since when did they get this popular?
Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 6:06 PM
dunno when they got this popular (perhaps the winehouse affiliation helped), but they sure deserve it. as ever, an unbelievably funky good show, top to bottom.

They've been a big club draw since the last album, but having music in a Denzel film and the spike they've gotten from all of the Dap-Kings/Amy Winehouse hoopla is what's up. Good for Sharon! She's amazing and the big crowds are well deserved.
Oh...she killed it at the Beacon last night.
Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2008 6:46 PM
killed it indeed! and great pics, whoever took these.

How was Budos Band?
Posted by hipster replacement | February 16, 2008 9:35 PM
Budos Band sounded great... but they were a little annoyed cause nobody was dancing yet.
When Sharon & the Dap-Kings took the stage, everyone was on their feet.

i can't stand people who compare her to winehouse. jones makes winehouse look like a chump. a chump, i tell ya.

What is this "Dap-Kings/Amy Winehouse hoopla"? Have they played together? What's the connection?

Whether they call themselves The Dansettes or not I don't know, but I'm pretty sure Sharon introduced them as The Dansettes.
Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2008 3:24 PM
that girl looks like Beyonce
Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2008 3:25 PM
Sharon introduced us as the Dansettes because usually it's me, Jennie, and Leah from the (now defunct) Dansettes who do the backing vox (and did them on the album). Jennie is now in another band called the Sweet Divines and Leah and I are in a band called Nouvellas. Leah is in Italy DJing this weekend, so she wasn't available for the show so Heather from the Sweet Divines filled in for her. In the future though, it'll be back to me, Leah, and Jennie doing these backing vocals at the live shows.
- Jaime from Nouvellas

that's pretty constructive, Anon 3:17. Seeing as I was on the balcony, and I only heard her introduce them as the Dansettes, I could only assume she was not lying. I was pretty psyched when I heard her introduce them as such, because I thought the Dansettes broke up.
As far as being a dunce, I guess that's your call. At least I'm not posting anonymously, like you... you little weenie.

Hey rocked the shit,
hate to make this point that has been made over and over again but who cares that you give a name to the comments you make. Just because you call yourself "rocked the shit" tells me nothing about you. You do not link to any web page or any info about yourself so you are just as ANON as anyone who posts without giving themselves a name. Calling you a dunce is the same as calling Anon 3:17 a weenie.
Although i do think it needs to be said that seeing as you were in the balcony for this show, maybe you should change your name to "rocked the CHEAP shit"

That's a good one! Get it? 'cause the balcony is where the losers with less money sit, unlike the people who's opinions actually matter. What an asshole.

OOH, someone has got issues.

That coked out scenester in the first picture acted like an ass throughout the night. Hey Sharon, if he was a plant for you to bring up on stage, tell him that he needs to wait in line at the bar like everyone else. He and his bag'o bones companion were laughed at by everyone sitting around them. I'm trying too hard!!!
