Etta James

Beyonce Knowles has signed on to play blues singer Etta James in "Cadillac Records," a 1950s period film about the founder of Chicago's Chess Records and his lineup of stars.

The 10-time Grammy winner joins a cast that includes Adrien Brody as Chess Records founder Leonard Chess, Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon, and Columbus Short as Little Walter.

Darnell Martin ("Their Eyes Were Watching God") will direct the Sony BMG Films project from his own screenplay. Knowles will also serve as an executive producer. [Hollywood Reporter]

These news guys never give the proper credit and then they fuck it up. Reuters got this story from The Hollywood Reporter who printed it as if they broke the story. In fact it originated from my buddy at Blackfilm.com who got the scoop from Cedric the Entertainer.
But the Reporter fucked it up in that Darnell Martin is a SHE not a HE.
Also, Cedric is in it playing Willie Dixon.
It is a great story. Hope they do this right.

I once read or heard that Bo Diddley said he made lots more money for appearing in the video for George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" than he did from his records. Can anyone confirm this? I found no mention of him getting shafted by Chess Records on Wikipedia or allmusic.

Some are asking if Beyonce is "FIT" to play "Etta James."

~~First, I am appall and offended by the word “FIT” in reference to “Boyonce.”~~

This Beautiful ( both inside and out) , intelligent, super talented, young lady can accomplish anything she set her mind to do....I am from the era of old school (I'm 60 years old) and a big fan of Etta James.~~

Yes, Yes, Boyonce can play Etta James, she sings with deep feeling and “SOUL!~~

What a "Beautiful Black Young Lady” appealing to the"HUMAN EYES." She's a Song Bird and a field of “Long Stem French Tulips.” ~~I commend her Parents for a job well done! ~~May God Bless This Family Always..

I saw the movie the other day and enjoyed in immensely. Is it really true? Especially the part about Etta's mother being a whore? And if so, so what . . . out of that unlikely union a beautiful songbird was born! May God bless Ms James always!!!!!

The career of Beyonce is almost finished, she does not record any good songs since 1 years, it's very sad.
