just got this:
---
At 4:00pm Sunday, January 27, 2008 the doors of 475 Kent Avenue will be padlocked. Please join us for a solemn observance of the shuttering of a great arts community.
Come and show your support for the 200+ displaced tenants of 475 and the live/work community as a whole.
There will be Press Conference at 4:30pm
This is not a protest. It is a witness. Hundreds of tenants and supporters expected.
It is a peaceful demonstration of solidarity and proof that the world is watching the City of New York's attitude towards its creative citizens.
THIS NOT A PROTEST, THIS IS A SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR THE TENANTS AND OTHER RESIDENTS IN LIVE WORK SITUATIONS ACROSS THE CITY.
Where:
475 Kent Avenue (corner S.11th Street)
South Williamsburg
Brooklyn, NY 11211
Please do NOT congregate at the front door. Gather across the street.

What's the point of posting that Avey and Kria picture? The show was a week ago, you didn't review it or post anything about it until now, and even now there's nothing else but a picture. The photo is also not particularly flattering to either of them.

can you elaborate on what made 475 kent an "arts community?" so far all ive found out that it was a potentially combustible matzoh factory...

Anon. 3:00 AM, do a news search. I found the NY Times article to which I have placed a link in my signature. (It doesn't really answer your specific question, though.)
I say blame (and sue) the landlord, not the City.

I take that back. I just did a little more reading on the Web and there are claims that the City is treating the 475 Kent situation underhandedly. So sue the City, too.

Screw the hipsters at 475 Kent. Maybe now they will move back to Ohio.
What part about "illegal habitation" don't these hipsters understand? Illegal means against the law. Duh.

Shadow, Cut Chemist, Double D & Steinski were insanely great last night.
Is it me, or are the security at Irving Plaza much nicer than before? They seem to have gotten cooler.
