Super Furry Animals @ Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ - pics
photos by Leia Jospe
Super Furry Animals played their first of four NYC-area shows last night (Jan 23, 2008) @ Maxwell's in Hoboken....
It's been 9 years since the Welsh rock veterans Super Furry Animals have graced the Maxwell's stage. As Gruff Rhys recalls, he puked during the gig -- the only time he's done so. Nobody threw up tonight, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean the gig had it's share of strange moments. Maybe I'm not a hardcore or well-versed SFA fan, but I'm guessing the large helmet is part of the band's repertoire. it's like a cross between a Power Ranger and StrongBad. [Music Snobbery]More of Leia's pictures below....
Holy Fuck opened the show, and both bands play again at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tomorrow night (Jan 25). More tour dates HERE.

great show although the band was tired. Did they come back and play a second set? Or was that sign a joke?

Haha that was not Artie Lange. A guy who looked like him though. And yes Ira AND georgia were there as usual. Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth was there also.
Honestly, wow what a great show. Music Snobbery as usual is an idiot. It was really spectacular. They sounded amazing and beautiful. Maxwells of course was the perfect setting.
They played for 1 1/2 hours. Such a fun time.

I thought the show was just ok, I've seen them before and this performance kind of pales in comparison. They were jet lagged and Gruff didn't seem that into it. Nobody mentioned the Juxtaposed With U flub, they didn't stop playing the music because it was dubbed, funny stuff. The best part about it was that it was at Maxwell's.

They also played Do or Die. I think it was the 4th song.
