Robyn @ Highline Ballroom, NYC - pics
Robyn @ Highline Ballroom, NYC - Feb 5, 2008 (Ryan Dombal)

I was going to complain about how short the Hot Chip show was the other day, but I decided to keep it totally positive because that's how I felt when I left (and it wasn't THAT short).
I would try to do the same for the Robyn show which was at the same NYC venue just a few days later, but that would be lying. Robyn's first-ever U.S. show was short! ...but awesome. (It didn't help that I got there 10 minutes late. I was inside in a spot by 9:15. I was back outside on the street by 9:55.)
She played the 2005 blog hit 'Be Mine' twice. The second time was acoustic-like. She also played 'Konichiwa Bitches', 'With Every Heartbeat', 'Jack You Off', 'Be Mine', and her old school jam 'Show me love'. Set list?

Wow she looks like the lost member of New Order timewarped from '83. But I do like her on the Sensual Seduction remix.

show was about 45 minutes, with a 2 song encore. lasted about an hour total. but was amazing. shes so rad.

Hipsters use words like "amazing" and "aaamaaazing" too much.
But yes, this show was a hell of a lot of fun, albeit too short.
The room was also packed & stanky.

"show was about 45 minutes, with a 2 song encore. lasted about an hour total. but was amazing. shes so rad."
I think the show was 45 minutes with the encore.

yeah it was short, but I don't think she couldn't perform any longer in that tempo, Robyn must have been on speed or something.

way short, and she played one song twice, but so good.

people need to keep their shows this short. i don't want to see most bands go on and on for 2 hrs.+ i'm not into robyn but if i was, i'm sure 45 minutes would have been a fantastic length.

@ Anon 1:46. Agreed, I was there and the length was perfect. Any longer and it just starts to lose momentum/get boring, particularly for a standing room show.

she went on at nine almost exactly; the encore ended just short of ten. it didn't feel too terribly short but i would have loved to hear her do some more of her sweet, quiet songs, particularly "robotboy" and "eclipse." but the energy was tremendous, she was adorable, and so obviously genuinely touched by the enthusiasm of the crowd.
the minimalist reworking of "show me love" was really great.
i enjoyed opener drop the lime a lot too, though it was sort of an odd pairing.
here's hoping she does a full u.s. tour when the album (finally!) drops!

Robyn was FIERCE last night! That haircut from 1983 is fierce. Jack U Off is fierce! Robyn is fierce. Love her.

Great show, although I though the two Be Mine's were a little too close together. And man, that place was hot. Get some A/C, people! Really glad to see Robyn finally, though - I thought her one older piece in the main set was crappy compared with her newer stuff. Let's hope she sticks with the new direction!
