(the real) Gene Loves Jezebel - 2008 Tour Dates

Gene Loves Jezebel

The ‘real’ Gene Loves Jezebel featuring Jay Aston and founding members James Stevenson, Pete Rizzo with drummer Robert Adams is set to play a series of club dates across the country. The band has been touring extensively in the UK and is performing these select U.S. dates to re-claim their name and reputation from other versions of Gene Love Jezebel. A recent west coast tour in November 07 was a big success, prompting the band to return to the U.S. and expand the tour to include key markets nationwide.

Tickets are on sale for February 10th @ Knitting Factory. They're also playing The Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ. All dates below...

The "real" GLJ included Jay's brother Michael as well...not sure how this is more real than the original line-up that recorded their "hits".

Wikipedia says Michael owns the rights to the name, as well:

the point is, just because one is better than the other, doesn't give one more of the right to call themselves the "real" band. The "real" band featured both of them.

Sorry, I don't agree with you. There was one GLJ at the begining, Michael and Jay together. Michael left the band and Jay continued with the band members...so who's the real one? who left the band?
The real one is the one who kept together..the other one is a copy.
If Michael left the band, he should have created a new one, with another name, singing his songs, not using the name of the band he left and singing Jay's songs...

Listen, I have some suggestions. Ok, since Michael is no longer in Gene Loves Jezebel (in theory), as we do know that most of the original band members of said group are still performing, etc, under said moniker, leaving Michael with his own group (I personally thought Edith Grove wasn't a bad name to keep), and stewing in his hatred over the ordeal, maybe Gene Loathes Jezebel would be a good name...? Ya know, to avoid confusion. A yin/wanker kinda thing... sorry, yang. From what I recall, the name of the band originated from an independent film Jay was in called "Jezebel", and the "Gene Loves" bit was inspired by Michael (who injured his leg during a footie match at the time, and had walked with a limp like Gene Kelly danced... this is according to Jay from one source many years ago), it was obviously Jay who came up with the name, knowing Michael wouldn't've had enough of a sense of humor to make fun of himself. The evidence is right here on this message board. Pete Rizzo's comb-over, indeed.

Jay doesn't need to change the name of Gene Loves Jezebel. Michael Aston left the band, if he wanted to start a new one, HE should choose another name. He loves to confuse fans and people and attack Jay all the time. He should get a life and go on, instead of wasting time being evil.

Just to clarify, I was referring to ideas for Michael's band. When the real band asked me after a show once in the early 90's what I thought of "The Jezebels UK" for a new name, I begged them not to change it all. It's Jay's. It's them!
