Cant believe I missed the suprise. Where were all those "what time does daft punk go on" people when you need them?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:32 PM

Brad Paisley is playing with--get this-- a PAISLEY guitar!!! omigod!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:33 PM

Amy Winehouse is huffing at my house.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:46 PM

kanye is still a cunt.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:50 PM

What time does Daft Punk come back on?

Posted by Alex | February 10, 2008 9:51 PM

I like when you put "seriously" in there but can anyone say beyond a reasonable doubt that was actualy Daft Punk up there?
Nope you can't hahahahaha
I did like the phony pressing of the buttons close ups though. Tell me how you press those buttons exactly with thick gloves on and in the dark?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:51 PM

Oh and very classy Grammy people once again. Have Tina Turner get up and do Proud Mary with no mention or tribute to Ike Turner who came up with the arrangement of that version that Tina now claims as her own.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 9:53 PM

Feist?

Posted by Alex | February 10, 2008 9:56 PM

kid rock + old lady = ratings

grammys know what's good. what a legit award show!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:00 PM

Here is a good barometer for all you so called music lovers. If you did not know that the clip they played after Feist was Keely Smith and Louis Prima then you are not as well schooled as you may think.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, February 10th

DAFT PUNK GRAMMY COLLABORATION OF "STRONGER" MARKS THEIR FIRST EVER TELEVISION PERFORMANCE

SURPRISE PERFORMANCE OF "STRONGER" MARKS DAFT PUNK'S FIRST EVER TV PERFORMANCE IN THEIR 14 YEAR HISTORY.
DAFT PUNK AND KANYE WEST PERFORMED AN ORIGINAL VERSION OF "STRONGER" THAT THEY CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE EVENT.
LOS ANGELES - February 10th, 2008 - The iconic and critically acclaimed French duo Daft Punk made a surprise appearance at the 50th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night. For their first ever television performance, they teamed up with Kanye West to perform his 2007 smash hit "Stronger", which samples the group's 2001 single "Harder Better Faster Stronger" from their landmark album Discovery. For the Grammy Awards, Daft Punk and Kanye West performed an original version of "Stronger" they created specifically for this event, marking Daft Punk's only television performance in the 14 year history of the band.

2007 found Daft Punk more relevant than ever - both critically and commercially. The duo redefined the scope of their career through a mind-blowing live show that toured internationally, followed by the theatrical release of their directorial film debut Daft Punk's Electroma, and the release of their live album Alive 2007- all to overwhelming accolades from fans and critics alike. The year culminated into a cover shared with Kanye West for SPIN magazine.

i still don't think daft punk was there- we would have had some close-ups and more facetime. looked like a video conference thing to me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:09 PM

A video conference thing? More "facetime"? You are pathetic, they were cleary there on the stage. Best part of the show so far was hearing Andy Williams announce that Amy Winehouse had won a grammy for songwriting. Bring on Amy already! How messed up will she be? Trumph or tragedy?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:26 PM

"they were cleary there on the stage"

I have no idea what CLEARY being on stage is but if you meant clearly ummm prove it? How do you know it was not just 2 guys dressed to be Daft Punk?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:30 PM

that stage prolly smelled all lavender-ish when Prince walked off it...

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:30 PM

"How do you know it was not just 2 guys dressed to be Daft Punk?"

Isn't that the whole fucking joke, genius?

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:35 PM

amy=total triumph

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:44 PM

they weren't there asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:53 PM

Daft Punk was not there. There was a screen projecting the video of Daft Punk playing "with" Kanye. Look at all of the shots of the whole stage. Their heads are bigger than Kanyes, even with Kanye standing several feet in front of the pyramid. And that's saying a lot. Seriously though, they weren't there.

Posted by I paid attention | February 10, 2008 10:55 PM

MORE AMY WINEHOUSE!!! NO MORE GRAMMYS!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 10:58 PM

"Isn't that the whole fucking joke, genius?"

No actually it isnt, shithead. At least according to the actual guys who do it.

"amy=total triumph"

really? triumph? tell me why please? because she was able to get up and perform after being in rehab for a week or so? honestly she was a little shaky and wobbly although she sounded ok. She was much better the times i saw her at joe's pub, bowery ballroom and highline ballroom.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:02 PM

"She was much better the times i saw her at joe's pub, bowery ballroom and highline ballroom."

it's an opinion, turd.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:08 PM

"it's an opinion, turd."

Yes i understand that dummy and i am asking why you thought it wa a triumph. And I am sorry but calling me a turd? You must have me mistaken for your mother.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:10 PM

Daft Punk did not play the Grammys! They were not there! It wasn't them inside the suits, it was Paul McCartney and Feist! That big pyramid in the middle of the stage was a 3-d hologram! And it goes without saying that the "Daft Punk" music Kayne was singing to was not by Daft Punk at all! It just couldn't be!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:12 PM

"You must have me mistaken for your mother."

No, she's dead.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:14 PM

Amy won every award she was nominated for, including best new artist, best pop album, best song and best record--some of the biggest ones. She looked great and she sang great. That's called a triumph.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:19 PM

not best album. that would be herbie hancock. gotta love the grammys

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:29 PM

RIVER-THE JONI LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!

hahaha once again the grammys show just how relevant they are.

actually though it is a beautiful album.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:32 PM

"Daft Punk wasn't at the Grammys!" is the new "9/11 was an inside job!"

Posted by Willie Nelson | February 10, 2008 11:34 PM

yes but had Any won, she might have stripped for us.

instead we get to hear Herbie ramble.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:34 PM

"Amy won every award she was nominated for, including best new artist, best pop album, best song and best record--some of the biggest ones. She looked great and she sang great. That's called a triumph"

First yes let's point out that you opened your moronic trap too quickly because she did not win every award she was nominated for. She looked ok..i mean a lot better than lately. She sang ok. Her voice kinda cracked at times and was not at full strength. I would not call any of this a triumph.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:35 PM

Alright she didn't win every award she was nominated for. But she is still the big winner of the night, without doubt.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:35 PM

i was watching the beginning of kanyes performance and i was thinking oh its supposed to look like daft punk and i turned it off. i watched the video a while ago and it doesnt really seem like they were actually there. the screens in the pyramid look like some fake shit from a sci fi movie.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:41 PM

Winning=triumph. Go argue with the dictionary about it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:42 PM

anon 11:02/11:35 = lily allen

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:45 PM

Who cares if she triumphed or not? Number one, her life is still fucked up. Number two, it's just the Grammys.

Posted by The Voice of Reason | February 10, 2008 11:46 PM

Voice of Reason,
Totally agree. I was just having fun with the schmucks who use over the top superlatives to describe events. These are the same annoying fools who say every band they see "killed it"

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:51 PM

I was so happy when I heard that Bright Eyes got a grammy, then I found out it was for album packaging. so lame! Thats like being a chef and getting an award for having the best forks in town.

I did like the phony pressing of the buttons close ups though. Tell me how you press those buttons exactly with thick gloves on and in the dark?"

Nice spelling, first off...second of all, even if it was a video it was still cool to see and THIRD OF ALL...that wasn't fake. Those "buttons" were touch-controls for a Lemur sequencer.

kthnx.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:55 PM

A favorite moment for me: Knowing that as Brad Paisley sang the most obnoxious song ever written and giant neon tics flashed behind him, Jeff Tweedy must have been in the audience trying to give himself lethal paper cuts with the program.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2008 11:56 PM

leave it to a bright eyes fan to make such a crappy analogy

Posted by Jim Krasinski | February 10, 2008 11:56 PM

I saw Amy Winehouse perform at my cousin's bar mitzvah at a much smaller place than bowery ballroom. Before she got big.

Cool than you: me

Posted by herschel | February 10, 2008 11:57 PM

honestly the coolest thing about the kanye/daft punk thing was the way kanye's glasses lit up, that shit was fucking awesome. daft punk looked kind of fake, especially the inside the pyramid shots

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 12:28 AM

Hey Jim 11:56 -

Bright Eyes deserved a lot more nominations and wins than that. And enough with the annual hand wringing over Kanye losing out best album. And why exactly does it matter whether that was in fact Daft Punk?

Posted by Lua | February 11, 2008 12:58 AM

First off, ooh you got me on one typo. Second it was not that cool to see and THIRD you are so wrong about the Lemur. You have no idea what you are talking about.

kthanx you are an idiot

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 1:18 AM

laugh at the paisley guitar all you want hipster world that man could play circles around all your crappy guitar bands, and he even wears tight jeans...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 1:19 AM

No no no no no no. Brad Paisley cannot outplay Jeff Tweedy, or were you suggesting some other "hipster world crappy guitar bands"? What kind of lazy shit is that, and why are you on this site if you don't like indie rock? Am I flaming randoms on the CMT message board? NO. Someone's actually going to come to the defense of Brad Paisley here? Did you also forget to give big ups to King Douche's (John Mayer) hot Alicia Keys cameo? Woot! Were Carrie Underwood's extensions and STOMP! remix also a highlight for you?

I didn't see Brad Paisley play circles around anything except a big pile of bullshit. It was terrible.

Posted by trrricky | February 11, 2008 2:23 AM

Not a big fan of Paisley's music, but I agree for the most part with Anon 1:19AM. Believe it or not some real music fans actually stop by blogs like this. There's nothing wrong with good indie rock, but most people like you here are so blinded by their perceptions of what genres are supposed to be good and who listens to what kind of music, they can't hear the actual music being played anymore to make a fair judgement about it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 3:22 AM

I posted the paisley comment, trricky, I hate country music, i love indie rock music...why do you think I am looking at this blog? Despite your close minded views of music, John Mayer(Berklee grad) and Brad Paisley are 2 of the best guitarist in Top 40, if not the. As soon as one of the 30,000 bands from Williamsburg sell the amount of albums either one of these guys have sold then you can make your judgement on their pure talent. Bottom line, head to head, Paisley would mop the floor with every indie guitarist out right now. Have you been to any shows in New York lately? How some of these openers get to play these venues I will never know, they should all be locked up in their loft in Williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 9:21 AM

i heard that they snuck Amy Winehouse into the real Grammy's via the Daft Punk Pyramid.

She was wearing a black suit. The neon tron-piping were lines of coke that were embedded into the suit; they only show up under blacklight.

Posted by anonymous | February 11, 2008 9:52 AM

Daft punk was playing at my house last night

Posted by James | February 11, 2008 10:18 AM

Why would Daft Punk lend their costumes for others to wear on what would be their first televised performance? Why wouldn't they just put them on & appear themselves?! I think the real debate is, were they actually PERFORMING. As someone else pointed out, it must have been hella hard to press all the appropriate buttons in those big fat gloves.

Posted by Matt | February 11, 2008 10:26 AM

i noticed a miscue in those Lemur sequencers/controllers during the "performance". (if that's what they were using). a viewer would have heard this, so either it was post-edited, or the "sequencers" weren't hooked up to anything and it was just a track. as far as whether or not that was Daft Punk, you guys will probably never know, so de gustibus non est disputandum.

OH BOY!

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 11:07 AM

ha, good to see that we've got some Lemur sequencer experts on here (Anon 11:07).

also, I love Wilco, but agree w/ whomever said Brad Paisley could probably play circles around Jeff Tweedy. He's not a great guitar player by any means. Nels Cline, however, would melt them both with a Cleveland Steamer of rock.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 12:10 PM

What song did Brad Paisley play that was "obnoxious"?

They aren't buttons its a synthesizer board. A really high end one that had a button desgin but its actually jsut a big flat square touch pad. Probly a 10,000 dollar big flat touch pad.

Posted by anonymous | February 11, 2008 4:27 PM

Lemur's aren't sequencers. They're just controllers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 5:42 PM

"Lemur's aren't sequencers. They're just controllers."

Well, damn me. (This is Anon 11:07).

My bad. You're right.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 7:17 PM

Daft Punk looks like two kids o_o seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 7:52 PM

well if you can mime electro music - they did it

it wasnt the real daft punk

taller one is always on the left, visor helmet always on the left, and they never let camera so close to what they are doing

looks like 2 kids hitting a Nintendo DS, i know they were the controllers they promote, but u dont hit them that way.

song plagerised, and now themselves too.
conspiracy - YES

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 9:23 PM

I love the conspiracy theories. You don't even know their names or much about them at all, yes you're ones to criticize. They are in fact one of the few electronic acts that really DOES perform - and improvise - live. The Lemurs w/ touch pad was a nice addition, and it certainly looked authentic to me.

What does Thomas "always" being on the left have to do with anything? They revel in anonymity. It's an electronica thing to do. There's no conspiracy involved.

You're also forgetting motive. Who in the world would skip out on performing at the Grammy Awards...who in the world would make someone else do that? I know I wouldn't give that up for the world.

Quit hating Daft Punk for benefiting more from "Stronger" than Mr. West ever will.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2008 5:34 PM

You guys are all idiots. Lemurs aren't controllers they are adorable animals. You are all wrong and I am right...posers.

Posted by DK | February 12, 2008 5:45 PM

daft would never play with kanye....plus they werent mixing their shit. its not them fags

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2008 8:39 PM

Anyone who actually saw daft punk perform live during their tour would most likely agree that what they did during the grammys hardly amounts to a "live performance." For the amount of time they actually focused of daft punk after kanye was finished with his bullshit, I wouldn't be surprised if it was prerecorded (the mixed samples). Besides, of all the photos I've seen of the inside of their pyramid, none had those lemur controllers.

It all seems like more of a visual performance thing than an audio performance. For a first tv performance, i was expecting a LOT more.

Oh, and its not daft punk in kanye's music video, so they have let others wear the suits. It happens in Electroma too.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 4:58 PM

theres no sense arguing...anyways...without daft punk, kanye wouldn't be shit

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 3:09 AM

Lemurs or not? Case Closed...

http://www.jazzmutant.com/news.php#daft

From the products website

Posted by James | February 18, 2008 10:40 PM

That was Daft Punk, they were using 3 Lemur control surfaces as midi controllers for their own custom Max/MSP patch programs which they themselves programmed. How do I know this? Because they are hardcore gear and audio nerds, the type that actually knows how Max works. Anybody that's used Max knows that it's not only the ultimate mad scientist "make sweet sounds" program but also a very unique and customizable, even personal, program. You can't really ask someone else to build you something in it unless you already know how to do it. And the color scheme they chose was sweet, they looked like the bikers from Tron.

Posted by bsphooey | February 23, 2008 4:35 AM

theres no sense arguing...anyways...without daft punk, kanye wouldn't be shit

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 3:09 AM

What? How can you qualify such a stupid comment? Really think about it. Stronger is off of Kanye's 3rd album. He's pretty much been one of the biggest acts in music for like 4 years now. Your quite the dumbass to think Kanye wouldn't be anywhere without Daft Punk. Not to take shit away from Daft Punk who are also dope.

Question...
Why must you lame assholes hate on Kanye all the time? If you don't like him turn off your TV's or radios. Nobody makes you listen. You choose to.

Question 2...
Who else puts on such awesome Tron-like performances with light up glasses, jackets, and violins and shit? Who ever puts Kanye's shows together is a fuckin genius.

Posted by Deez Nuts | February 24, 2008 11:41 AM

Thomas Bangalter's wife was at the grammy awards too which makes me more inclined to think its them unless Bangalter just let her go by herself...not to mention i dont know anyone else who could mix on four lemur controls and still look like sick cunts having a good time. They customized their own unique interface for them as well..having seen the live set i reckon that daft take too much pride in mixing their own stuff live to let someone else do it especially at something like the grammy awards...and also maybe the height difference can be explained by someone giving them different sized platforms to make the overall appearance of daft punk look more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing to a nationwide audience. Just a thought.

Posted by Richie | February 26, 2008 9:00 PM

"just a though" which makes more sense =)

Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2008 5:46 PM

God some of you are stupid.

Think about it. How much would Daft Punk have got paid for doing Grammys? ALOT, for what just over a 1 min of showtime. Granted their gonna do it and bring along 3 of their toys that they endorse. 2 lemurs and 1 dexter.

and the Lemur can be used as a sequencer.

Posted by Jakal | October 3, 2008 12:44 PM

I just saw the Daft Punk video on Grammy, with Kannye. Seriouly... It looks totaly fake.

I know that the interface, could just be a lemur interface, they are pretty strange and looks fake in realworld. :) But...it looks fake anyway !

The acting of the duo, and the timing of the triggering on samples (Screen), don't look 100% correct...
It would be a LOT easier to just dress up 2 DJs, who just love DP, and know the music, and have a good timming on fingers, and put they there. Easier and much cheaper.

They just look a bit dimmished on back and moving the hands too much. I did't bought it as real Daft Punk. 90% it's just 2 dummy DJs acting like the Daft duo. :(

Posted by paulo | December 1, 2008 4:57 PM

its not fake man, i no when i watched it i thought so too but its daft punk they prolly had to pay a load to get them, daft punk isnt fake or a sell out

its the grammys, they wouldnt fake it

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:16 PM

Kanye West, LOL

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:18 PM

dont think that was daft punk because they were stood the wrong way round. in every live show you see, as you look at them, thomas is on the left and guy is on the right, saw
them at rockness

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:43 AM

wow, i am really surprised at how dumb humanity is looking at this page.

why wouldnt they play the grammys? theyd get money etc

And its not just "random pressing of buttons" you tards, guy was triggering samples via a midi controller.

Posted by Anonymous | March 8, 2009 7:57 AM

You people may be right about DP wanting to be at the Grammies, but if you people who think they do it for think that, your wrong. Tomas said himself in an interview that they are devoted for their work. They also say they have a lot of things to do in their work. I mean they only have three pre- recorded albums after how long? And why would they even put a platform to make (I can't even spell this name) look taller? Makes no sense what so ever. Also, the poporatzie can be wrong too. And maybe DP didn't want to say anything because they didn't really care. They didn't care the last time people did that. Also the music style sounded sorta' different from there usual work. Who knows. And there are a lot of evidance leading to different sides.
P.S. And there is no more point in this anymore! No matter what you say, the show was the show and it can't be change. Also I typed this all on an I-Pod! Technology rules!!!

Posted by Someone | April 27, 2009 8:08 PM

daft punk was there you idiots! Seriously if you doubt the lemur interface, google it! Its real! As for the big gloves? Those guys tour with the same outfits on! Practice makes perfect retards! People like you all make me so mad! Just cause they rocked the house with kanye better than anyone ever could, someone has to bash and call fake! Ive seen the video, it's not fake.

PS the big heads are a result of the helmets they wear dumb asses!!!

They used 4 Lemurs you dumbasses. They've spent years programming and practicing with those "big fat gloves" and now they can do it with their eyes closed. And yes the music from "Stronger" does belong to daft punk. They came up with the song years ago, and just because Kanye added a lame rap to all the mindless brainwashed hip hop music lovers seem to think it's his! Do some research people!
