Santa's Party House

It was exactly a year ago today that Gothamist wrote....

Andrew W.K. has also been working on his venue at 100 Lafayette, which he's opening with Spencer Sweeney. In 2005 they had a petition going, but we think things are moving forward now. We went to the venue for an art party held by (friends of W.K.) Paper Magazine not too long ago, it was beautiful, spacious and had multi-levels.

When it opens it will certainly be more than just a venue. Seems he made a little announcement to CMJ yesterday about the space, stating, "This is something I always wanted to do, have a space for all types of people to come and be creative, relax, and have their minds blown." While he added that the venue is yet to be named, we think it will be called (or at least at one point was going to be called) Santa's Party House.

Handsome Furs play Santa's Party House on April 5, 2008.

you know, i love that area and any new venue in manhattan is cause for some sort of celebration.

i hope it does well.

though, with all the liquor license stuff, venues closing, and high rental costs, i dont know how these guys are supposed to be any better off than others.

This is fantastic. Long live AWK!

oh man I am gonna party hard!

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2008 10:09 AM

I can't imagine the crowd here being anything less than pretentious, every night. No thanks.

A block away from the old Mehanata. Venues need to look at other parts of Manhattan if they can't afford the rent elsewhere. Why did Mehanata move to Ludlow, the new version sucks!

This venue could be good.

i loveeeeee AWK!! i hope he performs at every show he has there lol...that would kick some major ass. i havent seen the dude live since maybe 2005 or 2006, 2005 sounds more accurate. He definitely parties hard. Corn Mo and Andrew WK should definitely tour together!

AWK is one of the coolest, most genuine people you might ever meet. I hope this works out for him.

holy shit who's this guy talking about Corn Mo? i only saw him a few times with the bindlestiff family circus when they came through athens, ga. i bought his cd. he had a gary busey song and a drum stick on his shoe.

now that i think of it there would probably be no WORSE pairing than corn mo and awk. but at the same time you couldn't do any better!

alright well no one had posted in 6 months so i wanted to do my part.
