The Beatles @ Shea Stadium

Billy Joel will be the last artist to play at New York's Shea Stadium with a July 16 concert billed as "The Last Play at Shea, From the Beatles to Billy." The show comes in the midst of the New York Mets' final season at Shea; the team moves into its new home at Citi Field in 2009....The Joel show, promoted by Live Nation in association with Mitch Slater, goes on sale Feb. 16......"The Last Play at Shea," which comes the day after the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, makes Joel the only artist to ever have played both Yankee Stadium (two nights in 1991) and Shea Stadium [Billboard]
Video of the Beatles playng Shea, and related footage, below....

Quick - Who played the last show at Southpaw? Sin-e? Continental? the old Luna Lounge?

Thought so.

how can you compare billy joel to anyone who played at southpaw, sin-e, continental, luna??? and how can you compare any of those places to shea?

i hate shea and i am no huge billy fan...but come on?! it will sell out and people will talk about it for some time.

What, they couldn't find a guy who's a Mets fan to do the last concert at Shea? Fugghedaboutit!

There will be a few folks who can say they saw both the Beatles and Billy at Shea.

What if those in charge of Shea Stadium find another promoter to do another concert after July 16? Would people who buy tickets to this Billy Joel show get a refund since it would no longer be the last concert at Shea?

i saw the stones play there in '89 (living colour opened) and it was pretty freakin' great. it might have been because i was 13 and got stoned for the first time, but great nonetheless. this could be awesome even though billy joel is a turd.

when was the last prior show at shea?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2008 10:36 AM

Springsteen 10/1,3-4/2003, last prior shows?

The Who with the Clash (and David Johansson, playing with the lights on) Oct. 13, 1982 was another GREAT one.

A little band called the Police played there as well, in 86? I believe and Sting said "we'd like to thank the Beatles for lending us their Stadium".

lol at saying southpaw is among the closed venues of nyc.

even though they do seem to be closed most days and have a good show about once every two moths....

I'm there

Here's to hoping the "Last play at Shea" is a walk-off HR that wins the world series.

Correction: How time flies, The Police played Shea 8-18-83, Synchronicity tour by 86 I think they were on their way to splitsville.

Speaking of the Mets, Pedro Martinez participates in cock fights: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23041657/

Boo! Hiss!

I saw the last Springsteen show there.

Billy can easily sell out 10 nights at Shea Stadium. He doesn't perform out anymore and his fans are diehards.

Billy Joel could play a free concert in my basement and I'd go take a walk around the block till it was over. :))

that's kind of sad that they're replacing shea with 'citi field" (aka shitty field)

what's sadder is billy joel is going to be the last to perform there.

Show is sold out already.

I got floor seats!

Eric Clapton and Elton John playe Shea Stadium in I think it was 93 or 94.....I was there and it was a great concert...sorry they are tearing down Shea......thing's just won't be the same....I have tickets to the concert and am surpries he is only playing one nite as he is a big seller here in NYC, being a native New Yorker...
