Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova seemed so humble and grateful to have been there. Awesome!

they won only because enchanted split the vote.

Posted by spaceballs the movie | February 25, 2008 9:08 AM

They won only because the Enchanted music was absolutely terrible..

The Once soundtrack is fantastic. The movie is fantastic.
Falling Slowly is a great song, but I don't think it is the best song on the soundtrack. It is definitely the song that is the main focus in the film though.

if you listen carefully you can hear the sound of a few thousand theater kids' hearts breaking

Posted by d.paul | February 25, 2008 9:49 AM

I sat there thinking "Jon Stewart should make her come back out and say something". And he [they] did!

Male teenagers do not have hearts.

Go on the Glen! Couldnt have gone to a nicer man. Ha! And now i can say i played on stage with an Oscar winner. Go me!!

anything is better than those 3 songs off of 'enchanted' and the little black choir song.

btw/ any song off of 'walk hard: the dewey cox story' would've won easily if the academy had the balls to nominate one

Posted by hipster poseur | February 25, 2008 12:18 PM

coolest set design in ages, too.

Not a doubt this song would get the award. Absolutely divine. What heartwarming performers and movie.

Wow... This is a world away from watchin The Frames at Leeds City Varieties this time last year!

Posted by Bincey | February 25, 2008 5:03 PM

^^^^ SO hip.

I would've liked to see that Hugh Grant song "Pop! Goes My Heart" from Music & Lyrics get nominated. Even though that movie was pretty crap, that song/music video is fantastic.

Musician for 40 years. Redhead from California
Welsh Irish. My heart soared for both of them.
Bravo....Sal Valentino lead singer of the Beau Brummels turned me on to them. I lived the life of a musician in a house with other musicians until I was broke. I am glad for their success. It give heart to us all that knew they were great. Really great.

I am so very happy John Stewart ushered Marketa back in. What an outstanding night it was. They swept the feel of joy back into all of us.

Hey I grew up at Disneyland. I was there they day it opened as a child. Lived 1/2 hour away. But my heart will always be an Irish man.

Loved last night,

Lance

So wonderful that they let Marketa speak after being cut-off by the orchestra so that she could deliver her sincere and uplifting speech with the most composure of anyone the entire telecast. Their performance of the somber and joyful Falling Slowly and it's win WAS the highlight of the evening.

Posted by Karlooop | February 25, 2008 11:52 PM

If the ceremony was broadcast live in the Czech Republic, I hope her family and friends didn't turn it off after she was cut off. :(

what's up with the guy ignoring her and hugging the disco ball next to him for like a whole minute and then not even letting her talk?

i hope she dumps his egomaniacal ass.

Posted by chivalry is dead | February 26, 2008 7:17 PM

they announced that they were hugging and kissing backstage before they brought Marketa out "chivarly is dead"

so shut the f up you idiot.

spaceballs: you're a dick.

"Falling slowly" and the Swell Season are beautiful, raw, heartfelt, touching music and musicians.
While I think the ENCHANTED songs are superb, and the performances at the Oscars were excellent, Hansard and Irglova are just the real deal. They are richly deserving of Oscar gold, for creating a lovely song, and for starring in a revelation of a film.

Posted by Pslightly Psycho | February 29, 2008 2:25 PM

if by spaceballs is a dick, you mean that he's right, then I agree wholeheartedly.
You are also correct that the Enchanted songs are superb. Hansard and Irglova are also the real deal, as is Alan Menken. The fact that he's won before does not mean the "feel-good" story deserved to win.
The songs from enchanted were better and unfortunately split the vote so not one of the three won.

i think this is a beautiful song and i also think that they deserved to win this award just like anyone else did.

Posted by darla | May 17, 2008 7:48 PM

they are fantastic , i think
