Yeah Catbirdseat "revealed" that 3 days ago

Ah! But whoever announced it 3 days ago jumped the gun by three days. It wasn't official until a few hours before that Billboard article appeared.
What do you think of that?

so now sub pop has 3 or 4 my morning jacket ripoff bands all under one roof!

it's been well over a coon's age since i've heard music so strikingly beautiful, original and honest.

Thanks mom.
And while I will say that My Morning Jacket is a good band, and there is gobs of reverb on them vocals on this stuff, I hope people will look past the superficial differences. Our songs don't ever get so rockin' and only two even have choruses. That Pus Bop agreed to sign us is quite literally the result of blackmail and the fact that Ben Gibbard is my dad.
Effervescently yours,
Head Fox

"I hope people will look past the superficial differences."
You mean, the superficial similarities.

three or four? assuming you're talking about both fleet foxes and band of horses [whose only similarities to my morning jacket are reverb and killer tunes], i'm still lost as far as naming the other one or two.
oh, i got it! and you're absolutely right: i totally agree that pissed jeans are pilfering jim james' songbook.

Finally, someone said it and it was Billboard. Take heed, the old songs are awesome the new stuff is just other stuff.

I did in fact mean superficial similarities. Thank you. And, as far as the old songs go, those were the writings of a foolish 19 year old. Though I guess the new songs are the writings of a foolish 21 year old.

Ignore the haters Fleet Foxes, you guys are making the most beautiful original tunes around. Congratulaions on the sign you deserve it. Your old tunes were great, the new ones are incredible. Love to you all.

did these kids grow up in the mountains? the songs are pretty but seem inauthentic. banner mountain peasant song? were they peasants? they dress up well like peasants.

To answer your q's. Not sure what "Banner Mountain" you mean, but Tiger Mountain is a place in Issaquah and that song is about my friend from there who had a rough go at it. Peasant is not self-referential there. We've lived fine lives and though two of us are semi-homeless and one still lives at home, we didn't grow up in the mountains and don't wish to give that impression. Just normal guys who maybe don't interact with the real world enough.
I don't know why I feel compelled to respond to these. This is my last one, promise.

This is such amazing news! Every single time I have ever seen that band they literally leave me stunned and looking forward to the next time I get to see them. I can't think of one other new band that has been this exciting in years. Can't wait to see what they do next.

I love this band. When are they playing New York?

"Anonymous" might be saddened to discover that the whole "guitar, bass, keys, drums and vocals" equation predates his beloved MMJ. No offense to those guys, great band, but Fleet Foxes are doing their own thing and are quite good at it. Anyone that has had the pleasure of seeing them perform can attest. Very seldom have I attended a show without being familiar with a band's material and been so moved. Not proselytizing, just saying, hold your band of horses there buddy.

i hope some of you who are into what connects bands like fleet foxes with horses and mmj are listening to Tulsa... two great EPs out. I was submerged a hint of an amazing record sure to come sometime in 08.
These bands are not like one another - they employ similar techniques... song structure, content ect. set them all apart from one another.
bands are just musical people or a conglomerate of musical souls, each has a personalty and story so unique and specific that if even as a casual listener you cannot detect this then you're missing the point i guess...
Foxes is the best thing I've heard this year... heartfelt thanks for making something to stumble upon.

Fleet Foxes' full debut Ragged Wood is stunning! Songs like Tiger Peasant Mountain Song, He Doesn't Know Why, Your Protector and Meadowlark are absolutely gorgeous. The album is gonna be huge by the end of the year.
