just an ok band.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 2:32 PM

i thoroughly enjoy their music.

Posted by erinrose | February 15, 2008 2:40 PM

i thought this band was only 2 guys ?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 2:42 PM

When they play the song 'kids' is it basically a karaoke deal? No one plays any instruments during that song.

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | February 15, 2008 2:48 PM

I love the album but they're not quite good enough musicians to pull it off live. Especially the rhythm section.

Posted by bill p | February 15, 2008 2:57 PM

I like some of the tracks on the album, but from what I've read, it doesn't sound like they put on much of a live show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 3:05 PM

what ever happened to the french kicks?

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 3:24 PM

their album is fantastic. with this kind of songwriting talent, they have a good chance of getting much bigger. and if they improve the live show, they could be huge.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 3:27 PM

They used to be a two piece. (well they were a two piece when I saw them open for Of Montreal in Toronto)

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 3:58 PM

zzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 4:01 PM

french kicks have 3 mercury lounge shows in april.

"with this kind of songwriting talent, they have a good chance of getting much bigger. and if they improve the live show, they could be huge."

i totally agree...with lyrics like:

I'm Feelin rough I'm Feelin raw I'm in the prime of my life.
Let's make some music make some money find some models for wives.
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.

it is only a matter of time until MTV comes calling

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 4:20 PM

saw them last nite and thought they were dope.
not exactly tight, but full of young energy that
the nyc music scene needs.
people were actually dancing and smiling.
refreshing.

MTV would never promote anything produced by no talent dummies. NEVER!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2008 4:28 PM

that's the only good song on the album.
the rest is underwhelming.

like 2:32 said, an okay band at best.

I thought they did a great job opening for Yeasayer and Black Mountain. Kids is a decent song, and Time To Pretend and The Youth are also worth a listen.

that video from mtv just made me vommit in my mouth a little

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 5:47 AM

love that video.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 7:17 AM

Hey, the whole (pick something unhip) made me "vomit in my mouth a little" is really tired. Time for a new "zinger," dude.

Posted by anonymous | February 16, 2008 11:08 AM

I think "Time to Pretend" is a great song. Their performance on Letterman was a bit lackluster. Plus the vocals were way too low.

Posted by treece | February 17, 2008 12:25 PM

I really like these guys alot. Everything has its own purpose, some things dont have to be broken down and analyzed. I HATE snobs no matter what we're talking about. People like that suck. Cant say or see anything good because you appreciate NOTHING. I have yet to see them live, which I do have to agree if a band is a let down live, I'm just not that into them afterwards. It was like the opposite when I first heard Stars of Track+Field, and then saw them. Now THAT is an awesome live act.

ALL YOU HATER ARE JELOUS

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2008 1:35 PM

there is song writing talent beyond time to pretend, btw.

I think that people forget that not everyone has to like the same kinds of music, agree to disagree. Everyone is way too concerned with what music is cool and uncool, and if/how MTV has affected them. I hope you realize not liking something because MTV has touched on it is just as bad as loving something just because MTV has promoted it.

People should listen to music that they like JUST because they like it, for whatever reason. It doesn't matter if someone thinks it sucks, or if they're getting "too mainstream", all that matters is that you like it.

These bands play music to express themselves, for themselves, not for us. The second a band starts playing for money or for their fans, and not for themselves, is when I'll start losing respect for them.

Oww ... this group is so GREAT, and andrew is so SEX hahahahahaha =p

You made great pics, and ... please please please, can you send me the picture with andrew singing (the name is megmt-3 I guess), in better quality if you have it?

I would be a really good action, and the great bearded will reward you, believe me!

i love this band. and like someone said already you should like music and listen to it because it inspires something or creates an emotion within you. not because mtv does or doesn't promote it. its ok not to like it but dont diss a good band because mtv thinks other people will them too.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2008 2:28 AM

i fuckin love them!!! they are AWESOME

THEY ARE AWESOME LIVE

Posted by EMILY | July 14, 2009 4:28 PM

Pretty sure that MGMT is one of the best bands. Sure, their usually high off their minds during their shows, but the albums amazing. Spectacular even. If you actually look up the lyrics - it makes more sense, and you can actually appreciate it.

so, they are amazing.
Andrew's really hot.
and that's just how it goes.

ooooooh my god andrew + ben
are so sexy
musical godsssss
<3 them forever

Posted by gabrielleodessa | April 27, 2010 3:58 PM

MGMT are my favorite band. Sure I loved Kids the first time I heard it, but I listened to all of Oracular Spectacular and really fell in love with the band. There lyrics (non hits) are amazing, and there sound is completely unique. And then Congradulations came out, which is also completely amazing in a very different way.

Posted by Ashley | May 2, 2010 1:53 PM

This is the BEST band in the world
and all you haters out there... fuck off. yea.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2010 9:39 PM

to all the doubters and those who outright propose that MGMT can't cut it live, search youtube for "mgmt leeds". see that sea of people unified and enraptured from the first row to the last row? that's what MGMT does. what do you do?

Posted by fausto | August 18, 2010 12:06 AM

For those of you who don't understand the parody within the lyrics for 'Time To Pretend' you are utterly thick in the head.

Posted by victoria | August 18, 2010 2:30 AM

they are all amazing guys!! i spent 3 nights with them in london and my respect level went up SO much more!! Their live shows are so tight now, and when they aren't in front of camera's and having a piece of paper or a cd shoved in their face to sign- they are the sweetest, most normal people ever!
just with lots of drugs, money and alcohol ;-)
