High on Fire played Europa, watch it online

High On Fire

For those who missed High On Fire's massive show in Brooklyn a few weeks ago (with the mighty Saviours, A Life Once Lost, & Car Bomb) Woozy captured it on video! ... thunderous drums, evil looks, and sustain for days. The sets by A Life Once Lost & Car Bomb will follow in the coming week (Feb 29th & Mar 7th respectively).

Also courtesy of woozyfly: the entire Baroness show from December 1st at Bowery Ballroom when they opened for Witchcraft.

ok its probably just me but HOF has gone down hill lately. Ive been going to see them play in nyc since their first show at continetal and i gotta say the last 2 times ive seen them they have bored me....the crowd keeps getting shittier and the new material isnt nearly as good as the early stuff....dont get me wrong they are still one of the best heavy bands currently in existence but the most recent album isnt as good as it couldve been

I totally disagree with you about the LPs.... I think their LPs are getting better and objectively (not as a fan who has supported them from the beginning) can you truly say that The Art Of Self-Defense is better than Death Is This Communion?

To be fair though, I think HOF do have a formula and are sticking with it, for better or for worse (I love it though).

As far as their shows go, I think that any great band on the come-up will eventually play to broader and broader crowds..... much to the chagrin of the true-from-the-get-go fans. And in general, do you find that the more times you see a band, the more times you WANT to see them?

Stop the presses! Actual music discussion breaks out on BV.

What time does Daft Punk discuss music on BV?

I'm sooo sorry I had to do that.

*cough* HOF's earlier stuff was much better, but this can be said for many bands - I figure that some bands as they amass more fans figure they can churn out material not as great and still do ok in the grand scheme of things.

to Blackbubblegum - In general I stopped listening to metal a long time ago, but I would say some bands, the more I saw them the more I wanted to see them, for ex. Slayer, or Danzig, back in those days I made sure never to miss a show. The band just has to be goddmaned good to make you want to catch their every show, and I would say very few nowdays can get a sizeable following.

One band that is out now that I see as much as possible is Sightings, I must have seen them 7 times in the past 12 months and their show/music never gets old to me. Although they don't have that many fans.

I think in general you might be correct, as some bands settle into the "business" of the music business in old age... But in certain cases (like HOF, imo) a band can actually find their sound in their later years. That sound may not be who they were on album 1 or 2, but who they were meant to be. EX: Radiohead pre-The Bends, Flaming Lips pre-Soft Bulletin, or early Faith No More.

HOF aren't as menacing and the guitar tone isnt as abrasive (TOTALLY miss that heavy slab of guitar on "Art of Self Defense", that Bongzilla/Electric Wizard tone).... but I think the songs are better.

He needs to switch back to the Les Paul and Matamps :)

Are you saying that there aren't as many good metal bands? Or are you saying there arent as many good BIG metal bands? I totally agree with the latter.

BTW, Sightings rules.... I f'n love them too....
