CPC GangbangsCPC Gangbangs

These four lads fuse garage rock and anarchic punk flare into short, riotous outbursts.

The usual suspects, proto-punk explorers like MC5, Stooges and Rocket From the Tombs, get the nod on songs like "Gone Black" and "Coke Blues," but CPC Gangbangs bring a new sense of heaviosity that tips the scales with Hawkwind-styled oscillations, obscure psychedelic references and even a nod to Goth gods Sister of Mercy on the unlikely album opener, "Jeff Starship." [Montreal Mirror]
It isn't groundbreaking, but CPC Gangbangs's energy and delivery make them an addictive group. They've built a name in Montreal the old fashioned way - constant shows and word of mouth. They have a devoted following and I believe they're poised to spread their name outward bound this year. Tour dates and a video below.....

They are also playing the Swami showcase on March 13th at Emo Jrs. They will be opening up for The Night Marchers which features 3/4ths of the Hot Snakes (minus Rick Froberg plus Chris of the CPCG on bass). Swami Records of course is run by John Reis (Drive like Jehu, Rocket from the Crypt, Hot Snakes).

Never ceases to amaze me which generic punk bands gain cache with the indie rock set. CPC Gangbangs are okay, but this sound has been done a thousand times for the past 30 years. There really are more important/innovative punk bands. They probably don't have the right publicists or haircuts, though.
