Is it me or that one lameass lineup?
Posted by Adam | February 21, 2008 5:11 PM
yeah, that is a pretty poor showing. so much for a solid east coast festival.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:13 PM
your right
a chance to see radiohead, girl talk, animal collective, and the go! team is lame.
jesus, wait for the full lineup and then complain.
and can you really complain with two back to back nights of radiohead?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:16 PM
horrible lineup...
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:17 PM
$89 is also a joke too!
Posted by qweebaroo | February 21, 2008 5:17 PM
Lets see-this is 89 bucks and chances are that Jack Johnson is headlining one show and you think this is a good lineup. I like some of the bands, Grace Potter and Jason Isbell, in particular but this bill is the poorest out of any festival the last couple of years.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:20 PM
$89 is a joke? i would pay that much to see radiohead alone. you people are crazy.
Posted by jason | February 21, 2008 5:21 PM
$89 is cheaper than a single Kanye West show.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:21 PM
Fucking stop your bitchin' and don't go. Better yet, you'll bitch all the way as you PATH your ass to Jersey and up having a perfectly hipster night. Jeez...the view of the city is sooo pretty.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:24 PM
damn, i'm still going the 1st 2 nights but definitely thought this was going to be a lot better.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:30 PM
Uh, is that it? That can't be it. That's, like, half of one day of Coachella.
Posted by zik | February 21, 2008 5:31 PM
gotta be more bands
come on! (GOB)
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:34 PM
$89 is more than worth it to see Radiohead. I'd pay 10 times that. If you've never seen them, its worth all the money you have.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:35 PM
so basically...im seeing radiohead for 90 bucks twice...with a girl talk set somewhere in between (unless its sunday...cuz fuck that shit...nobodys paying 90 bucks for that garbage.
and ps...whos cock has jack johnson been slobbering all over to get all these headlining gigs? are people fuckin serious??
anyway. this is gay...but at least i know Radiohead will play 2 nights in nyc area. so...woohoo (i guess)
Posted by ripped off and let down...but still psyched | February 21, 2008 5:35 PM
people
it says initial...pay attention to the details...did you guys go to nyu or something ?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:36 PM
Fuck
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:36 PM
can you spell t-y-p-i-c-a-l?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:37 PM
Considering there is only one stage, I highly doubt many more bands will be announced. So far there are 36 bands. That is 12 per day, way more for a one stage event.
The price for a single ticket will be over $100 with fees. I rather just see Radiohead in a different city and avoid this mess.
Who will buy a three day pass with Jack Johnson headlining? Especially since the savings of a 3-day pass are only $9. Nine dollars!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:37 PM
ooops...and animal collective. YAY
Posted by ripped off and let down...but still psyched | February 21, 2008 5:37 PM
"More than 40 acts will appear on three stages "
Posted by J | February 21, 2008 5:38 PM
I'm siked about Amadou & Miriam
Posted by Jeremy | February 21, 2008 5:39 PM
Strolling around in the sun and checking out bands without all kinds of stress will be such a terrible time. You're all so right. Fucking relax.
If you're going to bitch, bitch about the fact that you only save $9 if you by a three-day pass as opposed to three single passes. That's lame.
Posted by James | February 21, 2008 5:39 PM
didn't think it was possible to have a worse lineup than Bonnaroo. congratulations APW.
Posted by FRX | February 21, 2008 5:39 PM
Thank god no fuckin Daft Punk.....only Radiohead will matter for 2008......yes!!!!!
Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | February 21, 2008 5:40 PM
Anon 5:37-- it says there are 3 stages, so PLENTY of room for other bands.
I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they will announce a fair amount of other mid-tier bands and sub headliners (a la Animal Collective, Cat Power, Roots, New Pornographers etc.
Whatever, two nights of Radiohead. I'm there.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:40 PM
anonymous 5:35...you are gay. pay me 900 dollars for my extra fag!
Posted by gay for anonymous 5:35 | February 21, 2008 5:40 PM
if its multi-stages then there has to be more bands right?
right?
right????
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:41 PM
What's up w/ only saving like $10 on a 3 day pass?
Posted by Eric | February 21, 2008 5:41 PM
if it says "More than 40 acts will appear on three stages", and there are 36 there, then I guess there are 4 more TBA.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:48 PM
What time is Daft Punk announced as an additional headliner?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:48 PM
"there are 4 more TBA."
sorry, should be "there are MORE THAN 4 more TBA"
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:49 PM
Do you think they'll announce Nas? I figure he'd be playing alot of gigs to promote his new CD. I'm trying to look it up, anyone have the title?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:52 PM
hopefully animal collective is not playing on jack johnson's day
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:52 PM
Anyone else think that the math doesnt add up?
40 acts over 3 days= 13 acts per day
13 acts a day over 3 stages = 4 acts per stage per day.
so everyone gets a 1.5hr set? cant be.
Posted by A Roach | February 21, 2008 5:53 PM
Tip of the iceberg...
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 5:56 PM
Radiohead live is pretty sweet but this line-up does not compare to any of the other major festivals and the NY area really deserves better. Sure, the live music scene in NYC is great - no complaints there. But there's something special about outdoor festivals - a vibe you can't get from tiny clubs. Not necessarily better, but different. And it's frustrating that as a New Yorker I have to fly all over the country to go to a decent festival. I thought this would be the answer but barring some incredible Portishead/My Morning Jacket level add-ons, it's not shaping up that way.
Posted by fo rizzy | February 21, 2008 5:57 PM
My fault for saying only one stage. I didn't read the full post and I was thinking back to the original Radiohead shows in 2001.
Why can't Randalls Island get more festivals again?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:03 PM
They'll probably have 2 stages side-by-side so that each set starts shortly after the previous set ends, and then a side stage for the smaller acts. So there would, in effect, only be 2 sets going on at a time. Just speculation, but I've seen other festivals done this way and it seems to fit given the caliber of non-headliners (or lack thereof).
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:11 PM
Jack Johnson has the #1 album in the country. He has incredibly strong touring history. The real question is whose dick have these promoters been sucking to get him to play their festivals. Just because he exists outside of your frame of reference, and his music is middle-of-the-road (and yeah, pretty fucking lame), doesn't mean that it's dumb to book him. If you don't care about him, don't go on Sunday. Seems easy enough to me. Leave those tickets for the Jack Johnson fans and save your money. I'm sure there's a fun show at McCarren Pool or something.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:12 PM
your vegas is soooooooo bad. how can they be on any bill ever?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:13 PM
I hope they tell us who is playing on what day before tickets go on sale.
Posted by nyctaper | February 21, 2008 6:15 PM
fingers crossed for the PHISH reunion!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:15 PM
girl talk is a bozo with a laptop, why does anyone give a shit?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:19 PM
holy expensive. they must be trying to get money back for low coachella ticket sales.
this isnt the weekend experience i thought it would be. who puts a band on two nights in a row as headliners?
and is that a 9 dollar savings for getting the whole 3-day pass as opposed to a individuals? thanks
Posted by rumkeg | February 21, 2008 6:22 PM
you people are freaking idiots. it's the INITIAL line-up. that means way more bands are going to be announced.
honestly, maybe you should go. clearly you all need to learn a thing or two about the logistics of music festivals.
Posted by uhm. | February 21, 2008 6:30 PM
I understand it's only the initial lineup, but normally they announce a few great bands in the initial lineup, then some more later on. But only Radiohead is the standout band in that list. Girl Talk? Give me a break.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:34 PM
I wouldn't expect a ton more bands. They've already got the official poster up at www.myspace.com/apwfestival (yes I know it can be changed, but it doesn't look like they are going to add 20 names to it or anything).
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:36 PM
Shit, I hope the New Pornographers do a show of their own in NYC sometime this year. Otherwise, I hope it rains on you motherfuckers.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:37 PM
why all the hate? you guys do realize Black Kids are playing?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:44 PM
^ 3 up:
i disagree. there is a LOT of empty space on that poster, and you can tell they had to stretch w/ the fonts.
i'd expect quite a few bands, esp if they want to justify 3-days (with 3 stages!) and a $260 ticket
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:51 PM
ok stop bitching and complaining....im sorry your sorry ass shitty bands such as justice and MIA aren't playing but if you don't like the fact that Radiohead is playing two nights then go cry and listen to your daft punk mixes till they come back in 2 years.
Posted by for all the hipsters | February 21, 2008 6:52 PM
why in NJ? I hate New Jersey. worse state in the Union. This festival is going to be dominated by drunk, high, belligerent guidos and irish fratboy Jersey trash jerks and NJ japs. I'm sure Radiohead will be pleased with all the fratboy mosh pits and brawls that drunk guido NJ trash will start.
Posted by NJ Hater | February 21, 2008 6:53 PM
Regarding "slow ticket sales" at Coachella, single day tickets are sold out.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 6:53 PM
Well, add me to the chorus of people who think this is a pretty WEAK line-up. Outside of Radiohead, I don't think I would pay to see a single act. Maybe Girl Talk. But I'd consider him more of a bonus than anything.
That said, $89 isn't THAT bad. I'm in agreement that the line-up stinks, but for the amount of (shitty) bands (plus Radiohead), it seems fair.
And yes, Anon@5:35pm is a stupid asshole. NO BAND is worth $900, you dumbass fucking hipster.
Posted by Matt | February 21, 2008 6:58 PM
put animal collective on the first day and i might purchase one ticket
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:02 PM
Why should NJ guidos have the chance to see Radiohead? why aren't Radiohead playing in New York? we need to close all the bridges and tunnels from NJ to keep out all the trash.
Posted by NJ Hater | February 21, 2008 7:04 PM
Why does it matter which day Animal Collective plays (besides the fact that they would have to be on a Radiohead day).
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:04 PM
"a chance to see radiohead, girl talk, animal collective, and the go! team is lame."
Outside of Radiohead, those bands you list are all pretty obscure and not all that good. Indie bloggers will claim otherwise, of course, to make sure everyone knows they "know their indie music," but um, Girl Talk and Go! Team are pretty lame.
Radiohead better be playing other NYC-area dates other than this one.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:06 PM
have fun getting robbed in Jersey City
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:12 PM
Hey, why can't NJ guidos like radiohead? Go eat some vegetables.
Posted by NJ Guido | February 21, 2008 7:15 PM
Ugh. I was looking forward to more electronica acts, or at least some Santogold.
This lineup is disappointing, very disappointing.
I mean, where's The Chemical Brothers, where's Kraftwerk, Justice, Kavinsky, etc.
This lineup needs at least 20 more acts, and out of them at least 4 that I'd want to see.
So far, Radiohead, Underworld and Kings of Leon are the only bands I'd want to see.
That's 3 out of...36?
1/12.
Nice.
Posted by madmang | February 21, 2008 7:17 PM
fuck off jack johnson, jesus christ
why don't you play every fucking festival this year? asshole.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:21 PM
$89 for a Radiohead show where animal collective opens
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:21 PM
jack johnson, the promoters, and 6:12 are all sucking my cock. there's still some room on the shaft and one spot left on the ass side of the balls. please leave your name, number, and preferred spot. thank you.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:22 PM
we should all be able to agree that radiohead is worth the money, tickets to see them in va are going for $200 each. maybe if cat power and neil halstead were playing on radiohead days it wouldn't be so disappointing. but when they announced they would do a bona fide festival at liberty state park with radiohead headlining, i think we all assumed it would be much more enticing a lineup than this.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:24 PM
"When does Daft Punk get announced as additional headliner?"
We can only hope, can't we...
Posted by madmang | February 21, 2008 7:24 PM
Single-day tickets at Coachella didn't "sell-out", they just severely limited the quantity this year to drive up the ridiculously overpriced three-day passes.
Posted by zik | February 21, 2008 7:24 PM
Ok, this is not a festival like Coachella. There are indeed three stages but the two big ones are side by side and switch off. There will be a third stage for smaller acts across the park. That's it. No more than 45 acts total. It says on the ads more than 40 acts. Why are people saying they are going to add a ton of acts? Hey idiots, read a little!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:25 PM
Goldenvoice have basically built a festival around the second leg of the Radiohead US tour... then tacked on the Jack Johnson Sunday Show!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:31 PM
re: NJ Guido 7:15pm, seriously no offense but guidos are lame and everything they touch becomes stupid. I can totally see a bunch of NJ guidos running around being a-holes the whole weekend, acting like beligerent jerks during the show, elbowing people, etc. and then go back to their pathetic pizza eating, techno listening lives. they are a waste of space at a Radiohead concert.
Posted by NJ Hater | February 21, 2008 7:31 PM
wow this festival stinks worse than jersey city
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:36 PM
Are they going to post what days the acts are going to be on before the tickets go on sale? Or does anyone know?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:37 PM
the day lineups are on the website.
animal collective opening up for radiohead on day2? AWESOME.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:38 PM
all info up now. check out the official website:
www.apwfestival.com
there really is no reason to show up on sunday.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:40 PM
All of this grousing is very funny. I really don't think that there's any possible lineup that could've been announced that didn't lead to everyone crying out with hatred and disappointment. The babies who love bitching on this blog might have a little credibility if they tempered some of the hatred with even-keeled thoughts or some eloquent appreciation (or not). Where does all the hatred and bitterness come from?
Regarding this festival...figure that Radiohead tickets at MSG would have been $75-$125...this seems like it's really not so outrageous. $100 for Radiohead + 20 other bands per day. Maybe there are 2 bands in addition to Radiohead that you really want to see. Sounds like a fine day to me. If you still can't stand the idea of going to this festival, yet you feel absolutely entitled to a Radiohead show (you do live in NYC after all, you HAVE to have all the best shows, and pay a premium for it!), drive to Philly, or DC or Boston, or Montreal and see 'em there.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:40 PM
Will the two main stages really be side by side? What if you have a spot on the railing in front of one stage? How are you going to watch and hear an act on the other stage? It would make more sense to have the two stages face each other.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:40 PM
Butch Walker, My Morning Jacket, David Ford, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Rx Bandits, The Moldy Peaches, Flaming Lips, Katy Perry, Dresden Dolls, Lily Allen, Tegan and Sara, Electric Eel Shock, Bang Camaro, CornMo, Andrew WK, Badfish etc. Cant think of more suitable bands for this type of festival right now but Radiohead is the biggest band they need cuz 40K people is not really that big to have 3 stages and tons of big bands.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:42 PM
"who wants to stay out late on a Sunday anyway?"
Trustafarians who don't have to go to work the next day.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:42 PM
this is Anon.742 (#1)those are bands i think should get added...i forgot to say that hahah sorry
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:44 PM
Anon 7:44: That lineup would inspire just as much hatred as the actual lineup! Are you all really so selfish to think that the lineup should cater to your personal taste? All of these bands (the bands playing the fest) sell tickets...whether YOU like them or not. Except for Your Vegas. WTF are they?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:49 PM
Personally, I can't complain that much, as it's 2 days of Radiohead, with the New Pornos & the Go Team opening on Friday, and Kings of Leon & Animal Collective opening on Saturday. Yes, Sunday is quite weak, but RodGab & Cat Power aren't bad, and one would think there will be at least one more decent band added.
Posted by Robert | February 21, 2008 7:57 PM
good for you anon 749! i was saying those are some bands i wish were playing...not all of them, so just go listen to ur daft punk and run in your hipster olympics (the slow version). oh and learn to read also. i think the bands i listed would draw a more varied audience than all the same type of crowd (such as the listed bands). But its still early, so we'll see.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 7:59 PM
im definitely going to this...outside shows always bring about fun experiences. I just wish i could afford Bonnaroo this year. Going with family and friends to Aruba and thats costing me 900+ for everything grrrr.
Bands I will be attending for:
Radiohead, Jack Johnson,Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots, The New Pornographers, Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Chromeo, Sia, Nicole Atkins
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:03 PM
"$100 for Radiohead + 20 other bands per day."
Are people retarded? There are only two stages active at a time - the big stage and the little stage. THere will be no more than 15 bands playing each day. That's why the news release says more than 40 bands. Not more than 60 bands.
And if you want a realistic 36 bands that they could have announced, here's one that I don't think people would have complained about and is realistic. I don't like a lot of these bands but there is more than enough to make me happy. If you think it is unrealistic scan the lineups from ACL, Lollapalooza and Coachella last year.
Radiohead (headlining twice)

somebody murder jack johnson and il buy them a radiohead ticket.
Posted by drLES | February 21, 2008 8:08 PM
i think jack johnson is gonna come out with kanye west and then a cover of Umbrella with the Flaxons hah
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:17 PM
OBVIOUSLY guidos would never come out to see Radiohead. whoever first said they would is a negative dick who shits on jersey to feel better about himself.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:26 PM
Anon 8.26 is right. If you're worried about Jerz "trash" being at the fucking festival then a) consider the fact that they wouldn't fucking bother with Radiohead when they could be dancing to Cascada and b) Guidos will fuck your ass up. Anyone who has seen True Life: Jersey Shore would know that
Posted by Liz | February 21, 2008 8:39 PM
yea all the jersey guidos wouldn't take the train 5 more min into the city. I think if there gonna go, there gonna go. don't forget where all those guidos came from...jersey ain't staten island.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:42 PM
just to clarify...true life: jersey shore, they were new york guidos who invade the jersey shore for three months of the year and ruin my summers of laying on the beach in man thong. Thats why god made the indian summer.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:47 PM
i love guidos if they prevent man thong.
Posted by drLES | February 21, 2008 8:50 PM
Damn, I was looking forward to this announcement more than ANYTHING....what a HUGE let down so far!!!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:51 PM
What's a NYC Radiohead fan to do? If we go to a different city for a regular show on Radiohead's tour to avoid the blah acts at APW, we'll miss the added songs they'll perform over two nighs at APW. It's like having to buy the big expensive box set to get the second disc of In Rainbows.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 8:56 PM
My prediction is that they will be selling very few one-day passes, forcing people to buy a three-day pass. If not, it will end up being Fri/Sat sell outs, and a half full venue on Sunday.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 9:00 PM
awful lineup ill wait till 2009 may for vineland
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 9:09 PM
NJ hater ...you are joking right ? no one is this stupid...
This site is like a mile from NYC do you think suddenly people with no interest in this music will go because its in their state / area ? The show will be filled with the same people that would be a festival in NYC or in Brooklyn or Queens (homes of some serious "guidos")
Even if there are some people that you deem unworthy (and I sure you are fuckin' prince) who are you to say who can come to a show or can't ? Also NJ is a very large and diverse state & not defined by only the the northeast section of the state...
Also what's wrong with Pizza ?

News flash: Jack Johnson is popular. Your friends won't be there, but Sunday will be packed.
Despite your complaining and best efforts to tailor this concert to your specific needs, this festival will sell out handily and quickly.

true dat, 9 o'clock. i like radiohead and i know their hands are tied as far as dealing with these corporate promoters, but this shit makes me sick. if you miss out on the presale, ticketmaster only sells the back rows of seated gigs to the public, everything else goes to the brokers. i think it's illegal collusion, but no one seems to care. and we'll end up stuck between buying three-day passes or not seeing radiohead. i know they can't exactly do a residency at hammerstein and similar venues around the world or they'd never stop touring, and they get props for releasing a great record that was also a huge middle finger to the record industry. but i've just about had it with the way they end up milking us for so much freaking money.

"i know their hands are tied as far as dealing with these corporate promoters" No they aren't...
"if you miss out on the presale, ticketmaster only sells the back rows of seated gigs to the public, everything else goes to the brokers." There's no presale here...
"but i've just about had it with the way they end up milking us for so much freaking money." Milking? Just don't go!

whats up with the virgin fest the same weekend ?

Jack Johnson must have an amazing publicist/manager. Why the hell is he getting the billing he is?
Posted by Cory Greenwell | February 21, 2008 10:00 PM
Anyone know if these are the only Radiohead dates for the NY area? If so, that blows. Even though I hate MSG, at least if you see them there you get a seat and don't have wait for hours squished behind a bunch of tall drunk hooligans while not being able to see anything, let alone hear anything.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 10:01 PM
I like Radiohead fine (even if Rainbows bored me) ... but it's really goofy to have one band headline a festival two nights running. If they were doing some kind of ATP-Don't Look Back thing, performing OK Computer straight through I'd understand. But otherwise it just seems lazy.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 10:14 PM
Guess I'll go elsewhere to see Radiohead.
While I was hoping to see a festival in my own backyard the lineup is just not that great in the middle tier bands. Underworld, Spearhead right before Radiohead yuk. and then Kings of Leon into Radiohead. Talk about bad pairings. I like some of the earlier bands but I'll die waiting for hours to go by until Radiohead takes the stage each nite.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 10:16 PM
kings of leon playing in front of Radiohead!!!? Ed O'Brien probably didn't sleep a wink tonight, he's so excited.
seriously though it's hard to argue that this line up isn't a little disappointing. i'm trying to tell myself that $90 a day for Radiohead and a few other bands isn't a bad deal, but I was expecting to be excited about going all 3 days.
They're fine acts, but i don't think i can justify spending $90 to see Rodrigo y Gabriela and The Black Kids.
Unless they add Daft Punk or Springsteen i think i'm gonna skip sunday.
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 10:19 PM
to be fair, Liberty State Park is not that huge of an area... but I was hoping the festival would be bigger than this where they have the good sense of putting a tent for the electronic acts instead of having Underworld lead into Radiohead.
Posted by blahayzh | February 21, 2008 10:38 PM
how were underworld when they played central park this fall?
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 10:48 PM
liberty state park is actually fairly large. at least 100 acres.

jack johnson is huge, you fucking morons! Maybe you tools should be "slobbering" on cocks to get a single gig at some pathetic dive bar in brooklyn, you annoying fucking scum. i'm tired of these annoying post. jack johnson is lyrical better than half these pompous indie bands that get attention because of their DIGITAL music making. DIGITAL MUSIC ISN'T TALENT! YOU JUST NEED TIME TO WASTE TO GET IT RIGHT, AND MONEY TO AFFORD THE EQUIPMENT!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE HITTING KNOBS AND HARDLY ANYTHING ELSE!!!!! and just because a bunch of annoying cunts who live off their parents income support these annoying bands like animal collective should die. animal collective isn't music, they are cunts from maryland, or where-ever, in which they probably said to each other "lets make shitty music, and call it 'artistic' so we can have a bunch of other cunts believe it is and spread the word!"
Posted by die hipster die, please die, you're making the income in the ghetto high as fuck, leave, please leav | February 21, 2008 11:09 PM
^^"jack johnson is lyrical better"
Posted by J | February 21, 2008 11:16 PM
hey asshole, why knock maryland? like santa barbara is a fucking cultural mecca? dunno why im responding, nobody cares about jack johnson besides 13 year old girls and surfer yeabros

panda bear hits knobs, animal collective actually play instruments...get it right geez
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 11:25 PM
Imagine this--that all the posters on this board show up at any meeting place...a park, a restaurant, a bar, a festival whatever. Would everyone speak to each other with such disgrace and crudeness? Why can't posters comment nice, happy and fluffly comments like those Myspace pages??!!
I wonder if the vibes at this festival will be good. Coachella rocks for sure!!!
Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2008 11:26 PM
Is it just me or does this lineup suck so much dick that it seems like Goldenvoice has sabotaged lineup so people in the east coast will want to go to coachella more and then pay 179$ to see radiohead.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 12:35 AM
"This festival" is going to be full of the people who post on this blog. How do you THINK the vibes will be? Nice, happy and fluffy don't come to mind.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 12:40 AM
So Anon 10:50's list includes the STAGES the bands will be playing on, eh? Although I think the overall lineup on Friday looks better, a lot of the bands I like aren't on the same stage as Radiohead et al. The Saturday mainstage lineup is a lot stronger. I DO NOT want to sit through a Spearhead set and I've seen Underworld plenty of times by now. Girl Talk is fucking awesome at festivals but anybody that goes to see his set ain't gonna be within two miles of the stage when Radiohead comes on.
Radiohead
Kings of Leon
Animal Collective
Metric
Chromeo
The Black Angels...
is a pretty solid lineup, and about all I'll end up seeing for the 90 bucks. I went to Coachella last year and there is just no fucking way to see all the bands you want to see. You gotta just pick a spot and keep it real.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 12:51 AM
Festivals are alright and heaps of the bands I want to see, but will they do side shows in NYC?
Posted by whocares | February 22, 2008 1:07 AM
Only bands other than Radiohead on my list woube be Go! Team and Roots, and now since Go! Team looks like they are opening early friday I wont get to see them because of work, so that sucks.
I will definitely be skipping sunday though. Jack Johnsons is no 1 in the country? who gives a fuck? So was Kenny Loggins in 82, dont mean I have to listen to that shit.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 2:14 AM
to "whocares". Every night is a side show in NYC.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 2:26 AM
Aren't we just watching the second edition of Field Day Fest?
Yet another overpriced day long show (in this case, three day long shows) with Radiohead headlining (two of them).
It's too much to ask, but I wish the Radiohead sheep would hold back on buying so quickly just to see what happens if it doesn't sell as the date nears.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 7:57 AM
wow. you pathetic whiners are really making me miss the daft punk comments.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 8:20 AM
The fact that this show has about the same ticket price as Coachella is atrocious. I will try to get a single day Saturday ticket, but no thanks on the rest at $90 per day. If Radiohead weren't touring this year, this "festival" would not exist. And the Arcade Fire/LCD/Blonde Redhead/Les Savy Fav show was leaps and bounds better than that Sunday lineup...and it definitely wasn't $90.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 8:38 AM
a typical South Street Seaport, Central Park Summerstage, McCarren Pool free weekend has a better line-up, when you think about it. Where are the NYC based bands on that list?
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 8:58 AM
I think that is a mistake there on the sec day, Animal Collective will probably lead into Radiohead, not Kings of Leon. If it does go off like that that's a pretty weird pairing.
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 9:07 AM
Man, what a bunch of ridiculous complaining. If you don't like the lineup don't go. Simple. All the bitching about the bands you wanted to be playing? 90% of them play in NYC all the time. If you need to see, say, the National that badly, maybe you should have gone to one of the 2 shows they played in October....or this weekend. Radiohead doesn't come around too often.
And to whoever asked, Underworld absolutely KILLED it in central park last year. Best show I saw last year that didn't involve 2 robots in a pyramid. Having them open up for Radiohead? Sure takes the edge off of not seeing Kraftwerk -> Portishead at Coachella.
Posted by Rob | February 22, 2008 9:13 AM
Rob,
The thing is, why not just have the Radiohead/Underworld tour (rumor is that Underworld is opening the North American shows) in NYC without all these other filler bands at a lower ticket price? If you are going to have a festival, then have a festival with a full lineup. If you are just going to try and spruce up a couple of Radiohead shows that would happen in NYC either way, then why go to the extra hassle of dumping a bunch of average bands in there while charging people $90 per day or perhaps forcing people to buy a 3 day pass which includes a ticket to Jack Johnson that Radiohead fans don't want?
Posted by CN | February 22, 2008 9:18 AM
"If Radiohead weren't touring this year, this "festival" would not exist. And the Arcade Fire/LCD/Blonde Redhead/Les Savy Fav show was leaps and bounds better than that Sunday lineup...and it definitely wasn't $90."
This is the first post to truly put things in perspective. That Arcade Fide show this past summer was around $40 and that line-up kills any day at APW. I'll take LCD and Blonde Redhead over Kings of Leon and Animal Coll. any day of the week! Radiohead is my favorite band but the rest of the line-up is soooooo disappointing!!!
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 9:19 AM
Does anyone know if Radiohead intend to play any other NY area dates other than this festival?
Posted by Dan | February 22, 2008 9:26 AM
CN,
I agree, there is a lot of filler, especially on the Sunday (which I definitely won't be going to). But personally, I think this is a pretty solid lineup on Sat:
Radiohead
Kings of Leon
Animal Collective
Metric
Chromeo
The Black Angels
Toss in the chance to see Underworld again and I'm in. Yeah, I wish that we had more info about the Radiohead tour before we had to decide about this...but I'm not taking any chances.
Posted by Rob | February 22, 2008 9:26 AM
I shit on your puny festival offerings!
Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2008 10:06 AM
yes saturday is a great lineup with radiohead, kings of leon, the roots, and the black angels, but I think its the only day I'll be going to, Radiohead is still going to play a NYC show and I'd rather spend 40 for that then 90 for friday, I was hoping Interpol would be in the mix, but I guess not. And sunday is a horrible lineup through and through they got to add more bands to that if anyone will go
