No Age - a week or two ago (NOTGL)
No Age

Saturday night's Liars and No Age show at Warsaw did not disappoint (Feb 9, 2008). No Age opened the show and set the tone. They played a mix of songs from their ep's, Weirdo Rippers and tracks from their forthecoming album on Sub-Pop called Nouns. Jumping off of speakers and playing in the crowd, No Age set the bar high. The place was packed, and when Liars came out, they fed off all the energy in the room. Due to his back injury, Angus remained seated for a lot of the night, but he did occasionally stand, jump, and wave the Polish flag. The crowd was attentive.

At 6-foot-somethingorother, Liars front man Angus Andrew is a magnetic, kind of menacing presence. Even in a raspberry colored suit. While sitting down. [Sound Bites]

The new Liars material rocked live! And luckily (like the rest of the tour up until then), the New York show went off without a hitch. Philadelphia was not as lucky though. Angus declared during their set Saturday night, "We're canceling tomorrow," and then Liars sent out this bulletin on Sunday...

SORRY SORRY SORRY ARE WE
DEAREST PHILLY.
ONE OF US CONTRACTED A GNAR GNAR STOMACH FLU THAT MADE PERFORMING WITHOUT PROJECTILE VOMITING VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. IT REALLY SUX COZ WE'VE BEEN FANTASIZING ABOUT YOUR BROTHERLY LOVE ALL TOUR. WE HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND WE COULDN'T AND WOULDN'T EVER CANCEL A SHOW UNLESS IT WAS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION. PLEASE KNOW THAT THE TICKETS YOU BOUGHT ARE FULLY REFUNDABLE FROM YOUR PLACE OF PURCHASE AND WE'VE ASKED THAT YOU BE GIVEN A KISS AS WELL, FOR THE TROUBLE. THE ONLY OTHER CONSOLATION WE CAN OFFER IS THAT WE'LL BE PLAYING IN DC ON TUESDAY NIGHT, HOPEFULLY RECOVERED, AND WE'D LOVE IT IF SOME OF YOU PHILLIES COULD DRIVE DOWN SO WE CAN MAKE IT UP TO YOU IN PERSON. ONCE AGAIN OUR SINCEREST APOLOGIES AND REGRETS,
WE'RE SORRY PHILLY
LIARS
And No Age sent out this....
*Hey Philly friends, We had to change the venue for the show tonight liars got sick! but we are well!!

8pm $5, QUEEN SHEEBA
4511 Baltimore AVE, West Philleeeeeeeee

come out and hung with us please

At least No Age got to play, and there are no other cancellations.

Liars never had a scheduled show for tonight (Monday Feb 11). That means Angus and whoever is vomiting get two nights to rest before DC and the rest of the tour.

No days off for No Age though - you can catch them again in Brooklyn tonight (Monday), at the new Market Hotel with High Places. See you there.

"GNAR GNAR"??

Sometimes "funny ha ha" cool-guy speak is too much for me to handle.

"Saturday night's Liars and No Age show at Warsaw did not disappoint. . ."

I disagree. I was disappointed because I thought the show was terrible.

Loved the show

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 2:54 PM

why was it terrible, luke?

i thought the show rocked. my only complaint was that they only played for 1 hr 15 min... even after angus announced that they'd be playing a looong time.

and i wish the warsaw would jack their volume up a little.

Wait... you think 1 hour and 15 minutes is short?!?!?! You crazy!!!

Tonight will be AWESOME!!! Skint sounds interesting and cool. High Places hasn't played in NYC in like FOREVER (well forever for them is like a couple months)... and they totally rule. I am excited to see all the bands. Haven't seen No Age or Rings, but am excited about them as well.

TOO LATE FOR ANYONE PLANNING ON GOING TONITE.
I live near there and just walked by on my way home. The line is already about 2 blocks long and i went over to the front and heard the guys who run the place saying they are gonna have to turn people already in line away. Place does not look that big anyway. Sorry but this looks like Kimya Dawson at Sound Fix all over again.

Anon 5:16 Thanks for the tip but why don't I believe you? Hmm...maybe because it's only 5:30pm and the show doesn't even start until 9pm or so?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2008 5:26 PM

yeah dude doors aren't even open til 930 AND the place holds several hundred people.

srry nice try.

funny, Liars played Warsaw in June '06 and barely drew a couple dozen fans. that was a phenomenal show, yet this one was even better.

Posted by pure unevil | February 11, 2008 6:23 PM

^^wrong about the "couple dozen", but yeah, both shows were awesome.

No Age is playing Bowery 5/6.

Disappointed in missing the Liars since I was out-of-town (catching the debut performance of The Night Marchers in San Diego). They have been playing NYC less and less each year. Hopefully they will play here again soon.

What gives folks...nobody has anything positive or negative to say about last night's No Age/High Places show? How was it? Reports please.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2008 10:09 AM

man it's only 1030 and the show didn't end til 2 or later give us a break.

but yeah, high places played new stuff and no age was great and the crowd was rowdy and the space is huge and awesome.
