Congrats VW, you have haters! Remember what that means...

Posted by hipster replacement | January 17, 2008 11:01 PM

Really looking forward to the Bowery Ballroom shows, it's so exciting to see a group when they are hitting the bigtime ... they're plenty good enough

"it's so exciting to see a group when they are hitting the bigtime"

If you find that exciting, your life is empty.

Posted by Basil N. Oregano | January 17, 2008 11:11 PM

I guess my life is empty, Mr Oregano

Posted by SaltnPepper | January 17, 2008 11:17 PM

You missed the Toronto date, BV. They're at The Horseshoe on Feb 11th, as evidenced below

self important, bourgeois shit ... music at it's worst. I would have expected more from Chris Baio

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 1:49 AM

its just music...nothing bourgeois about it!

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 2:27 AM

i like their music. some of the songs about life at Columbia or whatever are very 'eh eh' like please get over yourself, but for the most part i really like their sound and them. regardless of whether they're overrated or whatever.

Posted by Mandy | January 18, 2008 6:53 AM

i've never even listened to Vampire Weekend, but why do people feel the need to comment and trash a band they don't like....if you don't like them, let people who do enjoy them and skip over the post about it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 9:05 AM

absolutely the most horrifcally vanilla garbage to come down the pike since barenaked ladies.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 9:11 AM

re: bryan 8:58 PM

You've got little to no chance getting tickets to the Williams College show if you are not a student. They have a policy of selling to students first, even if they are selling tickets. Currier ballroom fits 100-150 people max. It's the basement of dorm.

i was completely indifferent to this band until this utter hatred began. it's so mainstream to hate them now that your cool if you like them.
true story

so now you like or dislike music based on other people's opinions? why not get your own brain, that would be awesome-o

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 10:32 AM

you're not, actually. but yeah, both the lovers and haters are just feeding the massive hype machine behind this vampire weekend by creating (largely pointless) discussion around vampire weekend, so way to go guys.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 10:38 AM

When did Ska music start making a comeback again? I didn't buy into it then, I'm not buying into it now.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 10:44 AM

Yeah, they are yuppies, but they aren't nearly as bad as that Juno shit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 10:47 AM

Not sure why the Fader covered them back in the day. It's all their fault. But don't hate Columbia! Ahem - plenty of interesting things going on there, sans weak hype riders like VW.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 11:04 AM

use my own brain? that's crazy talk how can i be a cool hipster better than everyone else bv poster if i do that. i have to see what everyone says is cool and like that but when too many people like it i have to hate it to be even cooler
and so on and so forth
that's how i became awesome-o

Posted by awesome-o | January 18, 2008 11:17 AM

No. Eric Cartman on south park was the pretend robot, Awesome-o. You're just a douchebag ripping off someone else's original idea.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 11:31 AM

true i am a ripoff artist but i am ripping off the persona of a too cool for school douchebag bv poster.
i'm off to find a thread to hate on the lameness of kate nash
awesome-o out

Posted by awesome-o | January 18, 2008 11:38 AM

You have been exposed, sir. Please kindly exit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 11:46 AM

and they're playing sxsw, they say.

Posted by sxsw | January 18, 2008 2:10 PM

vampire weekend = they might be giants

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2008 4:17 AM

Yeah, but not at all.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2008 11:08 AM

Big a Little A is amazing. Even better live than on record. Maybe the first commenter just hates life?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2008 1:27 PM

Just got back from the cd release show. It was pretty good. I had never listened to them until then, and I really don't understand the hate. Especially the Columbia thing. People love hearing about the wild word of drugs, sex, and rock and roll, but talk about where you really come from and you get haters. Hooray!

Posted by CrossTheAtlantic | January 29, 2008 1:28 AM

Why is Aa, the most exciting/interesting band in NYC playing with VW, the lamest band in NYC?

if fader never covered them, they'd all be i-bankers by now...true story.

i wonder if they will be playing their boarding school's 5 year reunion?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2008 3:37 PM

gotta finish up the tour before memorial day...have to be at my parents' house on the cape for the annual season kick-off bbq...maybe my dad will let me take the company helicopter there?

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2008 3:45 PM

Apunk is a great song to dance too. i can see how it would make the statuesque hipster concert goer extremely uncomfortable.

Posted by Kraft Dinner | January 29, 2008 5:02 PM

"it's so exciting to see a group when they are hitting the bigtime"

You are probably the same type of person that hates a band that gets big/signs to a major.

Indie cred! Indie cred!

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2008 5:53 PM

Wow, self righteous indie fucktards sure know how to dish it out.

You should see them live and then comment. Oh, that's right, you can't afford to get anywhere outside of Williamsburg. Shame.
