic, lunatic-type. Great songwriter though.

I love the internet! Let's have a cynicism contest! Crosseyed Sniper the leader in the clubhouse!!!

She just wants to see what non-white people look like, since she's never seen one at any of her shows.

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 9:51 AM

hating on her for putting herself out there doing something positive is pretty childish. i guess she'd be "cooler" if she was getting drunk like amy winehouse? then you would post funny pictures of williamsburgers dressed up as her for halloween?

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 9:58 AM

uh i'm non-white and i go to her shows.

thanks for the social commentary.

Do you cynics even know what she is doing there? She is on a charity mission, bringing fresh water to villages that can not afford to build wells and must trek miles for a couple gallons of dirty creek water where people shit and animals die. She is also helping to build toilets that are sanitary and provide some privacy for these villages that can not afford the $150 to do so. This is far from the first charity work Chan has done. And as far as "non white people", as you so charmingly put it, have you ever been to cabbagetown in Atlanta, (one of the many southern towns in where Chan grew up)? So before you assholes start lobbing conjecture and cynicism, even if you do not like her music and stage performances, at least be grateful that someone is actually DOING something with the tiny amount of fame that they have, trying to bring dignity and a disease free way of life to people that could not possibly provide for themselves...that you so obviously take for granted. Do us all a favor, get out from behind your computer screen and volunteer for one day, one weekend, or one night to help someone less fortunate.....

I think it's nice Chan Marshall decided to bring crazy to India. They'll wonder how they did without it for all these years.

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 10:43 AM

Her name is Chan Marshall, not Cat Power. Get it right.

Posted by Anonymous | January 9, 2008 10:48 AM

why you guys breakin balls over the name?

of course bv knows her name is Chan. If he calls Flea "Flea" are you gonna break balls about his real name being Michael Balzary?

"She just wants to see what non-white people look like, since she's never seen one at any of her shows."

Good call by you. Might want to look up the band she's been working with these last few yers, however. They're- you know- non-white.

I don't think that analogy works....Cat Power started as a name for her group & she adopted it as a performance name be it with a group or not.. its not like she goes around off stage as first name Cat, last name Power while Flea or Bono, etc take that name off the stage with them publicly

it would be the same thing as calling jenny hoyston "paradise island," or victoria bergsman "taken by trees."

Michael Balzary is an even sillier name.

Cute kids, nice cause.

Though if you look at the BoD list for this group, looks like most of these execs are partly making up for doing high-paid work for some of the sleaziest corporations. Familiar story, I guess.

It appears that they spent a lot of time in Liberia in the past couple of years too. Have they hung out with Maya and Kimmie?

She looks like a pretty girl

Posted by Davis | January 11, 2008 8:21 AM

I'd let her build my toilet.

Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2008 1:03 PM

Just don't feed them and they won't need to use the toilet.

Anyway, thats probably something corporate types around at the World Bank might say.
