Shearwater
Shearwater

I've gone "official" again. The lineup of the first-ever official BrooklynVegan SXSW showcase is... (in no particular order...):

* Shearwater
* Martha Wainwright
* Kaki King
* Jeffrey Lewis & The Jitters
* Deer Tick
* AA Bondy
I couldn't be more excited for this bill! The show will take place the evening of Wednesday, March 12, 2008 @ Club de Ville in Austin, TX. To get in, you either need a SXSW badge, a SXSW wristband, or one of the tickets we'll be selling at the door (more details & set times TBA - I don't even know 100% how it works yet).

More bands playing SXSW are listed HERE.

Seen AA Bondy for a couple of songs. A lot different from Verbena, but really cool.

"To get in, you either need a SXSW badge, a SXSW wristband, "

I heard there were no wristbands this year? I'm going to be in the area but don't want to pay $600...

Anyone know?

Thanks, John

“All my favorite songwriters are American – Jad Fair, Jonathan Richman and Jeffrey Lewis.” -Eddie Argos/Art Brut

“The best lyricist working in the US today.” -Jarvis Cocker/Pulp

“A more polished effort from the Big Apple’s best-kept secret. NYC’s never exactly lacked eccentric singer-songwriters, but all, from Lou Reed up to Adam Green, would struggle to out-boho Jeffrey Lewis… The likes of “Time Machine” exhibit Velvets-style fuzz, while the speedfreak ramblings of “Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror” show just what makes this comic-book obsessive so unique… Stick with it young fellow – we’re with you all the way.”

what time does daft punk play? did you pay as much as labels have to pay to put on showcases?

Bondy's brilliant. Been listening to the record since it came out, and it only gets better. And he was great at the Mercury in December.

Anybody see him last week with the Felice Brothers? Do tell...

"Ever meet someone with a voice that instantly triggers some uncanny primal rage buried in your DNA? Like, the person speaks and suddenly you’re fighting an urge to grab both sides of that head and twist, twist, twist until the neck snaps and blood pours out the eye sockets? Jeffrey Lewis is that voice. Forget the fact that these are acoustic folk covers of CRASS songs (and yes, that’s exactly as nauseating as you are now imagining it to be), it’s the actual voice—a nasally, droning whine like a dull knife in the brain—that begs me to destroy it as a crime against nature that can’t bear its own existence. Like animals must sometimes cull their defective offspring, or like Sigourney Weaver’s clone in the fourth Aliens movie, I realize that I must put Jeffrey Lewis out of his misery… and ours. This abomination cannot stand." - Vice

just because you never heard of the bands does not make it a terrible lineup. You never heard of your favorite bands until you heard of them, duh?
