What's going on Tuesday?
(CRED)

I am watching Hillary Clinton in her victory speech in new Hampshire....they just threw a bunch of college kids behind her, and had her talk about student loans, and had her daughter come out for a long awkward hug...done anyone actually buy it? Surely young people are too media savvy to be fooled by this kind of shit.* EMI Confirms Up To 2,000 Job Cuts

Amen Win. Yes we can.

I'm a lifelong Democrat, and even I would have a hard time voting for Hillary in November. Go Obama!
Posted by Steve | January 15, 2008 4:50 PM
Win Butler doesn't have any experience as a musician pundit.
Posted by Hillary Clinton | January 15, 2008 4:56 PM
just goes to show you how Win Butler is not the sharpest nail in the shed. Yes I agree with him about Hillary but give me a break. Barack is a crook like all the rest of them. If you believe his "a new voice for fresh change" crap then you are not looking beneath the surface. He has a lovely exciting exterior but the guy takes a ton of money from special interest groups like everyone else.. And much of his voting in the Illinois legislature and congress were to back the groups that give him money. Sad but true

Close the blockquote! ;)
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2008 4:58 PM
I don't understand why so many people view Obama as someone capable of running the country (never mind as a savior) when he's been in the U.S. Senate for only what, two years?
P.S. BV, please fix that blockquote tag!

Isn't Win Canadian (ie, not unlike someone in the UK chiming in)?
Why no stupid puns?
"Iowa winner wins Win's support."

The minister in "There will be blood" was a total Win Butler ripoff

DAFT PUNK FOR PRESIDENT
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2008 5:08 PM
Wow--Now instead of having just the pleasure of hearing Win's simple-minded and overbearing lyrics, we get to enjoy his simple-minded and overbearing political analysis. Win, please stop writing anything until you sharpen your skills.

win is from texas and went to exeter. he's as much from canada as you people are from brooklyn.

I get what he says to a certain extent but Obama and Clinton have almost the exact same policy ideas! I don't quite get how people think his presidency will be a huge departure from hers. Anyway, if the Dems don't maintain control of Congress neither will have an easy go of it.

hey 5:03 I was thinking the very same thing during the movie!

"win is from texas and went to exeter. he's as much from canada as you people are from brooklyn."
SNAP! And like it or not, a lot of countries are more affected by who the US elects than who they themselves elect.
Case in point: if the economic downturn in the US is mismanaged by the powers that be, Canada (and many others) too will most definitely slip into a recession. So yeah, we care who gets elected.

Daft Punk for President of my house!!
Posted by anon | January 15, 2008 6:28 PM
Another political comment from an idiot musician that provides no insight. Just rhetoric. In a politicians mind, he/she is successful if re-elected. And Obama is no different. And by no means is this guy ready to lead the country.

C'mon, Obama is the quintessential politician. The only reason anyone knws who he is and why hes running for Pres. is b/c hes a great speaker, nothing more. Stop being so gay for Obama and get over yourself. As long as SOME democrat wins it all in November its all good. Supporting one candidate so hard during the primaries only hurts us all.
Posted by west | January 15, 2008 9:42 PM
Dennis Kucinich all the way. he's the only true liberal.
Clinton and Obama are both conservative d-bag's!

"C'mon, Obama is the quintessential politician."
I agree 100%. Obama was forced to admit during interviews that he would be for his socialist programs by increasing taxes, especially capital gains. If you go to his website, there is not one mention of raising taxes. Typical politician.

what date does daft punk vote in the primaries?
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2008 11:35 PM
ROMNEY!!

as long as it isnt rudy ' i was the mayor of new york during 9/11- THATS my policy'.' Gulliani the world will be a nominally safer place.
Also whats with America declaring places to be the biggest threat to world peace- Bush said it was iran on sunday, and today a foreign minister said it was the whole of Europe...

I'm waiting for the Daft Punk endorsement before I make my mind up
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 9:16 AM
Obama wants people to think he's like Arcade Fire. Hillary wants people to think she's like U2. Edwards wants people to think he's like Bruce Springsteen.
I'm waiting for the candidate that wants to be Merzbow! (though I'd settle for the Crass or Public Enemy or something).

Seconded.
Kucinich is the only truely progressive candidate.

Wait, why aren't musicians allowed an opinion? I agree that comments from entertainers are obnoxious due to their volume, but as a single occurrence, what's so wrong with this guy speaking up? Isn't that what you're doing? Dare I say: "Free Country"? (and yes, a sarcastic retort in "quotes" to my comments is horribly predictable)
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 10:32 AM
I really can't decide between Clinton and Obama, but the Hillary-bashing is getting really old. I think she's done a great job of representing New York in the Senate.
Also, I just realized Arcade Fire sound a LOT like Echo & the Bunnymen. Not that that's a bad thing. They just do.

I agree with Win wholeheartedly. I also agree with Steve above - I am an Independent but I align with the Democrats, and there is no way in hell that Hillary will ever get my vote. No more dirty politics, it's time for change.
Yes, Obama is a politician, but he's already been shown to appeal to Dems, Independents, and Republicans alike. That sounds like change from the divisive politics of the past 16 years (and beyond) to me. Yes, we can!

can someone please explain to me what everyone hates about hillary? what she ever did wrong to piss so many people off? cause theres nothing wrong with her politics. yeah the GOP vilified her, but did they actually succeed in turn the nations youth against her as well? and let's not forget she was one of the first people to push universal health care in this country, long before it became fashionable.
bill maher said it best:
You may not want Hillary Clinton for President, but there's absolutely no reason anyone has... would ever have to hate this person. You may not say she inspires you, but there's nothing hateable about Hillary Clinton. If you hate Hillary Clinton, it is so about you."
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 11:34 AM
this isnt about hating hillary, it's about liking obama a LOT more. neither of them would be a bad president, but i think the overall concensus (among younger people, at least) is that obama just has something that hillary does not. whether it's the ability to inspire, or the likability factor, there is something there. i believe him when he talks, and that is extremely important.
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 11:41 AM
Obama = Taxes
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 11:54 AM
I'm really wary of these superficial, emotional responses to Obama. A lot of people found Bush likeable and trustworthy. I might still vote for him but I don't trust his supporters. Especially the ones who say they'll NEVER vote for Hillary, even if she wins the nomination. That's just childish.
Posted by pickles | January 16, 2008 12:06 PM
rich pigs should pay more taxes.
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 12:08 PM
You've gotta be kidding me. I'm sure any Dem will raise taxes on the rich way before hitting the middle class. And we NEED to pay some taxes. Do you have any idea how much debt our "conservative" government has saddled us with?
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 12:09 PM
it's childish because most of obama's supporters are just that...children.
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 12:15 PM
"but i think the overall concensus (among younger people, at least) is that obama just has something that hillary does not. whether it's the ability to inspire, or the likability factor, there is something there."
Younger people have shown over and over again that cant be bothered to vote, so to capture the youth vote is fairly meaningless. And I say that as someone who has donated to the Obama campaign and met the guy. But I would vote for Hillary and be happy with her as president-I dont get hating her so much that you are willing to stay home and let another Republican be president. And if you look at their economic policies, she's actually more liberal than he is.
And who cares about likeability? Seriously. You're not going to party with these people.
