Coachella 2006 (CRED)
Daft Punk is Playing in My House

The list the LA Times came up with so far is below...

Death Cab for Cutie

The Breeders

Justice

Jens Lekman

Junkie XL

The Verve

UNKLE

Cold War Kids

Chromeo

Autolux

Spiritualized

Portishead

VHS or Beta

Dan Deacon

Brett Dennen

The Cinematic Orchestra

Battles

Kid Sister

Crystal Castles

Louis XIV

"Next week, you can expect an announcement of the roster, which I was told cryptically might include a surprising veteran act or two (not David Bowie) -- and will not include the rumored set by the reunited My Bloody Valentine. Meanwhile, message boards and blogs are bursting with names of the acts heading to Indio for the April 25-27, 2008 festival, but precious little information has leaked regarding headliners." [LA Times]

i bet it's talking heads (or at the very least, a david byrne solo set).

it would explain the inexplicable pushing back of his wordless series solo show here at least

cold war kids AGAIN

UGHHH

At what time did that girl's ass fit properly in those Daft Punk shorts?

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:25 PM

I hear the legendary act is going to be Led Zepplin

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:31 PM

i hear Prince is a headliner...and mixed things about Radiohead as well. I can never understand how these things stay under wraps for so long??

Someone has to have credible info???

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:31 PM

no Talking Heads. the robots are coming back, though.

Posted by Monklish | January 16, 2008 4:31 PM

Cold War Kids and VHS or Beta together at last??????!!!!!!??????

HOLY SHIT FUCK YES I AM SIKED!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:34 PM

Prince

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:35 PM

Not a bad line-up, but i think a lot of those acts would suck at an outdoor huge venue

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:35 PM

I don't mean to be a spammer or anything, but I'm keeping a list of all the rumored acts, not just Coachella, on my blog. There are a few more confirmed acts than what the LA Times printed.

http://consequenceofsound.com/summer-festival-outlook/

Thanks Brooklyn Vegan for letting me post this.

Posted by Alex | January 16, 2008 4:38 PM

I heard it was the Beatles.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:38 PM

Gogol Bordello is definitely playing. And I have heard that the veteran act is Led Zeppelin. I know for a fact that Zep was offered tons to do the show and that they were seriously considering it. I'm just not sure if they finally agreed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:39 PM

Roger Waters

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:43 PM

are we supposed to be excited by this list?

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:46 PM

hot chip will be returning. giddy up.

Posted by bobby the rookie | January 16, 2008 4:50 PM

pretty sure Holy Fuck

Posted by pugatch | January 16, 2008 4:50 PM

radiohead said no to coachella so no more rumors.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 4:55 PM

But who's playing in your pants, baby?

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 5:01 PM

Why would Justice play again? I heard 10 secs of that DANCE song and I was like this is what typical Brooklyn hipsters listen to and think its good....on the other hand, please please GV hopefully you gotten handful of these bands listed below....
1) The Strokes (new cd coming out soon)
2) Muse (They're playing in Africa at the end of March and supposed to be one of the headliners for Glastonbury this year)
3) Beck
4) No Doubt (from SoCal....probably huge draw with a new cd coming out)
5) Weezer (new cd coming out in April....but they haven't done anything special since Pinkerton so if you play just the Blue album/Pinkerton, Please PLAY!)
6) Outkast (They need to start playing shows again!)
7) Modest Mouse (will start recording new materials next month...maybe we'll see them play couple new songs?)
8) Mars Volta (hopefully in the Sahara Tent!)
9) Broken Social Scene (They're touring Australia/Japan in March then playing ATP festival in May)
10) Chemical Brothers/Underworld (One of them will definitely play the Sahara Tent)
11) PJ Harvey....pleaseeeee!
12) Bright Eyes (just so some people can bitch)
13) The Faint (in the Sahara Tent!)
14) Blur (They need to start playing again!)
15) Tom Waits (pleaseeeeeeee)

NO way that Talking Heads will play....only in my dream....

Please Please....

No REM, No Oasis, No Coldplay or No the Verve (although I think the Verve will headline one of the days)

Who will reunite? or make a big return?????
1) Boards of Canada?
2) Godspeed You! Black Emperor?
3) The Libertines?
4) Fugazi (I wish....)
5) The Psychedelic Furs
6) Swervedriver
7) Stone Roses
8) Husker Du
9) A Tribe Called Quest
10) The Replacements

Hopefully Coachella 2010 will have....
1) Pavement
2) Desaparecidos
3) At the Drive In
4) Neutral Milk Hotel

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 5:13 PM

Some good bands in there....I'm also hearing Tegan & Sara and My Morning Jacket.

Prince would be SICK.

Either way, I'll be there!

The Strokes don't have a new album out soon, Albert Hammond Jr does.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 7:17 PM

Posted by jeoff | January 16, 2008 9:07 PM

The robots are probably never going to play again.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2008 10:29 PM

Posted by Starrdogg | January 17, 2008 12:56 AM

WORST

LINEUP

EVER

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 2:50 AM

Monklish, are you serious about Daft Punk? I thought they said no touring in 2008. Will R.E.M. or Prince play? What about PJ Harvey and Asobi Seksu?

Posted by Nehi Orange | January 17, 2008 5:44 AM

not so into that lineup - tough to match last years though...

...will be nice to change it up with another festival - maybe not in the sweltering heat.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 8:10 AM

maybe the person who claimed this to be the WORST LINEUP EVER should wait until the real lineup has been announced?

just a thought.

every year we get tons of speculations, and every year the actual lineup proves itself to be superior. even if that's not the case in one person's eyes, there are always enough acts to satisfy anyone. you can't possible see everyone there anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 9:06 AM

Anonymous @ 4:31:

If you're going to comment with Led Zeppelin, learn how to fucking spell the band's name correctly.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 9:30 AM

festivals suck

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 9:34 AM

Puma girl's gotta be from Germany. They do have the worst fashion and are pretty much dorks.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 9:45 AM

HEADLINERS REVEALED!

FRIDAY:
R.E.M.
KANYE WEST
THE CHEMICAL BROS

SATURDAY:
COLDPLAY
DAFT PUNK
THE VERVE

SUNDAY:
PRINCE
PORTISHEAD
JUSTICE

Posted by Oracle | January 17, 2008 12:10 PM

Oh come on, how can you say it's the worst lineup ever? That's like 1/3 of the bands who are actually going to play it. No headliners have been announced, and Goldenvoice always has a last minute surprised or two lined up(see Jesus & Mary Chain, Happy Mondays and Crowded House last year). That list I posted up above should be viewed as just a taste of what Coachella '08 is going to be.

Posted by Starrdogg | January 17, 2008 1:13 PM

almost as bad as 2006

Posted by kate | January 17, 2008 1:38 PM

Daft Punk aren't playing Mr Oracle. Also, your headliner choices are mostly just wrong, for lack of a wittier term.

Posted by Monklish | January 17, 2008 1:50 PM

In reply to the replies to my "WORST LINEUP EVER" comment:

It was a joke, dumbasses.

Posted by Anon. 2:50 AM | January 17, 2008 1:55 PM

i gotta be honest, the pic of the girl in the shorts is getting me randy.

Posted by Jonny#5 | January 17, 2008 3:30 PM

first monklish says daft punk will return and now he says they wont. which is it?

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 3:35 PM

Don't libel me.

Posted by Monklish | January 17, 2008 3:57 PM

you told anon1029 that he/she was incorrect about daft punk not returning. you libeled yourself there, buddy.

Anon1029: "The robots are probably never going to play again."

Monklish: "Anon1029, you are incorrect"

the only way you could say for certain that daft punk never returning is incorrect is if you knew they were, in fact, returning. so which is it?

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 4:23 PM

You, as well. Don't libel me.

Posted by Monklish | January 17, 2008 4:50 PM

your quote, your libel. so who will headline then?

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 5:29 PM

Lineup to be announced Monday.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 5:41 PM

I heard Coldplay, Prince, and No Doubt are headlining.

Posted by Mulana | January 17, 2008 10:14 PM

bleh. thus far, bleh.

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 10:42 PM

ABBA!

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2008 11:01 PM

Who is playing Coachella (proper)?

There, fixed your headline, BV.

Posted by You're welcome | January 17, 2008 11:04 PM

Fuck No Doubt

Posted by new post | January 17, 2008 11:31 PM

You people are fucking ridiculous! Your choice of bands and dream bands are lame and tired.I'll give you Tom Waits but No Doubt and fucking Modest mouse.Screw it You can take your gay little festival with your throwback fake ass disco bands and pompous rock star poses and shove it up your asses.Spend your money on Zappa Lps and PCP.

Posted by REO Speedwagon | January 18, 2008 12:45 AM

I could swear that this was rather straightforward. AnonMidnight gets it. That is it. Goodness:

Myself -- Anon1029, you are incorrect.

epic fail. you just quoted yourself saying both that the robits will return and then later that they are not playing. do you even know the meaning of the word "contradiction?" so which is it? You said they are returning and that they are not playing, and it is not possibile for a band to both return and not play.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 9:20 PM

Staggering.

Posted by Monklish | January 18, 2008 10:09 PM

Invest in Daft Punk. They've painted the entire market into their corner.

Posted by Monklish | January 18, 2008 10:09 PM

"the robots are coming back, though." = "Daft Punk aren't playing Mr Oracle"

unless u are talkin bout other robits. but this is the daft punk blog.

Posted by Anonymous | January 18, 2008 10:25 PM

The veteran acts are Journey and Hall & Oates!

Posted by MC P. Tollett | January 19, 2008 11:27 AM

Portishead to headline Saturday night, according to URB:
http://www.urb.com/permalink/2140/Heads-Radio/Portis-for-Coachella-East/West.html

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2008 6:00 PM

Clearly, I was talking about the German robots that comprise Kraftwerk. Lineup comes out tomorrow, so how about we spare secrecy.

The Roger Waters rumors are true, as well.

No Journey or Hall & Oates, but surely you were having the piss with that.

Portishead is in, but apparently, they're headlining, now? I don't believe everything I read, though.
