sorry...that show at battery park was way boring...

^^^^you are fucking crazy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 3:29 PM

I was at the Battery Park show (even recorded it). The show wasn't the greatest. I thought there was no connection between him and the band and between him and the audience. From what I heard afterwards, that band was his regular band. Great songs, average show (I wouldn't call it boring).

^^^^you are fucking crazy. the crowd was nuts.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 3:38 PM

Roky is also playing Maxwell's on March 2 - tickets on sale Wednesday at noon for that one as well.

Posted by edwyn the bear | January 14, 2008 3:47 PM

dude, the show was boring...his solo stuff is crap...just admit it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 3:58 PM

The Southpaw show last year was top shelf...

Posted by qweebaroo! | January 14, 2008 4:07 PM

Thanks for the heads up about Roky at Maxwells. Now that will be some show. As for the idiot above(anon 3:58pm) go away you fucking fool.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:08 PM

^^^^ you, sir, are an idiot.

his solo stuff his often better than the 13th floor elevators stuff. hardly anything in the 13FA catalog is as devastating as You Don't Love Me Yet or I Have Always Been Here Before or Night of the Vampire or... the list goes on.

you're probably one of those dumb "hipsters" i keep hearing about.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:11 PM

and by "^^^^^" i meant of course the hopeless gentleman (somehow i give the ladies more credit) at 3:58, and not, obviously, the fine individual at 4:08.

"Roky is also playing Maxwell's on March 2 - tickets on sale Wednesday at noon for that one as well."

updated, thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:18 PM

Oops, I meant to say "the band was NOT his regular band"

"you are fucking crazy. the crowd was nuts."

You sir, are the crazy one. Please stop being such a fanboy and realize that even great artists have bad shows. The crowd was nuts? There was one guy next to me screaming at everyone "why isn't anyone dancing? why is everyone just sitting?" The crowd near me (center stage, just behind the walkway) was obviously not nuts.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:27 PM

Anon 4:27pm, it is obvious you have an axe to grind or you are just seriously a fucking dope. All anyone has to do to see what kind of fool we have here is to do a search back on here to the posts after the show. As i remember it, people were raving at how good it was.
This poster is just some fucking schmuck who probably was not even there.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:35 PM

qweebaroo!
absolutely Southpaw was awesome.
I'll be at the maxwells show screw Webster Hall.

for the fool complaining "if you don't like Roky's songs what where you there for? Got to love someone who goes to see someone they don't like and then complain about it. Everyone has different tastes plenty of good music to go around.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 4:45 PM

the southpaw show was in the top 2 or 3 shows i saw last year. maybe top 2 or 3 in the last 5 years.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 5:11 PM

"This poster is just some fucking schmuck who probably was not even there."

Do you want the recordings that I made to prove that I was there? The quality is not the best (the venue did not allow taping so I had to use a hidden/small discreet stereo mic), so I never released it to the public.

I am not the same person that called the show boring. I love Roky, I prefer his solo material over the 13FE, but that show was not what I would call amazing. It was a good show, nothing special. Is it so wrong to say that Roky had an off night? Is Roky a sacred cow that must not be offended? Or maybe you don't go to many concerts and can't tell a good show from a great one? That said, I will be at the Webster Hall show. There are no sacred cows in rock, everyone makes mistakes.

I was at the Battery Park show. It sucked big ballz. Bo-o-o-o-o-o-oring indeed. I was waiting for Wavy Gravy to jump onstage or something. Just call 'em as I see 'em, not trying to provoke. But I do find it annoying that above super-fanboy can't understand everyone not bowing down to one of his apparent heroes. Get over it, not everyone has the same taste. It's just ONE person's opinion, no one's saying it's law. Duh.

Full disclosure though: was the first time I had ever heard his solo stuff. Last time too I hope.

Anon 5:17pm, I was at the show and I plus many others apparently from posts right after the show on here feel very differently than you. Yes many artists can have an off night. This was not one of them. The show was great and he was in fine form. And trust me i have been to many more concerts than you. Enough to know that of the upcoming 2 shows in NYC id rather go to maxwells as there is no comparison btw that and Webster.
As well, there were lots of tapers at the show. The venue was doing nothing to dissuade it. Plus(and i know this for a fact) one taper was patched into the board and recorded both Alejandro and Roky's sets. Those have not been made available to the public.

"trust me i have been to many more concerts than you"

most lame thing ever posted

Hmmm, let's see, you have at least 3 different people on BV that say the opposite. But I guess only your opinion is correct.

bitter bitch arent we?

Whose to say they are 3 diff people? They all posted Anon Why do you say they are 3 diff people? Because they said so? Hahaha
Plus I believe the guy was referring to the many posts after the show happened which you can go back and look at. As i remember it they were much much more glowing reviews than negative

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 10:02 PM

ok, let's set the record straight:

(1) Roky's music is awesome.
(2) 13FE's first two albums are the shit.
(3) Nevertheless, his solo material *is*, indeed, even better.
(4) I went to the Southpaw show last year. I thought it was very, very good, though not "amazing".
(5) Wasn't at the free show, but let me guess that it was most likely neither "boring" nor, to judge by the one show I did see, "amazing".
(6) I sympathize w/ fanboy's love for Roky, but, face it, your posts have been soooooo boneheaded.

so, to sum up: it seems there are boneheads on both camps here.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2008 10:20 PM

The true boneheads are the idiots on here from both sides that make assumptions that Anon postings are either from one specific person or many different people. The truth is you have no idea so when you speculate you look really stupid.

Oh really? Check out the link.

Heh, good job Nerd Anon 12:44am. I would say those comments were split. Who cares. I personally was at Southpaw and Castle Clinton. I loved both shows and thought they were great. I know the crowds at both were raucous and big time into it and loving it. Standing up and applauding loudly a number of times. Maybe you know someone who videotaped it for proof of this or you can work some of that nerd magic to go back in time.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2008 1:34 AM

I feel as if I need to step in here to try to make some sense of this all.

Posted by the perfect speciman | January 15, 2008 1:46 AM

"Who cares."

Apparently you do. You are convinced that those shows last year were amazing and anything that thinks otherwise is wrong. There are have been a few non-positive reviews, but in the end, only your opinion is correct. Everyone else is a fool.

Roky Erickson is a sacred cow and his name must not be soiled, if not the fanboys will be all over whining.

who is Rory Erickson? Honestly, Thurston is opening for some weird dudes recently, first Bright Eyes and now this.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2008 3:06 PM

First of all, Roky only had a couple of brief rehearsals with the band for the free show. His manager went ahead and booked him without checking with The Explosives, who were already committed for a couple of shows in Austin that week. The band he played with at the free show, Summer Wardrobe, simply put, ain't nearly as good, NOR do they possess the same chemistry with Roky, as The Explosives, who played with him for about 2-3 years back in the late 70s/early 80s. Roky himself wasn't pleased with the Clinton Castle show.

Tickets are on sale for Maxwell's and Webster Hall. I just scored tickets for the Maxwell's gig. Anyone else going?!

Posted by qweebaroo! | January 16, 2008 12:09 PM

Maxwell's is sold out...

Posted by qweebaroo! | January 16, 2008 3:00 PM

No one cares if you know who Roky is. Those who understand him appreciate him very much. Those who don't...who needs them.

Posted by Roky fan | January 17, 2008 11:37 PM

"Roky himself wasn't pleased with the Clinton Castle show."

How dare Roky talk bad about the Castle Clinton show! Roky was perfect and the crowd was nuts. This Roky reviewer is probably a dumb "hipster" and knows nothing about Roky. He is a fool for not liking the show. The show was perfect and this reviewer must not be a Roky fan. Roky is always perfect!

No and its fucked up cause originally he was listed as being the opener. Show will be great anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2008 1:44 PM

who's opening maxwell's?

Posted by Anonymous | February 29, 2008 2:54 PM

The openers at Maxwells -- The Ribeye Brothers -- rule.

For what it's worth.
