Pow!

Maybe Brandon doing a secret Atlas Sound set?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2008 8:42 PM

Dan Deacon's MySpace page lists him as being in Australia tonight so it's not going to be him (unless he missed his flight)...

I bet it is the fire marshalls. That place is a death trap!

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2008 10:10 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2008 11:27 PM

Did VH even do Bear Fight last night? I don't remember hearing it. OCDJ and VH had a few moments of fun but I wasn't blown away by this gig in any respect.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2008 10:38 AM

Hey, dipshit: VH = Van Halen and no one else.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2008 11:15 AM

^^^Thanks fuckwad. So, as I was saying...did VH do Bear Fight last night?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2008 12:03 PM

I dunno, but Van Halen did your mom last night.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2008 12:16 PM

fire trap scary! everywhere is scary! we're all gonna die!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2008 5:58 PM

i like that bowery presents comes onto every dba post and calls it a fire trap.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 1:33 PM

why would Bowery Presents give a fuck about Death by Audio? Paranoid fuckers...

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 1:53 PM

I have been making most of the "fire marshal" posts in various threads over the past few weeks, and can say with 150% certainty that i have no affiliation to bowery, live nation, todd p, or any other show promoter/venue.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:15 PM

2:15, stop lying.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:19 PM

I posted the original death trap posting, and I am not anon 2:15. DBA and Glasslands are scary!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:25 PM

I like it how Todd P claims he is putting on acts who would not otherwise get a gig in a regular venue, like Black Dice. Just look back in the calendar and see how many times Black Dice have played Bowery Presents venues (hint: plenty), or even that other venue. So, it's just not true.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:27 PM

I've seen any bands that Todd books that i've wanted to see at plenty of other venues. Most of them before they ever played a Todd P show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:37 PM

yes, at Knitting Factory, most likely.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:40 PM

todd is cool...

but his day-glo nyu scenester minions...they are the worst...last time i went to a todd p show i felt like i was at an unsupervised middle school birthday party

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:43 PM

AND JUST ONCE maybe a band could play for over 25 minutes? please?

ah fuck it...reasonably long set times are so corporate

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:45 PM

Since when did Todd P. ever promise or guarantee that EVERY band he books will have never played for someone or somewhere else?

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 2:58 PM

I don't think it's as much Todd as it is the clueless press folks that perpetuate the idea that he is such a novelty. They are trying to make him out to be more than he is... in reality, he's just a nice guy who asks bands to play at places that aren't meant for rock shows. He doesn't really even "promote" the shows technically speaking.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 3:03 PM

ok what we leaned: Todd P = Nice guy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 3:46 PM

yeah - black dice only played for like 15 minutes at market hotel - it was ridiculous!

Fuck todd P!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 3:52 PM

blame those where the blame lies- Black Dice

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 3:56 PM

I wish I was there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 4:03 PM

required elements for a proper todd p event

fire-hazard venue
suburban-bred pratt students in salvation army garb
2 hour (at least) delayed start time
horrible sound
20 minute sets
2 hour breaks between bands
beards
manhattan-priced beverages
giant ass hole security personnel fresh out of riker's
folding chairs
dan deacon
next-generation bloggers

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 4:16 PM

The ridiculous thing about this guy who keeps posting all the hate on Todd P-related threads is that he keeps LYING.

If this guy were really a regular show goer and not a rival trying to sway people, then why would he lie to make his point?

for instance,

Black Dice played for around 45 minutes. It wasn't even kinda short. It was totally their normal set length.

Also, all of the bands on Saturday were done playing by 1am, so how could there have been a 2 hour delay in starting and 2 hour set changes between each band?

the sound was really noticeably great. many people agreed, it sounded amazing. the floor shook, in a good way.

like at every Todd P show, you can bring in your own beer. How could the beverages be expensive? no-one would buy them. You're totally full of shit!

there are no bouncers at all. just a team of smart college kids. have you ever even been to a Todd P show?

there are no folding chairs. whatcha talking about dude?

How are Death by Audio and Market Hotel, etc, all fire traps in your estimation, and somehow Cakeshop, Lit, Glasslands, Europa, Knitting Factory, Webster, etc aren't? They all involve minimal stairs and cramped quarters.

Todd P declared the show on Saturday "sold out" earlyish, when the room was a lot less full than I've seen Bowery and Webster and Glasslands get. He even asked over the PA for people to text their friends and warn them that it was sold out before they got on the train. Dude could be ALOT more greedy and he clearly is not.

It seems to my eyes and ears that the haters (and there aren't many of them, but a few are prolific) are of two camps.

The 1st and most annoyingly prolific crew are very obviously industry insider types who are being outdone by Todd P and the underground scene and they are bummed about that. They want to downplay our community and get us all scared to go out to unknown spaces and see unknown bands. They have a vested interest in lying inorder to sway the uninitiated.

The 2nd, and sadder, group are kids who are intimidated by the hipness level at the shows. Don't feel out of your element, dudes! The scene is friendly and not elitist. Just because people are more tuned in than you doesn't mean they'll look down upon you or be snobby. make the scene your own!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 5:07 PM

todd p didn't put on the DBA Saturday show. you guys are confused

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 5:15 PM

it's probably not Bowery who is trying to fuck with all these spaces.

there are people out there who are plenty capable of this kind of pettiness, little clueless promotion companies who don't know how to compete, for instance, midsized clubs, bands who can't get a show and feel embittered...

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 5:26 PM

Todd P had never claimed anywhere that they bands he books can't get a show elsewhere. The bands prefer his shows because the crowds are bigger and the vibes are better, and so's the money.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 5:28 PM

Yeah...it's obvious that there are some people(s) on this site with a vested interest in attempting to smear Todd P. because if they didn't, they wouldn't constantly post with such consistency and vitriol. They would get bored and move on to other much more deserving targets. The guy is just throwing occasional indie shows...big deal...get over it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2008 5:34 PM

Well, that's good to hear.

However, I really don't think jocks should be allowed at these shows. Only smart, arty people. Also, stop talking about video games between the bands, that is so fucking lame dude.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2008 9:01 AM

Forgot to add, Todd P is def better than that Jake guy, the Rocks off Cruise guy. For fucks sakes, tribute bands suck, enough already.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2008 9:02 AM

who's talking about video games between the bands? use your words, lil dude. explain.
